I have eaten Teppanyaki in Chicago, San Francisco, and Orlando, FL, and Sapporo is the best I've tried. The flavors intermingle perfectly, the atmosphere is classy but welcoming, and the service we received  was top-notch, especially for Fort Wayne. I am not a fan of sushi, but my spouse is and said the Ichiban and Kyoto rolls are fabulous! I AM a cheesecake afficianado, and loved the tempura cheesecake with chocolate topping. We dined on a Monday night and had a minimal wait for everything. Highly recommended!
Review Source:I went to Sapporo for dinner on a Friday around 8pm. I've been dying to try this place out since it opened. Well I finally went with two friends and it seemed like a great idea. We were seated at our own grill table and our server was really nice her name was Paige. She was friendly funny and always there when we needed something. I had a drink called the Hawaiian Volcano which was really good and definitely big enough to share. I ordered the Steak, Chicken, And Shrimp combination. It all came out looked great got fried rice to go with it and quite a show put on with our chef lots of joking and all was great. I was over halfway through my meal and found a blonde hair about 10 inches long in my rice. I was absolutely disgusted. Our server watched me pull it out of my mouth put it into a napkin and ran to the back. She came out and told me that the manager would take care of it. I ended up getting sick just thinking about it and lost my dinner to say the least. The manager took care of the bill that's for sure. She gave me a $7 discount. I looked at the server said really? Even the server agreed said it was a little outrageous. I then spoke with the manager who was very kind I said I thought $7 was a little far fetched considering I got sick and you saw the hair. She appologized seeing how upset I was and said she would take care of it. So revised bill #2 comes out well she decided to discount it $14. I am sorry but at that point I lost it. We had over a $180 bill and your going to give me $14 off she said well sir I saw your plate and there was hardly any meat left on it. I felt like I was being attacked and she was arguing with me. I said well you can find the rest of the meat in your toilet because that's where it went. She finally took my item off of the bill after another 5 minutes of arguing. I have never felt so attacked at a place. Sapporo looks amazing, the atmosphere is great we had a great dinner but HORRIBLE customer service. I will never ever go back here again. The manager there that night ruined the entire experience and I would never take anyone I know there again or tell my friends about it.
Review Source:Coming from California, we have had all kinds of sushi and I must say this is awesome! Try the hwe-do-pop bowl, it is soooooooo good! It is sashimi on top of rice with the spicy Korean sauce. They are very generous with the sushi portion size too! get your money's worth! The building is clean and the bathrooms are very fancy! Definitely recommend you come here!
Review Source:We tried Sapporo today for lunch. As far as decor wise the place is calm, serene and modern. The wait staff was slowish but once they got going it improved. It took about 20 min once set down to get orders taken and all. This is not the place to go if you are in ANY hurry at all. The chef arrived about 10 min later. The show was entertaining (tho a bit overdone). I ordered the chicken and steak combo. The salad arrived first. It was small but adequate and tasted great. The rice got done first and was plated about 15 min or more before the rest got done so needless to say it no longer warm when the rest was done. The rice itself was pretty flavorless. The veggies came next again not great flavored. You get 2 sauces to dip your meat in, neither was good to me, they tasted like ginger and wine and well... They didn't compliment the meat. The meat itself was cooked to perfection and tho the steak was not anything special the chicken was good and had a good flavor. Amount wise I expected more food for the price the combo was around $ 10.99 (before tax/tip) and I didn't have a plate full of food. Speaking of the plates, very nice. If you are going for the experience ( the show and decor ect) try it out. If you care more about the food (like me) and you really like good flavored food then you might want to skip this one. I found it very bland and not a good value. Btw.. The bathroom was nice ( loved the sink) but the auto paper towel thing was already not working.
Review Source:The place is beautiful and seems like they have a large staff. I ordered a madonna roll, it looked kind of sad (kind of how my sushi looks when i make it at home), but it did taste pretty good. However, this was by far the most blan hibachi meal we have ever had. We love hibachi and have had it for years, but the most flavorful thing here were the brussels sprouts. The soup was wayyy too salty, salad dressing was different (maybe has sour cream in it) but not too bad. The fried rice had zero flavor which was surprising because it looked like the chef put a lot of stuff on it, including a good dousing of sweet teriyaki sauce. The vegetables were cooked with no seasoning at all, i think. The shrimp were as well as the chicken were ruined by the horrid teriyaki sauce, it just made it all taste like im in a food court at the mall, sweet and blan at the same time. You should add ingredients that enhance the flavor of protein, not hind it completely and make it so you cant even tell if its chicken or shrimp. Also, sometimes the ginger sauce can save all, but it was also kind of runny and flavorless. Lastly, get a decent green tea in a tea pot. A japanese steakhouse that serves you a tea bag of green tea is unheard of, even if it does taste ok. (Tip: have your chefs take a road-trip to a nearest Benihana and take some notes on flavor)
We may give it a month or so to see if they decide to change anything, if they don't, we are definitely not coming back. It sucks too because we were very excited about this place!
My family and I went to Sapporo around 3:30 on Sunday afternoon.  We were expecting it to be empty - and it was.  It is a large restaurant with many teppanyaki tables and a separate section for sushi.  Our server, Paige, was funny and efficient.  Our chef was named Mike, I believe, and he moved here from South Bend  .  He was very nice and the food was very good.  This restaurant is very similar to Takaoka.  There are some differences, however.  It is not as dark as Takaoka, and is easier to get to, as it is not downtown.  Also, the soup is different and the terriyaki vegetables that come with every meal have broccoli, carrots and mushrooms, whereas Takaoka does not.  The shrimp appetizer that comes with every meal only contains 2 shrimp - pretty skimpy - so we ordered extra.  I am not sure if this restaurant can make a go in Fort Wayne, since we already have Takaoka and Koto, but I hope it does.
