The only reason this place gets two stars is because its got great service. Otherwise the food was flavorless and ill cooked. The steak was greasy, like it was sauteed instead of grilled or seared. The salad bar was skimpy and predictable with more pre-made salad sides than raw vegetables and lettuce. The Malibu Chicken I ordere was underseasoned and quite honestly the worse I've ever had.
For all of the great reviews I thought we'd really enjoy our meal. We ate better at Triple Play's bowling alley down the street.
Avoid this place if you want real steakhouse food. I feel bad for the kind servers who have to hock what their subpar chef makes them serve.
Try the prime rib, salad bar and dessert. Â :You can't go wrong! Â But call ahead, because they only sell the prime rib until it runs out.
Years ago my sister and her husband lived in Coeur d'Alene so we visited there frequently. Â Our first visit to Sargents was during one of those visits. Â When they moved on, my wife and I would take frequent trips between Montana and Seattle to visit other family members so Coeur d'Alene and Holden Lake were at the mid-way point, providing a good spot to eat and rest-up for the second half of the trip.
Sargents is a place that I seem to over look. Â Maybe because it has been around so long I just don't notice it. Â
Well I decided to give it a go and I took my wife there. Â We walked in the bar entrance and it was lively compared to the quiet dining room so we decided to dine in the bar.
Tracy our server was very personable and knowledgeably about the menu. I choose the 6 oz Filet Mignon and my wife ordered Chicken Cordon Bleu. Â The salad bar was small, but very tasty with a nice assortment of salads. Â My filet was well seasoned and had a nice char. Â It was cooked to a beautiful medium rare just like I ordered. My wife quickly announced the Cordon Bleu was the best she ever had. Â It was moist, flavorful and had a nice light sauce. I was less impressed with the twice baked potato that was recommended by our server. It seemed to have been prepared in advance and was bland. Â
I can honestly say overall it was one of the better meals I have had in a restaurant in quite sometime. My dinner was $16.00 and well worth it. Â Do not overlook this restaurant because you will not be disappointed. Â I will not make that that mistake again and look forward to going again very soon!
If they improve the twice baked potatoes and clean the unsightly food stains on some of the upholstered bar chairs, I would gladly give it 5 stars.
One of my favorites places to eat both for lunch and dinner. I only gave it four stars because the last two times I went with my wife and friends the food was not up to par. Hope they fix that. Been going to this restaurant  on a regular basis for the last 5 years and really have not had a bad meal. The waitress and staff are all great. All in all I love this place.
Review Source:A friend who lives in the area recommended this restaurant, otherwise we never would have eaten here because there are no reviews written for it.
We got a hint that it might be good when we pulled into the parking lot on a Wed eve and there were quite a few cars in the lot.
Inside, our initial impression was that it was stuck in the 50's because of the decor. Â
We wanted prime rib, medium rare, but the waitress said that they had overcooked the meat that day so it was medium at best, so my wife and I ordered a veal liver dinner to share. Â Our friend ordered a filet mignon. Â The salad bar, which is included with the meals, is small, but had good variety and had very good peas and noodles as well as normal salad bar items. Â The waitress said all of the prepared items on the salad bar are prepared on the premises.
When our veal liver dinner arrived, my wife and I each got a big plate of liver, onions, bacon, mashed potatoes, garlic bread and veggies. Â We thought the waitress had mistakenly served us 2 meals, but she said that it was 1 meal that they had split. Â Â Everything on the plate was very good.
Our friend said her filet mignon was excellent too. Â
Based on the excellent quality of the food we had, I am sure that their steaks and prime rib are also very good.
I also had a piece of chocolate peanut butter pie which was very good.
Both dinners were $15 and included the salad bar. Â You would expect to pay much more in a fancier restaurant for excellent quality food.
We also enjoyed the fact that it was quiet enough so we could easily converse among ourselves.
The next time we visit the area we will return to this restaurant.
