My friends and I were looking for some good breakfast and we ended up here. The waitress was very friendly. The place was very quaint. The food was delicious! I had french toast with scrambled eggs and some wheat toast. Everything was good. My friends loved the food. The waitress even gave me a cup of coffee to go! I would definitely recommend this place.
Review Source:Back in August I was looking for another breakfast option so, From the Old Days in Ortley Beach there used to be a Sand Dollar Pancake house next door to the Starlight hotel years ago that was a hot spot after the Surf club or any club back in the 80's. Â Low and behold there is Marie owner of the old place as after a few years Hiatus they reopened up the road from the original location.
Place is very small and crowded almost every day but this off season time allowed us to sit quickly. Coffee was fresh and hot & it's your typical small café diner type place.  Eggs & Omelets of all kinds with some great pancake & French toast concoctions that you will not find anywhere else.  The Cinnamon crusted pancakes were a real winner today and you can' t go wrong with eggs but the breakfast potatoes were so dam good it made simple egg dish even better.
Always a great location back in the 80's and 90's and it hasn't changed much just good solid food from family that does it right. Â Were giving it 5 Stars remember not as a fine dining establishment but 5 stars for what it does best!!!!
We own a house at Ortley and finally decided to try the
Sand dollar pancake house. Â The food was delicious and our server was
Delightful. Â The older hostess woman in the front seating everyone was
Downright nasty! Â I believe she was the owner because she was bossing around all the young servers like crazy! Â She had a daughter who worked there who was a waitress and she was just as nasty. Â She was the server at another table and the other customers faces were annoyed. Â Food good ... Employee /owner awful
First time trekking down to the Jersey Shore and we stumbled upon the Sand Dollar Pancake House. Â We were starving and basically ordered even before our butts hit the seats in our chairs. Â "Strawberry Pancakes, please!"
Surprisingly, my hunger did not mask the mediocrtiy of the food. Â The pancakes were pretty average. Â I didn't find them fluffy. Â Instead, they were a little spongy. Â I only finished 1 of the 2 that they put on my plate. Â I did appreciate the fresh strawberries, though.
Husband ordered an eggs and bacon plate and generally seemed to like it.
Service was a tad slow, but we were sitting outside and perhaps out of sight for our busy server. Â
Conclusion: Â sit inside and don't order the pancakes.
Compared to some of the local eateries I've come across in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan this place is decent. Â The pancakes were really nothing special and I could probably replicate them at home if given the chance. Â The service was good. Â During the summer season expect to wait a few minutes to be seated because crowds come in the morning and for brunch. Compared to other local spots it's a very solid place to get some breakfast before heading to the beach.
Review Source:We live in Ortley Beach and regularly have breakfast at places like Meg's and Salty's. Â The Sand Dollar is just as good, if not better.
Service: Â excellent. Â We were seated quickly and served drinks right away. Â The food came out very quickly as well. Everyone was polite and friendly.
Food: Â we had breakfast with two picky children. Â Both loved their meals. Â Portions were large and everything was fresh. Â The only downside was that my wife did not like the home fries (but I did).
Atmosphere: everything was very clean. Â There are outside tables available, but we sat inside.
Overall, we liked it there and will go back. Â Recommended.
We just had breakfast for Mother's Day here at their new location and everything was excellent. The pancakes, French toast, eggs, and omelets were all great. Highly recommend. My only complaint is that they were stingy with the equal/sweet-n-low/splenda and we had to keep asking the waitress for more. Otherwise, service and food was great.
