This is one of those random locations that you do not plan to go to unless someone tells you about it, which is how I hearda bout this bar. Â The night I went with friends(which was a Friday night), the place was empty so we had the entire place to ourselves. Â The bartender was very nice, made strong drinks, and the drink prices were very reasonable. Â Maybe it was cause we had the place to ourselves, but it's pretty big. Â It has entertainment like shuffleboard, pinball, two pool tables, and a few televisions to watch sports. Â I really enjoyed it, but the only issue I had was that ithe bar looked a bit run down and the area around the place to park was kinda sketchy. Â This is a great place for cheap drinks in the Peninsula area if you have no where else to go.
Review Source:Smallish bar, but a large space. Â Plenty of TVs, pool tables, shuffle board and pinball machines. Â Yes it's a pretty cheesy place, and not the usual destination unless maybe you're staying at the Hillsdale Inn.... BUT it's lotsa fun all the same! Â I can guarantee you meet some characters and have some classic conversations. Â
They have reasonable prices and food as well. Â See Robert.
This place has pretty much everything I want in a bar: it's in walking distance of my house, there's shuffleboard, pool, darts, pinball, air hockey, a digital jukebox, and even foosball. Â Drinks were cheap, the bartender was friendly and nice. Â It felt like I stepped into a time machine and went back in time in there, but it was all part of the charm.
Review Source:This place seemed super sketch when I first found it down the street from our house but it has turned you to be  a gem of a dive bar in the neighborhood.  Nestled inside the Hillsdale Inn, Ryan's Sports Bar is a total dive that is 5 times bigger than it looks from the outside. There is shuffle board, pool tables, video games, Tv's for the games and super cheap drinks.  All on par with a good  Dive bar.  If you live near the village this is one of a few great dive bars you can not go wrong with.
Also to add a bit of extra they serve food until 10 and on the weekends you can catch the taco truck down the street until 9. Â Well places Ryan's Sports Bar.
My thoughts can best be summed up by the panicked submarine captain...DIVE, DIVE, DIVE!
Yeah so just me my buddy and about 3 regulars holding it down on a Saturday night.
Bonuses: Strong ass drinks, stray black kitten running around lobby, & golden tee video game.
Minuses: kind of  felt like drinking at an abandoned resort, you know like The Shining, only the Hillsdale Inn is no Overlook Hotel.
Good place to get plastered leave your car and walk home.
Why does this place not have more reviews?! I'll admit, this place is in a very odd location. It's right under/next (?) to a motel and it is kind of hard to find.
However, the drinks are cheap and stiff. The have darts, shuffle board, pool, arcades ANDDD they are kept in very good shape. Last couple times I've been here it's been a little dead, but I always have fun with my friends talking to the bartenders and the other customers.
The other night Joan made the BEST DRINK EVER, and it was on the house. If you like hot chocolate and alcohol, ask her to make a "Heaven". It's her special concoction. It's Christmas in your tummy.
I don't know where the people were that wrote the prior reviews but the only thing they got right was DIVE! The place was dead ,no happy hour discounts ,no happy hour food. The service was standard but the filth overwhelmed any chance for a relaxed time. Take your money someplace else to avoid bad memories!
Review Source:We went to Ryan's Sports Bar last night after dinner with friends who live in San Mateo. Ryan's provided everything we were looking for plus more at major-value prices! Note: this is a hotel bar but you would barely know it once you are inside. The hotel seems pretty small and the bar is pretty huge!
- The whole bar was decked out in fun (yet tacky!) Halloween decorations
- The bartender was super nice and loved hearing our suggestions about shopping at H & M and Forever 21 for his daughter who is about to turn 13
- We enjoyed recreational activities: shuffleboard, darts, and pinball
- The prices really could not be beat! Check this out:
- (2) Budlight's + (1) Electric Iced Tea in pint glass + (1) Long Island in pint glass= $18
- (2) (ordered extra extra strong this time though they were plenty strong the first time!) Electric Iced Tea's in pint glasses + pastrami sandwich + onion rings = $14.57
Wow! The bar is open until 2 am and they have even better pricing on drinks during professional football games. You can also take your cocktails out by the (not-so-nice) hotel pool if you are looking for some fresh air :)
This is a funky place! Â Me likey a hard-to-find divebar with character... and cheap $2 happy hour bud lights!
Don't go here hoping for some fancy, highfalutin' swanky bar with pretty girls and posh interior. Â This place is a blast from the past-- cavernous, and adjoining the pool area of an equally divey $60 a night motel. Â I love it!
Like many good dive bars, this place has the air of maybe a place that might not be there too much longer. Â With the relentless push of modernism-- and bay area real estate prices, this is surely not a goldmine of a business for the owner. Â But it is a goldmine for the divebar enthusiast.
