Didn't really know what to expect based on the reviews but it turned out to be okay... The ambient is old-stylish but friendly, restrooms are clean. With every entree come the soup and salad from the bar. The "almost famous (beef) vegetable soup" was really good - very lightly salted but very flavorful. In contrary to other reviews, the salad bar did not impress me at all. Not by variety nor by flavor. The sirloin steak was okay but the baked sweet potato seemed a bit beaten up. Too bad we didn't have room for dessert because the selection was tempting - homemade peanut butter pie, pumpkin cheesecake, Kentucky silk pie (or sth like that)....

Not quite the steakhouse you think of when you think of steak. More of a family restaurant that focuses on steaks. Overall the experience was good but I've had better steaks at home.

We decided to stay in Cave City after a trip to Mammoth Cave. We didn't really know what to expect, but I think we would have made the drive to Bowling Green if we did. Cave City is kind of rough. The only thing it has to offer are a dozen or so run down tourist traps.  Starving after making the drive from STL and seeing the cave with our 3 year old, we checked into the hotel and asked about a good place to eat in the area.  The girl at the front desk really didn't have any recommendations, so we went to yelp and google.  This is what we settled on.  We were the only people in the restaurant the entire time we ate.  (We got there around 8pm on a Wednesday).  Niether my husband nor I could bring ourselves to attempt a steak, so I just had the soup and salad bar and he got a burger with the salad bar.  Everything on the salad bar was pretty basic; iceberg lettuce, one type of cheese, rach dressing, etc.  The tomatoes looked pretty gross.  (See through tomatoes should never make it on any plate in any restaurant) Regardless, it was a fine enough salad. The soup was ok.  My husband's burger was pretty good, but a little small and the fries were frozen crinkle cut, not steak fries.  Service was ok, our server was sweet.  Check came up to about 25 dollars with our two iced teas, a little high for what we had.
To sum it up, don't stay in Cave City. But if you must and you don't want fast food, this seems to be the only decent place to go.

While my hubby and i were camping at mammoth cave we decided on a nice dinner out, but had no idea where to go! We drove to cave city and asked a guy at the gas station what he would recommend. He suggested Sahara. So i hopped on yelp to see if there were any previous reviews! The salad bar hooked me. YUM. but the reviewers were right. The salad bar was oh so yummy but the dinner was not. I got the blackened salmon and my hubby got the chicken teriyaki. My salmon was SO SALTY! I came out almost looking like a patty. It was really weird. His chicken was moist but weird tasting.
I also read from other reviewers that the salad bar that comes with the entree is one trip only. NOT TRUE!!! it is unlimited times. which made up for the disappointing dinner. Also the "almost famous" vegtable soup has beef in it so I guess it needs to be renamed " almost vegtable soup" but it was still good!

Sahara was a tale of two courses. The first course was a fantastic salad bar (how do you mess up a salad bar) with rare ingredients that I cannot even identify. I enjoyed the salad very much. The dressing ladles were mis-labeled which made things a little interesting, but also fun.

The main course is where things went downhill. I ordered the fried catfish, which was served on a bed of lettuce. It was just OK. I also tried the chicken fingers, which were most likely deep fried rubber chickens.

The prices were fair and the service was good.

Went here late on a Thursday and wanted to try something local near Mammoth Cave where we were visiting. There were still a good amount of people inside, so we figured it must be ok. I think all of them were locals.  The entrees come with a trip to the salad bar, which was definitely the highlight of my meal and the only reason it gets 3 stars. I actually thought the salad bar was great- they had a huge variety of vegetables and salads, including more unusual items. The potato salad was delicious although I saw the Sams Club ish jar it came from.  Their homemade veggie soup was also great and the rolls too.

I asked the server for her recommendation between chicken tenders and chopped steak dinner and she recommended the chicken so I went with that.  It was probably one of the worst entrees I have ever received at a restaurant and McDonald's Chicken Selects would have been better, but I enjoyed the time there. The chicken fingers were clearly from a frozen package and the breading was tough. I had ordered mushrooms and onions on the side, thinking it was going to be sauteed fresh veggies, and as it turns out, was canned mushrooms soaked in butter.  Tasted like chemicals.  My boyfriend got the catfish which was good.

I thought the prices were good, especialy compared to what we are used to in Chicago.  The staff was friendly and it's an OK place to go, especially after a long day. I would try other places if in the area again, or just go for the salad bar.

Barely passable steak house, I'll never return to. We were there on a mini vacation to Mamoth Cave and wanted to try the local fair. DON'T DO IT! Stick with Cracker Barrel and be pleasantly unsurprised.

The place was busy on a Saturday night (not unusual one would think) It took us 2 hours to get our steaks! and my baked potato still wasn't ready so we had to wait on that. They thinned down the blue cheese dressing (shame on them) The pecan pie looked & tasted like it was purchased frozen from IGA.

Only reason why it gets 2 stars is the steak was actually good.

I agree with John here. Tourist prices. Evidently prime rib was the best on the menu because that's what we had! Pretty good I thought. It was about the best thing we saw around. As hungry as we were at that time, saltines would have probably sufficed. I would eat there again if back in the area.

This review is really 3.5 starts, but I can't do a half star. This is definitely a local stake house so if you are expecting Smith and Wollinsky or Morton's; go somewhere else. If you are looking for a decent steak at tourist (high) prices, this is the place to go.
My wife and I went there after a tiriing day at Mammoth Cave and both had the prime rib which comes with one free trip to the salad bar. After a day of camp food, any fresh veggies were a gift from above. Additionally, their beef vegetable soup was almost as good as homemade. The steaks were decent, but nothing to write home about.
