This is the 2nd dinner that my coworker and I had during Spokane's Restaurant Week. Again this was an $18 prix fixe meal with 3 courses, plus this restaurant also threw in a free glass of wine (with a generous pour). I had the caesar salad, which was pretty yummy with homemade croutons. I also tried the baby back  ribs with cole slaw and substituted the chesy grits for baked beans. The ribs themselves were tender but I was a little unhappy that they didn't put the bbq sauce on the ribs themselves, and didn't actually like the sauce they provided. It was definitely too ketchup-y. The grits were good though. For our last course we had creme brulee which was pretty delicious. Overall this was a good meal but there was definite room for improvement with their BBQ sauce, which in many ways is just as important to me as the tenderness of the meat when I'm eating ribs!
Review Source:Great, friendly, attentive service. Ate in dining room but the bar was certainly happening. The ribs were a little dry and the barbecue sauce was a bit sweet. The beans were too sweet and the coleslaw was soggy. The wine was perfect. Would probably choose a different restaurant in the Davenport next time.
Review Source:Parking is a mess and if you are going for dinner (as opposed to the bar) it can get very loud. That said, the food was good, though I was frustrated to see that many of the dishes friends recommended to me were fish/shellfish (to which I have an allergy). Â The best part of my visit was the 3 course special menu. I had the short ribs, which were delicious. I also appreciate the small desserts, which are enough to have something sweet but not so much that one feels overfull.
Review Source:Fail on so many levels.
The server, Ashlee- while sweet- was ridiculously slow and unattentive. It took 5 mins for to her to even say "hello," and over 10 mins for her to take our order, and the place wasn't even full. I had to keep grabbing the bus boy to help us.
The food was awful! I ordered the baby back ribs, and while I truly understand that a dry rub is not a sauce...the meat was sooooo overcooked and dry like cardboard  that I couldn't even swallow it. The side of BBQ sauce was just a semi-spicy version of ketchup with vinegar. I've never really done this before, but I sent the meal back to the kitchen and replaced it with mushroom flatbread. It was OK: flatbread with mushrooms, melted cheese and truffle oil. Fairly uninspired and besides the truffle oil it was very bland.
My husband had the short ribs, which had a bit more flavor, but even with all The fat he said it was really dry and bland.
We are in this hotel for a week, but since our meal last night I am making a point to brave the freezing cold and go elsewhere for my meals. It's really that bad.
Shame on you Davenport! This is supposed to be a classy establishment.
To me, breakfast is supposed to be the best deal of the day. The $15 Eggs Benedict ($22 with salmon) makes Sunday Brunch at the Safari Room a big "pass" for me. Prices improved a bit on Monday, and I tried the Dungeness crab omelette ($15). The hash browns were forgettably average, but I have to admit, it was one of the best omelettes that I've ever had. It was literally stuffed with nice crab, avocados and other goodness. Still, with my wife's flatbread, a kid's meal and three juices, our bill was $44, which definitely stings for breakfast. We tried the nearby Satellite Diner one morning, but it's too bad that there aren't more walkable breakfast choices.
However, the deals get better as the day goes on. I learned that Spokane is not necessarily a cheap town in which to eat, so the choice of six lunch entrees for $6 is a nice deal. But it gets even better for dinner: there are a handful of $18 prix fixe three-course dinners that are an outright bargain!
My wife and I went for lunch, expecting pricey, but good, food. Â The prices were very (almost disturbingly) reasonable, the service was good, if a little slow (we seemed to be seated quite some way from the kitchen), and the food wasn't good at all. Â The dish I ordered doesn't seem to be on the menu any more, and was the better of the two. Â My wife ordered macaroni & cheese, and it might have been the most pathetic example of that dish that I've ever witnessed. Â Macaroni & cheese is supposed to have some cheese in it, right? Â It should have been called "tepid noodles & bread crumbs with a hint of cheese flavoring." Â
The Davenport Hotel is one of the coolest places in town, and the Worthys did some amazing things to make the place what it is. Â I would think that the restaurants associated with the hotel would be held to a very high standard. Â Such is not apparently the case.
what a deal, what a deal, what a mighty good deal....
the staff here are amazing, the food and drinks both amazing but the happy hour is the MONEY, baby.
Living in Seattle, I don't get over to Spokane very often anymore, but this place easily places itself well above 'good for Spokane' and is just downright good.
Even if you're not staying in the hotel, make your way over for the best service, great food and drinks and amazing happy hour deals.
I love the happy hour at Safari Room. Â The discounted flat breads are amazing, the spicy shrimp flatbread is my favorite by far. Â I had the Crab Louis Salad for $22.00 and it had a good amount of crab meat and the salad was proportioned nicely. Â The service was good as they were extremely busy, but the server checked in with us several times. Â i would recommend dining here!
Review Source:I've stayed at the Tower a couple of times, but this was my first time actually eating here. I wish I had taken advantage of their lunch and happy hour specials. Â The arugula pear flatbread looked so good...guess I'll save that for my next stay!
Anyway, I had breakfast 2 days in a row. The first day I had the breakfast flatbread which was huge! It was hashbrowns on top of the bread with scrambled eggs and veggies. Â (you could get meat in it also, but I didn't). Â I couldn't even make my way halfway though it it was so big! Â It really should be split between two people. Â
The second day I had the french toast which isn't like a typical french toast with big fluffy bread. Â Its a sliced french baguette with apple compote with raisons and currants. Â I don't have a sweet tooth, so I only had a bite of the apple compote and left the powered sugar off. Â Hot melted butter on that french bread...ahh, I could have that every day!
Now, other than the breakfast, I took advantage of the bar. Â The boyfriend and I enjoyed a couple Mac and Jacks and Manny's Pale Ales over the course of a couple days. :) Â
Cool place in a cool hotel. Â Can't wait for my next stay at the Tower!
Not only is this place in one of the most beautiful hotels in the world - The Davenport Hotel Tower - but their happy hour is daily and all drinks are 5 dollars. Â You're able to choose top shelf liquor and drinks are doubles. Â Beer mug is huge! Â They also have certain appetizers half price - which are delicious. Â Great ambiance and has an African safari type theme. Â Just say you're eating and you get free valet parking. Â One of my favorite places to go. Â
Also, the Davenport Hotel - Main Hotel - has the #1 rated brunch in Washington.
Easy to say right now- Best Happy Hour in Spokane. 4-6pm Simply said - half off all your drinks, top shelf call or even a nice pricey glass of wine. Â What a lot of people forget is beyond their half dozen or so of flat breads, which they do very well, they also have an early bird dinner, 3 course for $15. My fave is the grilled salmon or the short ribs.
The bartenders and wait staff are extremely polite and efficient. Â Only bad part is, the secret is out and it's hard to get a couple seats in the bar sometimes.
I'm staying at the Davenport hotel. Â And, I thought I would check out this well trafficked spot. Â I like the interior. Â This hotel is owned by the historic Davenport across the street. Â And, in my opinion, they've done a great job in carrying over that early 1900's feel to this hotel in an, obviously, more modern decor.
With that being said, the service is a little brusque. Â At a hotel of this caliber, I just expect a little more personalized service. Â The bartender was competent and busy. Â But, I had to ask for a happy hour menu and there was very little guidance. Â
The flat bread (with arugula, Gorgonzola, apples and honey) was tasty. Â The bread itself...bland and not hot. Â I expected the flat bread to be hot and the toppings to have a contrast of temperature...resulting in a wilting of the arugula, softness of cheese and a crisp hot crust...not the case I'm afraid. Â
After my beer and this adequate appie...I headed down the street.
I guess I'm in the minority, but I just don't get it. Your eating in a hotel lobby atmosphere, paying hotel room prices, and the food is only "just good", nothing fabulous. I have had both lunches and breakfast at Safari Room. Breakfast was a  typical hotel meal: 2 eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns for $13.50. It was ok, but knowing that I can drive north 5 minutes and hit the Kalico Kitchen, spend less, get WAY more, it's just not worth it.
However, the Cougar Gold Cheese Flatbread for lunch is awesome.
I would recommend walking across the street to the Davenport and eating in the Peacock Lounge. The menu is similar, and it has great ambiance.
Cleanliness: When i sat down at the bar there were crumbs all over the place, but after that was cleaned up the place seemed nice.
Hotties: Hoopfest time, so definitely alot of hotties filling this place up.
Amenities: T.V., Music, Nice cushy leather chairs and booths
Meal: Chicken wings and some beers/ shots. I asked for extra ranch and it seems like whenever i ask for extra ranch i get none. Its like the waitress or waiter thinks im joking. Well im NOT, so give me my ranch!...thank you :o)
Price: Chicken wings i think 7 bucks, not to bad
Service: fair and quick besides the no ranch
Decor: fancy
Dress code: This place is in the Davenport hotel tower so being its a fancy hotel i'd say wear some type of colar or level above tshirt.
On a whim, my wife setup reservations for a nice dinner out. The only dim point in the evening was the parking. We happened to pick the same night as a large Christmas party happening at the Davenport hotel across the street, so parking was difficult to find. We ended up parking in the lot just up the street from Churchill's, and walking a couple of blocks.
Food was great, and very reasonably priced. Our waiter was very attentive, and we really enjoyed the experience. I don't remember what we had, but I do remember that we commented we would be coming back.
They have a nice sized menu; not too big, but enough selections that you don't feel as if you only have a couple options.  The drink menu is outstanding. The food was very good and the service is pretty good.  Our server seemed a little pretentious, but we didn't let that bother us.  The  noise level is the only thing that put a damper on the evening.  We were out on date night and it was hard to hold a conversation over the noise. It won't deter us from going back, but if we want a quiet dinner for two we will probably pick someplace else.
Review Source:Dinner here was pretty good. Â First impression: the decor is fantastic! Â Iff you love jungles, animals, or cheetah print, this is the place for you. Â The food was less impressive. Â Got the 3 course for $15 deal. Â The salad and dessert were just fine. Â The gumbo was pretty darned good, though I heard from my dining companions that other dishes weren't so great (like the lemon-pepper chicken) and some of the side dishes were out (cheesy grits) and the server didn't tell us they would be subbing other dishes. Â The Cougar Gold cheesy dip appetizer is so good! Â Totally worth it. Â The drinks there were really good, though a touch pricey. Â As for the service, the servers were all very, very young and seemed very inexperienced. Â It would probably be worth it for the hotel to hire some more experienced servers who can teach the younger ones how to be great in the restaurant industry. Â All in all, not bad and yes, I will go back.
Review Source:Two words: Â HAPPY HOUR. Â An unbelievable deal for HH where all beers and flat breads are half price 4 to 6 pm. Â A group of co-workers met up and shared flatbreads and ordered up a ton of drinks! Â All varieties of the flatbread have crispy, thin crusts and just enough toppings for a light flavor profile. Â I noticed that folks around us are having the $15 dinner special where you get an app, a main entree and mini dessert. Â Great place to hang for drinks in downtown at the Davenport Tower. Â My beer only cost me $1.63 each! Â =D
Review Source:Love the safari room! Their cocktails are pricey, but so worth it! Quick tip, hit this place for happy hour, awesome drink specials and half off their yummy flat bread! They also have a large private room you can reserve for a birthday, bridal shower or big dinner! The service is always awesome. You can't go wrong with this place!
Review Source:$5.00 lunch specials, great tasting food with friendly sit down service makes it about the best deal in town.
But if you're not staying at the hotel and you are wearing anything less than business attire the the hostess will snub you off like dirty commoners. Not the best first impression.
I liked the food here so much, I ate dinner three times over the week. Â I had the salmon, pork ribs, and ground steak. Â My coworkers liked the salmon the best. Â But, I think I like the ground steak the best. Â Service was amazing with our waitress, Jennifer!! Â Jennifer would constantly come by and make sure our water glasses were filled and that our cocktails were fresh. Â She is one of the most attentive servers I've had!!
Review Source:We knew we were going to have lunch at the Davenport, it was just a matter of where. Â
Dining companion #1: Â "Where do you guys want to have lunch?"
Dining companion #2: Â "The Safari Room has leopard print? Done deal."
The Safari Room it was. Â I have to say, the decor was the classiest animal print could be mixed with the atmosphere at the Davenport. Â Menu was short and very American.
I had the shrimp in a spicy aioli and the mushroom, truffle oil, and cheese flatbread. Â The shrimp is basically walnut shrimp but with a different mayo seasoning. Â Flat bread was decent.
Your basic American food but a notch better. Â The meal was expensive for lunch and for Spokane standards.
We parked on the street, metered, max 2 hours. Â Note: this place is in the new addition to the Davenport, so you have to walk across the street to go here.
Best happy hour in Spokane. Â I love the atmosphere here, it is really modern and sophisticated for the area. The whole restaurant is decorated Safari theme, hence the name of the restaurant. There are fake animal heads mounted on the walls.
Enough about the decor...the food here is superb! Order every flatbread, and the spicy shrimp, from the apps menu. I haven't tried any of the other entrées because the flatbreads here are so good. Great place to order a couple and share amongst friends. Oh, and wait! The desserts are all served in shot glasses, each $2! They should really decide to serve them in larger glasses because they are very very good...no sharing of these!
This rating is based entirely on the happy hour available from 4-6PM in the bar. Â It's AMAZING! Â I've been three times and each time the drinks are strong and the food is delicious. Â All the cocktails (including specialty drinks) are $5. Â The drink menu is huge and there is something to suit everyone's taste. Â The flatbreads are half price which makes them $5. Â They are pretty large and comfortably feed one person. Â The selection is huge and there are about 9 to choose from. Â Share a couple with friends to get some variety.
The one drawback is that it is super slow to pay the check. Â The waitstaff is extremely attentive until about 6:30PM when the dining room starts to fill up. Â The staff starts waiting on dinner tables and never comes back to collect the check. Â Be sure to request your bill about 20 minutes before you want to leave!
Everything BESIDES the service was great here! The food was amazing and for a good price considering it's a hotel restaurant. And the atmosphere was great. I loved it!
I don't know if it's an all time thing, but they have this REALLY AWESOME deal! It's a three-course meal for only $15.00. So you get a choice of either a garden salad served with a balsamic vinaigrette or a Caesar salad. And then there are . . . I'd say 6 or more entrees to choose from. Plus a dessert! All for $15. I got this deal with the baby back rib entree. OMG! To die. It's nice because they put the BBQ sauce on the side instead of directly on the ribs, which makes for a much more clean rib-eating experience. Haha.
I also tried their fries, which are really good. Just really skinny and tiny. Which means you probably eat a LOT more than you usually would. Their croutons on their salads are HUGE! They were a mouthful for me! The desserts were awesome. I only had the cheesecake although our server brought everything out (for the shit service). The cheesecake was so good. My mouth is starting to water just thinking about it.
Our server was nice . . . But she was very slow & seemed more interested in playing a game of grab-ass with her boyfriend than serving us. Plus, she didn't even bring out the Pepsi that Ashley ordered until the 3rd time asking her. She rarely checked on us. And thus we got no water refills until we were done with our meals!
If the service had been just a tad bit better - okay who am I kidding? If of had been a LOT better, I'd definitely give this place 5-stars.
Overall, I do recommend this place. The food and atmosphere is amazing.
I love this place when they are having a deal. The one silver lining of the recession is the current 50% off deal at the Safari Room. They also have deals from 4-6 p.m. and weekly specials. I would hesitate to pay full price here.
My favorites - the flat breaks, cougar gold cheese dip, rib eye, caesar salad, lemon basil chicken salad, and mini-desserts. Was not a big fan of the salmon - something about the beets did not smell right. Martinis - pomegranate and blue hawaiian are both fantastic and are very strong!
The ambiance is pretty cool - animal prints, large stuffed animals. Some say it is cheesey, but I think it is quite neat.
The service is a little spotty, but overall good.
Buy $10 worth of food/drink at the Safari room, and valet is free!
Excellent food and drinks. I love the atmosphere and it is so modern and clean for Spokane standards. Also, for two whole months this summer they are offering 1/2 the entire dinner menu from 6pm till close...how can you argue with that?
Their Southern Comfort chicken is so wonderful and delicious. The sauce is delicate and complements their flavorful mashed potatos and asparagus nicely. I would also recommend their BBQ ribs and all of their flat breads.
Great date night place or place to go with friends on a budget...at least for now.
