Schatze's is a neighborhood bar that's been in existance for as long as I can remember.  It's a small joint, with a cozy bar, occupied by rowdy locals!  The bar maids and waitresses are friendly.  The food is, well, bar food.  And for bar food, it's great!  Their burgers are awesome, and their onion rings are great!  They have lunch/dinner specials that just can't be touched, price-wise!  Last week I had a pork steak plate, with two sides (cole slaw and beans), for $4.99!  The also serve peel-and-eat shrimp, for .35 each.  I know Fast Eddie's shrimp are cheaper, but Schatze's sells only jumbo shrimp, and they are huge!

Schatze's features entertainment on Wednesdays and on the weekend.  Usually Karaoke, or a live band.  The place is small, and when the entertainment is happening, the place gets crowded quick!  They have an outdoor patio, but usually full of the smoking crowd!

Okay, Schatze's is a dive.  But it's a great dive!  The place is popular with bikers, but I wouldn't call it a "biker bar".  Nevertheless, it's a nice scooter stop after a long day in the saddle.

Definitely a place to go for a quick bite, and ice-cold beer!  TV abound, so not a bad place to catch a Blues or a Cards game!

Still the best dive in Belleville.

    Schatze's makes me miss Belleville!

Let's be honest, it not the nicest establishment. It's quite trashy, but you know what? Everyone needs a guilty pleasure. Schatze's happened to be mine while I lived in the St. Louis area.

Regarding their food, you can't find anything cheaper! The quality ranges. Burgers are burgers. Brats are brats. I will say that their peel-and-eat shrimp are surprisingly flavorful and fresh when you consider the proximity to the ocean. The fact that they keep their food cheap is something I consider noteworthy. They don't let you have to-go orders since they want you there drinking, of course, but I see no problem with that.

They keep many of my favorite beers on tap. If I recall, they had Boulevard. This did not seem like too big of a deal at the time, but as I now live far far away from the Kansas City home of boulevard, it is impossible to find, which makes me miss Schatze's even more.

Buzztime trivia...silly. Karaoke...shameless. Skimpy waitresses...maybe a little trashy. A good time....most certainly so long as you get in the right state of mind!

Definitely the cheapest place to eat!  You have to buy a drink (doesn't have to be alcohol) for their food.  I went one day when their burgers were 50 cents, for real meat!  The place itself is a dive, but the service is decent.  It does take a while for your food to be prepared as you receive your food in order, however, you can sit at a table and wait.  Lunchtime is kid friendly.  They even have one high chair in the place.  For me it was an order of french fries, a hot dog, and some chili which is decent with one drink for a total of $4.70 you just can't beat the price!

I can't speak for the people there but the burger is the best you will have. I have lived in KC, South Carolina, and Dallas and I still have not found a burger that is anywhere close. To top it off, it is only $1.29! The crowd can be rough, though, so visit for lunch to stay safe.

    You're takin' her with ya?

Being from that side of the river, I've driven past Schatze's once or twice, and thought it was the shitty yet lovable hole in the wall local bar that Belleville people spent many a night getting wasted in. However, after a recent unplanned stop there, this mirage was destroyed as fast as bobby barstool can chug down a beer.

The waitresses here are dressed up like wannabe Hooters girls on a bad, street crime riddled night scene in a special episode of Law and Order SVU. To get food, you place an order from a snack bar, that is literally a different bar than the bar, and a little dude fries up your food and gives you a number.

Drunk and lurking dudes stared at me from across the room at the bar bar.. a man popped into the back door behind where I was sitting and yelled at me, WHOO HOOO!. Surprised, I said..hi? YOU DID IT WRONG, he said, then walked away. It wasn't until my friend told me that the local Chester the Molester just walked in. Sparing you the details, by this time know that I didn't want to share breathing space with this man any longer. And, making sure that Schatze's will always remain a remnant of a bad memory, a shard of that bad part of a dream that forever haunts you, as we walked out, my friend through the door and I almost through to safety, one of the leering lurches leaned back in his sleeveless jean shirt and asked, in a voice loud enough for the entire contents of the den to hear, "YA TAKIN HER WITH YA???"

Run, run for the hills little bunny, run!

And all the way to the car I ran.
