Great Place for a authentic roadhouse experience, especially on a weekend night, for late night music and dancing.
Good thing we had a designated driver....we hit this place after watching the LSU game at another bar, and decided to keep on rolling....maybe that was a bad idea (judging from my headache the next morning!) but we had a great time, met a few nice girls, danced to the band, and had a few more drinks. Â
Even got to see a MMA brawl on the dance floor...in true Roadhouse tradition...
Very diverse crowd, inexpensive drinks, and a great band....what else would you want?
Perfect, old school fun and great authentic atmosphere...
Ruby's is a great divey Juke Joint.
I have driven past this bar many times, but never went in. From the outside it looks like a run down shack, and there is almost always a Harley parked out front.
Because it looked like a rough place, I made sure to park my car close to the exit facing the street in case I was forced to reenact Charlie Daniels Uneasy Rider and make a quick exit. Fortunately, I ended up loving the place.
The interior closely resembles the exterior. There were old wood floors, a large stage, a dance floor and a cool outside patio area. The bar was large with an ancient metal surface which was banged up and just added to the ambiance.
We arrived before the band was set to play so we were able to sit at the bar and drink while the band performed their sound check. Once they started playing conversation was nearly impossible so we sat back and enjoyed the show. I can't remember the name of the band, but it was rock, and they were pretty good. I would love to come back and see more bands because this really is a great venue.
Even though it is a serious dive, it had a great beer selection. I attribute this to the location as nearly every dive I have been to on the Northshore has great beer. It was a little surreal to be drinking Grolsch while sitting in a dive, but I really liked it.
The crowd was diverse. There were bikers, professional drunks, locals and transplants. Everyone kept to themselves and seemed friendly. The staff were also friendly and prompt with drink orders.
I really liked this bar and hope to spend many more nights inside.
You don't go to Ruby's, you absorb it. It is a true American Roadhouse, I've played here and have been a loyal patron for too many years ;-). It just seeps soul and atmosphere. Â You must catch Ruby's on a Friday or Saturday night to really get the full effect. It was rated as one of the 10 best American Roadhouses. Enough said.
Review Source:Its Rubys. What else can I say. Been coming since here since I could get into bars. (20 yrs now...where has the time gone?) Â Smoky but always a good crowd mixed with decent live music. Lotsa good times and awesome memories, including the Saturday night (just before 8/29/05)Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown came there to wish my husband a happy birthday and we all realized that Katrina was coming and she was a Cat 5....and it looked like we were all staying to see what she was gonna do to Mandeville. The band stopped and all eyes went to the tv, Ive never seen Rubys so quiet. Im glad Katrina left it alone. Many more good times to be had. If you happen to be passing thru Mandeville, make sure you visit on a Fri or Sat night.
