The Bar: The outside looks very divey and the inside, just as good. As my friends and I were looking for a bar to sing karaoke at, this one came to mind. We first checked it out Wednesday, however karaoke is only on weekends. We stayed a bit, caught a buzz, headed home, only to return Friday night with a larger crowd of friends.
Walking in to this establishment, we were immediately noticed by the locals for being new. I wasted no time heading straight to the bar, where a rather tall, bald, gray-bearded, intimidating bartender stands. I was quick on the draw, with I.D., credit card, and business card in hand. I gave him the normal speech of what we do, and he was totally cool with us....from that point on, the rest of the night was pretty much a blur.
The Crowd: My first encounter with the crowd was a gentleman with more tattoos showing than skin, infact the only skin not tatooed was between his forehead and chin. He says to me, "you're DiveBar Culture, I found your business card in the bathroom, I used it as a crutch." Hey man, use it for whatever, at least you remembered us. Moving on, the 2nd encounter, an older gentleman, who could not wait to tell me of every single dive bar in Sac County, as to remain polite, I listed as he rapped of roughly 50, nice guy too. As for the rest of the crowd, well, they came with me.
Service: 1 bartender on, and us with a crowd of 10, it took a minute to get served, but once the 1st round came, the beers stayed full the whole night.
Prices: Half pitchers $5.00, double shots of Fireball $4.50. Pints of PBR $2.50.
Entertainment: 1 pool table, TouchTunes jukebox, Karaoke on weekends. 1 electronic dartboard.
Restroom: Not too shabby, I expected worse, but to my surprise, it was very clean, and smelled great.
Closing statement: We had a grand time here. Singing karaoke wasted always makes for hilarious entertainment. I will certainly come back to this spot for more drunken karaoke nights. If you're in the area, come on by for a beer. You won't be disappointed.

Picture this...Christmas eve and your spouse is out of town on business until the first of the year.  You are also new to this town and your entire family is in Southern California.

    What do you do?

    Get drunk, I say!

My friend Gen and I went down to the San Juan Club because we really didnt have anything better to do.  I had a few beers and chit chatted with a few of the regulars.  When I was nicely buzzed, I walked across the street for some decent chinese food.

Good prices on tapped beer.  Only down side is there is 10 dollar minimum for credit cards.  Thats 4 pints!  Wait...Heck ya!  That's 4 pints!!!!

Not a complaint one! The bartender remembered us from last year during one of our jaunts, and the fact that she owed us a couple drinks and made good on her promise!

Great little dive for a stop on the bike, small with a couple of pool tables, the standard TV's, not too many, not too few..crowd was live and let live..drinks were well poured, and in highball glasses..I love high ball glasses..

Had a small area set up in the corner for bands, karaoke, etc..we might just have to check them out when the moon is out as well..

I always wondered about the San Juan Club as a teenager running amok in Fair Oaks. There was always music and laughter emminating from the open front door.

We  were driving down San Juan Avenue after dinner at Big Joe's BBQ when the gigantic sign with the martini glass beckoned. We decided to check out the San Juan Club. There were a few folks smoking outside the bar as we entered. They had some cool tunes on the jukey. We bellied up to the crowded long bar and ordered a small pitcher of Bud. The bartendress had long flowing brown hair, tight jeans and a friendly smile.

Laura B and I found a table in the corner to share a pitcher and watch the San Juan Club antics. The wall was decorated with gobs of movie memorablia. From Annie Hall to the Cuckoo's Nest. The bar definately had some movie characters of its own. A couple of regulars were playing pool. The woman resembled Joan Jett without the makeup. Tight jeans and a tank top. I think all the women in the bar werte sporting tight jeans. Her pool playing partner had a shaved head and lots of energy. Very friendly and talkative.

We noticed the San Juan Club had karaoke on Saturday night. It was written on a paper plate tacked up on the wall behind the bar. The karaoke kicked off at nine. The karaoke hostess has been hosting for 16 years at the San Juan Club. She kicked it all off...she had a sweet voice. A few of the regulars belted out some tunes...including the bartendress.

She sang and mixed drinks all at the same time. A multi-tasker. We odered a round of Widmer Hefe and checked out the karaoke books. Although, the KJ said she had almost everything on her laptop. After "Tank" sang some Louis Armstrong my wife and I sang a round of tunes. Dylan, Cake, The Pretenders and Fleetwood Mac. Dive bar karaoke...where we've sang alongside a guy named Tecate, Tater, and now Tank. For some reason, dive bar karaoke attracts guys who's nicknames start with a T.

If you're ever in the 95628 and you're looking for a fun friendly bar...check out the San Juan Club. Tell 'em Tank sent you.
