    Like beer selection?
Like sports on lots of tv's?
    Like cute waitresses?
Like a hot bartender that probably surfs better than you and likes action sports?
    Like great wings?

Then you'll like Sandy's Sports Bar.

It's pretty chill and on mountain time, so be mellow and ask twice, if needed.

The only thing missing is the constant surf / snow / extreme  videos, like at Islands.

    Aloha.

Great spots to watch games. I'm here on vacation and wanted to watch the lakers game. Food is good and nice beer section. Only thing, it's empty the two times I been here. Maybe it's because it's big bear and it's cold outside.

Sandy's is by far THEE best place in Big Bear to watch ANY sporting event you desire. The overall vibe is super friendly, local, family friendly and just plain fun! Sports bar food, but above average. Best Fish'n"Chips in the west!!! And Chicken tenders.. you better be hungry when you eat here!! Tons of great beers on tap and always served in an icy cold mug! The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Any time I'm in town, it's a definite must to make a stop in and say hi for some food and a brew. TV's everywhere, regulation size pool tables and games in the back, something to do for everyone!! HANG OUT HERE!!!

I've been going into sandys for years. It is one of my favorite places. The best place to watch any game, enjoy good food and to take the family. I love the food and the people who work there! So if you're looking for a fun relaxed place to eat and somewhere to take the family (they have a game room) go to sandys!

Poor service during playoff weekend... Under staffed & no quality seating... Sections have been covered w/ reserved tables for over two hours but apparently their party is still coming instead of making money now. I feel like this place is the motto of: I'm only going to cater to locals, I guess visitors money doesn't tip the standard 15%.

This place is AWESOME!!! GREAT FOOD, great service, great drinks and a huge craft beer selection. EVERY GAME, EVERY DAY! Friendly & knowledgable staff. It can get hectic on busy holiday weekends so if you're in a hurry, McDonalds is just up the street. Great for the whole family. Bring your manners and you will have a great time! (Try the "JP" Buffalo Wings, best wings on the planet!)

I am not a sports fan, but Sandy's is the best place for lunch in Big Bear. I love  blue cheese wedge salad and theirs is the standard by which they are rated wherever we travel...homemade dressing loaded with blue cheese, huge crispy lettuce wedge, tomato slices and applewood smoked bacon (although I go for chopped red onion because I don't eat meat). If you are lucky on a Saturday, there will be some of the Friday special homemade clam chowder left to round out your lunch.

Just because I don't care for sports, it does not mean that I don't like beer and Sandy's is definitely the beer lover's spot on the mountain! There are so many choices of draft beers and they are served in icy cold mugs.

Especially if you are a sports fan, you should not miss Sandy's while visiting Big Bear. The staff is down-home friendly and eager to please; and I rarely make an order without special instructions ;-)

Do not go here!  In 44 years, I have never left a review, but after going to this place (I cannot call it a restaurant by definition).  In one word...Horrible!  Bad service, bad food, bad everything! The owner acted like were were annoying him at the bar trying to get a drink.    Waited 30-40 minutes trying to flag down a waitress.  Several times they said they would be right with us only to never come back. Finally Ordered, waited over an hour for "food" received "food" and I was amazed at how bad it was.   It was like they tried to do this.  We came to this restaurant as a family with two young children trying to get something decent to eat.  better off going to a fast food joint nearby.
There are a lot of good restaurants in the big bear area and this one is at the very bottom!  Save the time, save the money, enjoy yourself and go somewhere else.

In truth, this is a 3 1/2 star review.
After falling on my ass up & down Snow Summit for several hours one day (hey, I had never been skiing before!), I, the man, and his brother were famished. I think we drove past 2 or 3 other places that were packed (it was around 6pm), and I remembered driving past this place the night before. It's in a strip mall, and as someone else said, it looks tiny from the outside, but has a ton of space on the inside.
Our waitress was very friendly, but unfortunately was slow as molasses. The drinks took forever to come out, and it was NOT crowded. I had planned to order a beer once I was done with my ice tea, but she came by so infrequently that we were all done eating, and I didn't want to wait around for who knows how long to order and drink a beer.
The redeeming quality, and reason for the rating, is the food. It was fantastic. Slow to come out as well, but everything turned out great. I got the guacamole burger; they put actual huge dollops of guacamole on it, not that fake thin paste some places try to pawn off. The pepper jack added the right amount of spice. The burger was actually so big, I didn't think I'd even get around to finishing it (but turns out I was hungrier than I thought!)
Even though it wasn't really sanctioned, the waitress let me request a side of the fried zucchini instead of the typical fries or sweet potato fries. I expected the portion to be stingy, but there was a whole PILE of perfectly crisped, juicy zucchini ovals next to my burger. So many, I actually shared with the guys (and the man knows I usually snap at any hand that grabs for my zucchini). Overall, despite the wait, I would return for the food.

Sandy's in Big Bear review gets low ratings. The bartender, who may have been the manager or owner, made us wait quite a while even though it wasn't busy. He was busy chatting with the regulars. Ordered the fried zucchini and had a couple bites. The ranch was the best part :/ Vodka drinks were fine. Ordered a fish tacos. The tortillas were burned, fish was frozen, batter use sold disgusting oil, salsa smelled rancid. Took one bite and realized it was indelible. Friend got veggie sandwich, two pieces of wonder bread with a slice of lettuce, a slice of tomato, and avocado slices - took one bite - totally devoid of flavor. Friend also got French onion soup, took one bite, tasted like garlic soup, chunk of cheese had sunk to the bottom. Told bartender/manager/owner food was awful and did not want it. He argued with us for five minutes and said he would charge us anyway. Very rude and unprofessional. I just wanted to leave so said, find I'll pay if that's the way you want to run your business. He did not end up charging us for the food, but I did leave with food poisoning which ruined the rest if my night. Do not eat here, you have been warned. It's the stuff you see on Restaurant Impossible or Bar Rescue.

Typical bar with a good TV selection.  The beer fries were great.  The owners/waiters were pretty rude to people around us.

This is a real sports bar, for real sports fans. Sandy's is the kind of place you go to hang out with friends, have some drinks, catch the game, and have bar food. If you live in Big Bear, this is the kind of place where "everybody knows your name" (yes cheesy, I know). If you're visiting and need to feel "at home" while watching a game, this is just the place. They have many different types of beers a decently varied menu (best fries ever, btw!), something like 20+ tv's,and even a game room with video games and pool tables. Is it gourmet fusion cuisine? No, but that's really not what a sports bar is for.

Sandy's is not only the best sports bar in BB, it's the best I can think of anywhere.  Why?

It's a Cheers-type bar, with a veteran crew and lots of regular customers, young and older, all of whom know how to have fun.  The big selection of draft beers is matched by a galaxy of TVs showing every game--even ones available only via internet.  And Sandy's has the best casual menu in town.

Owners Brian and Debbie are personable, and offer old-school service, food, and libations.  Fred is a true raconteur, Harmony likes to mix it up with the gang, and when he isn't traveling the world from South Africa to the Ukraine, Paul has many tales to tell.

It's a good place to bring the family or a big group--friendly environment, lots of big tables, and plenty of video games, pool, and shuffleboard for those poor souls who don't appreciate sports.  Wifi too.

Only giving four stars because Fred, who I presume to have been the owner was a UCLA fan. We went to Big Bear for the weekend and our cabin did not have the PAC 12 network, so we quickly had to find a bar in the area that was playing the USC - Cal game and Sandy's did. My boyfriend went early and sat at a table for two hours prior to hold the table so we wouldn't miss a cherry spot. Fred gave him a pretty hard time for sitting in that spot when my girl friend and I were a bit late to the game, but it is a business and it was all in light hearted fun. The beer battered fries were amazing and the prices were reasonable. The banter of Fred can't be beat! So, go and enjoy yourself

excellent service , local bartender Harmony is awesome!! Most food is delicious, burgers are large and scrumptuous ... chicken wings are also excellent.  if looking for lighter fare, salads are good size and tasty.   Plently of big screen tv's to watch the game, usually not too crowded.

First of all we sat for about 15 minutes before anyone came to our table.  We were about to leave the place when I hit up the waitress and she finally came over.

We tried the Pastrami which was fatty and salty.  Not a good choice, very disappointed.  Also, because I was from out of town, I always ask what they are known for, what is their specialty and usually go for that, well they they also claimed that their fish and chips was a popular choice.  I found it to be not very good quality fish and it was super greasy (you know that kind that coats the inside of your mouth..yukk)

The only good thing about this place was the hot wings.  They were very good and the medium spicy was good.

Best thing to go for is for the 21 TVs showing sports and the the beer !!!!

Sandys Sports Bar has great seating, a lot of TVs including a couple Big Screens! Their Tuesday .50 cent wings are really good, you have to add the sauce on the wings which is somewhat of a downfall but the sauce is really good! Order the full rack of Ribs, they are so delicious and the meat comes right off the bone since it is cooked to perfection, the plate also comes with fries and coleslaw (tasteless coleslaw BTW) try and switch it for more fries or something else u may like. Our waitress had a great attitude it was on my bday and she sang me Happy Birthday like 15 times lol great staff and a good Beer selection!!!

Im not going to knock them because it was a busy day for football, so Im going to ignore that in my rating, but explain it anyway.

We went on Saturday the 14th, with the 9ers/Saints playing, and the Patriots/Donkeys coming on after. We got there about 4:30, just as the 9er game was getting good and the places was PACKED. The worst part is, there is NO organization in here when its busy. Nobody to take a name, its all fend for yourself. So its all the luck of the draw on landing a table. We waited for 30 minutes before catching on a 2 person table, for 4 people. To make it even worse, once we sat down, we waited 30 minutes to have our table cleaned and get a drink. 4 waitresses walked right by us, served the tables on each side of us, but nobody even so much as gave us a glance. I was very irritated.

So I flag down a waitress and she says sorry, but you didnt wait for us to clean the table so we didnt know you wanted us to clean it. Excuse me? We HAD to sit at a dirty table. If you wait for someone to clean it, you'll never get one! You have to pounce when one opens up, or you are SOL. I specifically pushed the 3 cups on the table to the edge of the table, with the previous napkins stuffed inside - If anyone looked, you could tell the table needed to be cleaned.

Anyway, Im being real fair by not knocking them a grade for that. It was a packed night with some quality football games on. I really shouldn't be so fair, since this is a sports bar after all, but thats just the kind of guy I am.

So ... to the actual rating part of the night!

We ordered a pitcher of bud light, and when it comes, she says sorry, we're out of cold mugs. Not a huge issue, but you are a sports bar, have decent prices on pitchers, you really should be prepared for this type of thing. So even though people talk about the beer being ice cold, and the mugs being frozen ... Don't buy it. Its a situational type of thing.

We ordered a lot ... wings, potato skins, mozzarella sticks, and some entrees. The wings were solid. $12 for 12 wings is a little pricey though. They're your typical wing, and you only have two sauce options, so they're not anything special. The skins were good ... they come with salsa, but we ordered them without because one of us didn't want it. Again, just a typical potato skin. Hard to mess up. Same with the mozzarella sticks. Basic frozen ones dropped into a deep fryer. Not complaining, I dont expect gourmet or hand made everything, just letting you know.

As for the entrees: I ordered a club sandwich and my friend ordered a bbq beef sandwich. The worst, first. The bbq beef was TERRIBLE. My friend loves bbq, and the sandwich comes loaded with meat. But the sauce is very odd. Its got a hard to describe taste to it, but its not very good. My friend refused to eat it. Im pretty indifferent to bbq - Ill eat it, just dont crave it or anything. I took a bite as well. Definitely did not like this one. So if you're really into bbq, you're going to be disappointed. If you just think a bbq sandwich sounds good, you're going to be disappointed. Pretty much - Stay away from the bbq beef sandwich.

The club sandwich on the other hand ... Good lord, that thing is massive. The biggest club sandwich Ive ever had, by far. Some places go bread, turkey, bread, bacon, bread with some lettuce and cheese mixed in. This one is bread, turkey, bacon, cheese(swiss and cheddar), bread, turkey, bacon, cheese, bread with some lettuce. It was so good I ate it all, and was miserably full afterwards. And I can eat, so this one is definitely filling.

One odd thing was that we ordered a PBnJ for a 4 year old that was with us, and they offered us an option of grape or strawberry jelly, which was nice but didnt offer a choice of bread. Granted, the kid is way too picky but sourdough was the only bread option. For PBnJ? He refused to eat it because of it. Be aware.

It was a solid place to watch the game. Arguably the only place to watch the game in a sports bar environment so you have to deal with the negatives. The place would be a 1 or 2 with the problems we had before getting settled in, but in a normal setting, I give it a 3. Worth checking out, but if there are some big games on the day you're coming, get there early. Real early.

Place was such an awesome, home-y area. We were late for happy hour but the bartender was kind enough to still give it to us. The nachos were whatever but the poppers, potato skins, and the calamari were delicious. We played pool and darts and they had plenty of t.v screens to watch games on. For dinner, I had a cheese burger which was pretty good and the sweet potato fries were yummy. I had a bite of my friend's pastrami sandwich and it was delicious.

What impressed me the most was their service. Everyone was so kind and friendly and they actually talk to try to make conversation with you. We don't get that much in LA!

Although the restaurant  was busy, we were warmly greeted and sat by the host.

Our server, however; was not so friendly. She was not bad but you could just tell she was checked out for the night and wasn't really paying attention to her customers anymore. Since we were having fun, I would have cared less had she smiled.

Also, I ordered a hot chocolate and asked if it was made from a machine and she said they make it themselves  so I asked for non fat milk. Although with whipped cream, the presentation was nice, it was obviously made with water not milk so that sucked.

I would have given 3 stars had the food actually been good.

I hike/bike up in the mountains a lot and when I'm done for the day and need a big meal I always head for Sandy's.

Stopped in there again last wednesday after a long day hiking in the hills.  I was smelly, sweaty, and HUNGRY.  I ordered a diet coke and a bbq beef sandwich.  My huge glass was never empty, my meal came right out and was gigantic.  The bartender was cool as hell, asked me what game I wanted to watch; the Yankees and Red Sox were on and the very first NCAA football games were on so I watched the 3 exact games I wanted to watch after he set up the TV's for me.  Very helpful service, I couldn't have gotten better in my own home.

Price was way cheap, the food was delicious, service awesome.  I will go back there every chance I get.  Also seems like a great place to get tore up from the floor up in the evenings if you're staying in town.

Sandy's!! Best place in Big Bear for every type of traveler or local, hands down!

It's easy to locate right as you enter onto Big Bear Blvd which is very convenient. Its blocks from the slopes so after sliding down snow for hours it makes for a perfect fit to a super fun day. Ive gone there with family or single friends and every experience was great.

The owners Brian and Debbie really hit a home run with the food, staff, decor, location and overall amazing atmosphere. The dining area, bar and game room are separated by a partition which makes conversation easy. You can relax with a bottle of wine or unwind with their great beer selection on tap with buddies. If your wanting to eat light or really chow down Sandy's has it and especially if your with a group of families with kids. Feed the little shorties and then watch them play in the game room from your table. Pool tables, video games, pinball machines, etc.

I was there for the Superbowl, which was incredible, and I dropped in another time because the 'San Diego Charger Cheerleaders' were there. Check out their website. Its no wonder why its been around for so long.

I snowboard often in Big Bear and Sandy's is one of my bar to unwind after a hard day in the office on the slopes before the lengthy down drive home.  Great local flavors, good beer, and one of my favorite places for hot wings.  Them wings are tasty.  Oh try the nitro sauce, it's nos for your mouth.

We stopped in on our first night of a 3 night trip, on a Sunday.  It was really dead, I think maybe a total of 5-7 other people in there (that we could see, as I understand the bar goes back really far and has lots of different rooms, we were seated at the bar right when you come through the front door).

It's in the corner of a small strip mall and has a small sign, so it could be easy to miss, we got to it just because I was paying attention to the arrow on the navigation screen on the phone and yelled "Turn Here!"

The bartender (girl, not sure of her name) was attentive, we got drinks (they have cider if you're not a beer drinker) and the "family size" basket of buffalo wings.  Regular is 6 wings, Family size is 12 wings.  We saw that there was "regular" or "nitro" sauce and asked for both, and were charged $1 for the Nitro sauce, which came in the small size plastic ramekins that salad dressing comes in.  Now that I think about it, we might have been charged for Blue Cheese to dip the wings in, but I can't be sure.  I did have 2 glasses of house Merlot, which was $4 each and came in the most adorable tiny little wine glasses.  But they were filled to the top, so I am not complaining.

The wings were good, I hear (from the bartender) that it's way more fun on weekend nights, so we might go back to check it out.  I am planning my sister's bachelorette party in a month up in Big Bear, but I don't think it's the right atmosphere for that kind of party, it's a sports bar, not really somewhere I'd go with a bunch of girls.

Our bill for one cider, 2 wines, and the wings was $19 and change.

Decent place to grab food/beers with friends and catch a game, shoot pool, etc.  For San Diego residents, this place has sort of a Cass Street Bar & Grill feel, but bigger and with waiter service.

Great selection of beers, tons of TV's and games, along with typical bar fare and some good choices a little off the path (BTW - the chili is incredible).  It's a good place, I enjoy my time there for sure.

Kids are allowed in (not sure how late), so keep that in mind if you have (or don't want to be around) kids.

Service can be slow, so bring your mellow or sit at the bar if you really want those beers coming quick.

I was in Big Bear for a couple of days and after a day of snowboarding at the local slopes, I needed a place to watch a good ol' hockey game!  Sandy's was one of the few places that was open late and had multiple screens going on.

Football took precedence at Sandy's and hockey was shown on their smallest monitor.  I sat at the bar where the screen was and noticed that the volume was turned down.  i asked the owner to turn up the volume of the hockey game and he scoffed saying that hockey was not a real game.  I told him that I'm leaving so he gave in :).

Sandy's a pretty decent place for late night snacking and drinking.  It has a relatively large menu for a sports bar.  All of their menu items were named after sports terms and athletes.

I'm a season pass holder at Big Bear/Snow Summit, so I was looking for a place close to the slopes that I could unwind, watch some sports, and chug on some brew. Thanks to the positive reviews on yelp I happened to find this place, and what a find it was! When you walk in you can tell that this place is filled w/ bar regulars who probably know everyone else there. But don't worry about being cast aside, the bartender that works there did an awesome job at keeping are mugs full. They also have awesome deals that go throughout football games, like $1 beers whenever any team scores a touchdown...how cool is that! Only thing is, that $1 beer, tastes like a $1 beer...yuck :P But what do you expect...it's a $1 beer!!!

Got to Big Bear like TEN hours earlier than the rest of the group last Friday & had nothing to do - 'cos the cabin had no cable tv...we could only play on the internet so much.  So we headed into town to hit up Vons for some soda & munchies.

I Yelped for a local bar to hang out at...we found Sandy's.

Drove up & missed the sign - a small yellow sign...flipped a b*tch and drove in.  Parked and thought, "Wow - looks kinda small"...entered & saw that this place is gianormous!  It spreads out back with pool tables, shuffle board, arcade games, full bar, several tv screens, you name it!  It's completely misleading from the outside 'cos it spreads backwards so you don't see how awesome this place is from the front!

Our pretty female bartender was very cool & served us quickly.  I should've caught her name, but didn't.  We ordered beer on tap.  The Guinness kinda tasted a little fizzier?  Might it be the altitude?  The Newcastle just tasted watered down - which is odd - don't they ship the beer up in kegs from the plant?  Oh wells.

Shot some pool - ate some jalapeno poppers (thumbs up) - watched some high school football game (BCHS vs Bishop...or something like that).  Had an awesome time 'cos I beat both boytoy & our other guy friend!  2 hours flew by before we headed out to dinner.  Winner winner chicken dinner was for me!  Guy friend paid for the bar/pool.  Boytoy paid for dinner.  Wheeeeeeeeeee!

Definitely come back here on our next trip to Bear!

    Update on the previous situation:

I contacted the owner and he responded right away and was very upset that I had had such a bad experience with Bill.  He assured me that this is not how he runs his business and offered me a free round next time I came in.  Came in last night and they had the game up on the big screen waiting for me.   Fred was the bartender taking care of us and he was very good.  He made sure to check up on us and had a great attitude.  I'm pleased with how the evening went, even if my team got trampled in the game.  I had the Mountain Burger, which was AWESOME.   Hopefully the Bill fiasco is taken care of, so I'll be back!

This place was really cool. We just stopped in for a cocktail while headed towards the lake for Oktoberfest (which I WILL NEVER DO AGAIN)

The people running the bar was a husband and wife team were super friendly. It's a sports bar. It was loud with cheering football fans which I know nothing about. However watching these locals go nuts was fun... People here are friendly not rude like some locals only type places in the area.

The fries here are tasty.. I certainly try to stay clear from greasy fatty foods but I wanted to try!

the chick here pours heavy too and cheap!

I'm a bit biased because the owners are good friends of mine, but the atmosphere here is better than anywhere else I hang out in Big Bear.  I have heard it described as the "Cheers of Big Bear" and that's probably a fair assessment.

I usually order the cheeseburger, chili size, or the french dip, all good choices.

If you are into sports, or just want a relaxed atmosphere without a bunch of drunks and people starting fights, this is a better choice than Chad's or Murray's.

The food here is nothing special. Typical sports bar food with mediocre taste. 3 stars for that.

What really sucks about this place is their service. Consistently horrible. Unless this place is completely empty, dont expect to get attention from the understaffed workers. I used to come on Laker game nights for the atmosphere but its really just not worth it anymore unless I show up like an hour before game time.

They do change the channels on the smaller tv's on request if no one in the immediate area is watching whatever is on it.

It's nothing to write home about (the food and drinks were just OK and the TVs are tuned to a good variety of games but no flat screens) but it's better than Chad's.
