Yum! Inventive, delicious and fresh.  Worth the drive from wherever you are. Cocktails are unique and thoughtful. We chose salads for appetizers and weren't disappointed by the creative combinations. Three fish dishes for mains - one was better than the next. Mediterranean doesn't cover the breadth of this menu.

By far, one of the best restaurants in the area, including NW CT.

Wonderful place! I had goat cheese spaetzle and my wife had duck, both in forms not described on their Web menu. We exchanged bites and found everything very much to our liking.

Service was also excellent, and the chef/owner was friendly. I really can't understand the unfavorable reviews that are on the Yelp site. As far as we were concerned, there was no reasonable room for objection to anything.

Have been going to this restaurant for years for my mother's birthday.  She loves it.  I'm sick and tired of the service and the attitude.  Tonite we had to ask for them to put the heat on (it was 17 degrees outside and not much warmer inside).  Then we had our drink order taken and ordered two appetizers.  While we waited we were asked if we wanted tap or bottled water, got that, and then proceeded to wait.  I had to ask for bread, which was handily delivered to the table that was seated after us.  We ordered our meals and finally got some bread and at the same time our appetizers.  We ate our appetizers, the plates were cleared and then we waited, and waited and waited.  My father and I finally got up to go to the bathroom, I asked one of the staff to see if our dinners were coming, she said they were being plated.  We waited a good ten more minutes.  Then my father's scallops came, we told him to eat while they were hot, I guess that wasn't an issue because they weren't hot, and the rest of us waited and waited,  when our meals arrived, my father told the staff that his meal was cold, by that time my mother had tasted her meal and her potatoes were cold, but all else on the plate was fine.  She told them not to do anything to the meat.  When the meals came back, my husband and I had finished our meals.  My father had only two scallops on his plate and my mother's steak (which had been med/rare and nice and red) was now well done and not even any pink.  She didn't want to say anything, I asked my father where the other scallops went and the chef (who brought out the dishes) said "he ate one already".  WTF, you are in the service industry sir, your editorializing is not needed here.  Just apologize for the food and shut up.  I looked at my mother's meat and said, Mom tell them to take it back it's well done now, not med rare.  She didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so she just ate it.  I knew she was unhappy, but I didn't want to make her more uncomfortable so I didn't insist.  At those prices, you should get what you ordered.  All they had to do was give her a hot side of potatoes, instead of ruining her steak.  They took our plates and we waited and waited and waited again for the bill.  Finally, the waitress came over with two desserts.  I just wanted to leave.  My mother ate the dessert and the owner/chef came over and asked how it was, my mother said she loved the chocolate one, he said well, what about the baklava?  My father said it was fine, the guy didn't leave until my father said he liked it very much.  Well, sir, I know we aren't you're regulars, so you don't have to please us, but guess what, we're not ever coming back and we're telling all of our friends that we told to go to your restaurant, not to bother.  Enjoy your regulars.  I'm sure you dont' give them your attitude.

My favorite part are the interesting house cocktails!  Service can be a little up and down, but the atmosphere is great and the food is superb.

We had an intolerable eating experience and an insulting followup conversation with the "chef" owner.
The menu is an unappealing offering of standard fare with strange ingredient pairings like grilled prawns with fresh cherries.
After being unable to choose an appetizing item from the regular menu we decided that we could not go wrong with the specials: Steak and Halibut.
The steak was overlooked and tough...inedible. The Halibut was barely passable - the greens side dish so salty...inedible
After making the waitress, who was very nice, aware of the problem we were offered another main course but it was too late in the game so we politely declined.
We were then presented with a check. A $37.00 charge for the steak and $35 for the halibut (prices for both were not disclosed when specials were described table-side).
Dinner with one drink ea., no appetizer....$150.00 with a $25.00 tip.
We were incensed by the fact the $37 charge for an inedible piece of meat was left on the check.
I left a note on the check.
Received a a follow up phone call from the chef/owner.  After he explained that we were not the only ones who complained about the steak that evening he took on an indignant tone when I told him that I thought the situation was not handled properly. I suggested that we should not have been charged for the steak. he told me I should not be telling him how to run his business, raised his voice and hung up on me.
We are two sophisticated diners, foodies but not snobs residing in Manhattan and here in Dutchess Co. We went to Serevan on a recommendation of good friend.
Our opinion: stay far away from an unappealing menu and a chef/owner that not only needs to re-read the definition of hospitality but also needs to be taught a lesson in life.

Serge's follow up note affirms that in addition to his lack of professionalism in and out of the kitchen he resorts to outright lies to try and protect a reputation that is already tarnished.
My opinion and experience is backed up by other reviewers here.

Food and decor charming, but service terrible.  Kitchen fouled up, leaving several tables waiting more than an hour for entrees.  Server disappeared and no one came to ask for patience.  Chef came out after we finally were served to explain the kitchen had been overwhelmed...but why take reservations that you know will swamp the staff?   Fellow diners say this was not the first such experience.

Serge is an artiste! Here, you come can come and enjoy a cucumber or watermelon martini while you peruse the wine list and wait for a server to tell you the specials for the evening which is literally like having poetry recited to you. Serge searches local markets for the best produce, decorates the restaurant with heirloom tomatoes, pumpkins, herbs growing in small pots and whatever beautiful things he can find. But make no mistake - there is nothing small town about Serevan.

This place is a treasure!  There is something for everyone here.  Vegetarian, steak, poultry, fish, cheese tart, and you can bet it's all good.  Whether you stick with a tried and true dish or decide to go for something different for a change, you will be very very happy.  Even with things I would never ordinarily order or like even I have to say it was delicious and cooked to perfection.  I  hope you fast throughout the day because the flow from appetizer to dinner and then dessert is truly an experience to be had.  The courses complement each other.  If you do not have the required room it's sufficient to enjoy  any one course in and of itself and be full if you do it right.  Have a few cocktails with your app. and call it a night.  A glass of wine or beer along with your bread with dinner and you WILL be stuffed.  Or simply come for dessert: I personally love their jasmine tea and rose water infused creme brulee but you can come up with your own combination.
I tend to overindulge.  I begin and end like a champ and I really must stop.  But I make the exception for Seravan.

Simple and quaint, country style house.  Small garden in the back and outdoor seating if you love to be outside.  Indoors is very charming.  Bar is very welcoming and warm, feel like you can saddle up with no problem if you'd like a less formal evening.  Main dining room is wonderfully simplististic yet still retains that rural accent.  Bathrooms are lovely and the staff has always been sweet.

Everything on the menu is worth a try.  Everything is made with the intention of natural flavor being brought out.  My glass of prosecco pulled it all together!

We went here for our anniversary at the recommendation of our family who own Number 9 in Millerton (so we knew the food must be amazing). The restaurant is up on a hill in a simple, but very beautiful blue house. The staff was friendly. We ordered our drinks and they came around with a nice warm bread basket. The Food: For apps we ordered the falafel plate and the thai beef salad. Both were delicious, but if I had to choose one I would have chosen the falafel plate. It was really delicious and fitting to the overall tone of the food the rest of the evening. For dinner, we ordered the duck and the beef stew special. My duck was excellent. I normally will not order duck in a restaurant because it can really be horrible or incredible, but I got the sense I could trust the chef here and I went ahead - and was so glad I did. and while my duck was great (and the accompanying mint barley side) it was nothing compared to my husband's beef stew. That was hands down the best beef stew I have ever tasted. It had so many flavors that came together and made you say "wow" after taking a bite. We were so happily satisfied after finishing our dinner but figured we may as well go all the way and try the dessert while we were there. I had to try the baklava. It did not disappoint, but it's baklava and was of course very very sweet. My husband had a molten chocolate cake that was also great. I would definitely go back for a nice dinner with my husband or perhaps a good place to go for appetizers and drinks with the girls. I can already see myself ordering the falafel plate and a nice glass of wine next time.

Great place to escape from the concrete jungle to have a relaxing, quality meal in the country.

Meal starts with your choice of bread, which are deliciously warm, fresh baked rolls and luckily they come around often with the bread.

Do yourself a favor and skip the salads.  Both the beet and other salad we had were nothing at all special.  I was starting to lose hope..

    But then the entrees came.
Bf said it was one of the best duck dishes he had ever had.  The barley side dish served with it was delicious.
My dish was phenomenal.  Trout- which I don't usually like- was perfectly prepared and didn't taste fishy at all.  The side dish served with it -- amazing-- vegetable with a cumin flavored hummus.  This was THE best hummus I've ever had in my life.

Entrees were so good, we decided to try dessert.  Made the wrong choice here -- panna cotta -- way too watery from the fruit juices and bland flavor.

    But a solid 4 - even 5 stars for those 2 entrees!

This is a great restaurant with terrific food and a most welcoming host. Serge, the chef, is one of the most professional people I've ever met in a restaurant, and I mean that in the most all encompassing way. The other night he and his brother actually made phone calls to neighboring restaurants to get a group they couldn't seat, dinner somewhere else. Serge is always offering up recipes or tips on cooking.
And the food is great! If there is ever a stew on the special meu, go for it! Although you might not think to order ribs there, they happen to be fantastic. There's still a lot on the menu that I haven't tried, but that's just more to look forward to.
My only (very small) gripe? The desserts are limited, with the sticky chocolate cake being the best, but usually I'm way too stuffed to eat them.

So this is an update of my review on 6/20.

Sadly, Serge (the owner) has decided that the best way to respond to my review is to say in public (as a reply to my review) and in private (in private messages to me) that everything that I said is untrue.  Essentially, calling me a liar.  How very, very sad.

I suppose that Serge will also have to say that the review written by Steven S., who was apparently there the same night we were and who had a similarly less-than-expected experience, must also not be true.  Even though our experiences were absolutely consistent in having received poor service.

The wise restaurant owner would understand that they are in a service business and that is is quite important to listen to the concerns of their clients, understand that caused their concerns, and strive to make changes to minimize any future occurrences.

The arrogant restaurant owner feels justified in criticizing the customer, challenges every complaint and concern that is brought to their attention, refuses to accept any responsibility, and implies that the customer a liar when they have a less than perfect experience.

I would have hoped Serge would have been the former type of owner, but he apparently identifies more with the latter.

Serge, I wish you the best of luck.  I hope that your VIP clients will be sufficient to sustain your restaurant in the future.

Fantastic place to have a great meal, relaxing and friendly atmosphere. The food is always amazing, so as the staff. My favorite place to go out. Highly recommend.

We went on a recommendation and this is a total find in the area. Amazing setting and food that cannot be beat in any major city. Interesting combinations and flavors, lots of fish choices. Many of the ingredients were locally sourced. The prices were a big higher than what we would spend for an average date night, but it was worth every penny. Very romantic.
We had the falafel plate (some of the best we've ever had, and we are falafel snobs) to start. We had spare ribs and a pork chop special - both of which were amazing. For dessert, we split a flour-less chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream.
The whole meal was amazing. We would definitely recommend it and we will definitely go back.

Tonight was my fourth visit and this chef continues to amaze. I am so glad we brought three of our grown children because I was able to taste five different first courses. Each were outstanding, especially the de-constructed falafel. My wife had the scallops and I had the trout, we shared and both were wonderful. we don't usually get desert, but tonight we had the sticky toffee cake - wow.

I will never turn down an offer to eat at Serevan.

Serevan is a jewel of a restaurant in Amenia, NY. While visiting some friends in Kent, CT for the weekend, we crossed the state border and landed in a gold mine. Despite being Mother's Day and fully booked, the restaurant didn't miss a beat in its service and food quality.

I chose the tuna tartar, hand chopped and served on mandolined Persian cucumbers. The patty was subtly seasoned with toasted sesame seed oil, and heaped by finely sliced and lightly dressed fennel bulb. My lady companion had beautifully plump Prince Edward mussels served in coconut milk. Our host chose a lamb stew redolent with Persian limes and served with nutty Basmati rice. The owner chef Serge Madikians mingled among the guests, making small but pleasant conversation.

For a moment, I dreamt I was in the city of Erevan in the country of Armenia.

After the many times having passed Serevan while driving to and from the Salisbury School, my mom and I finally had the chance to experience this delightful restaurant.
We arrived around 6pm on a Friday night and were seated right away (no reservations) near the fireplace...what a treat on a cold January night. After having our drink orders taken the waitress asked if we had been to the restaurant before, which we had not, and told us Serge would stop by to say hello. He came by a couple minutes later to welcome us to his place and chat...a very nice touch which made us quite at home!
The food was delicious and very interesting, as I believe Serge's Armenian heritage played a big part in the menu creation.  I had the diver scallops with brussel sprouts which were seared to perfection while my mom had the rack of lamb with herbed labne.  The lamb really blew us away! It was juicy and flavorful...we couldn't stop soaking up the labne with our extra bread. Our meal ended in true perfection: warm rice pudding with rose water and figs....I swear this meal was heaven sent. And the coffee...it was strong and bold, a great start to our trip back home.
Aside from our meal, Serge stopped to speak with me about culinary school for almost 20 minutes during a full dinner service. He is so passionate about what he does and was excited to share his experience with me.  Thank you Serge and the team at Serevan...we will be back!

This is a very unusual (and extremely good) restaurant. We live in the area and eat out a good bit, and this remains our favorite. Our visiting foodie friends from The City are invariably surprised and impressed at what emanates from the kitchen of this lovely country house. We just wish it were open more nights in the week. The food is, what should I say, Armenian fusion, I guess - but really more than that -  extremely creative cookery by chef Serge Madikian, with his twin brother Ruben in charge of the house ( it took us a while to realize that it wasn't the same person doing everything, like the old Alec Guiness' old movie Kind Hearts and Coronets). Besides the great food, the old house setting is lovely (nice bar, too), and the outdoor seating is great in the summer (walk around their garden for a visual treat as well). Complaints? right now, I can't think of any - on summer week-ends, it can be slow because of the crowds, I guess... What's good? Well, first off, I always devour the specially scented olives that are served with the bread as beginners. The menu changes, but if it's available, I can't resist the falafel platter appetizer. The duck breast, pork chop, scallops, rack of lamb, and salmon with seared skin are all winners as entrees. I can't think of a bad one we've had. The staff is friendly and helpful, and that makes a big difference as well. It is a special place, with special folks.

We went here for our first wedding anniversary. I was willing to try this place again and it was the perfect ending to our anniversary.

As an appetizer, I ate the duck confit with shredded napa cabbage and pomegranate reduction. The meat pulled apart so easily. I was so happy.

Then I had the rack of lamb with herbed labne (strained yogurt) and basmati rice with dates. The lamb was tender and cooked just right. I liked dipping the lamb in the labne. With each bite of the rice, I tasted the sweetness of a date.

For dessert, I had the chocolate-apricot sticky toffee cake.  I was very full, but I felt compelled to take more bites of the rich chocolate dessert.

This was definitely a better experience than I had last time. Since I knew what not to order (the scallops, merguez sausage course and the orange blossom panna cotta), I had a meal that was deeply satisfying.

Outstanding.  Serge is a brilliant chef and an outstanding restauranteur.  My taste buds had a party with every bite! It is so nice to have a chef that understands that food does not require butter and cream to be amazing. This place is an amazing find and would be the very best restaurant wherever it was.

Lives up to the buzz. Beautiful looking place, and I look forward to returning in the cold months to get a table by the fireplace. Cozy atmosphere in the bar room as well. Food seems uniformly excellent. Duck confit starters were perfect. Trout entree, unusually paired with garbonzo beans and hummus, was delicious. My partner's pasta was unremarkable. Sticky toffee cake for dessert was gooey and good. Service was slow the night we visited. The chef, Serge, is very friendly. An enjoyable evening!

Probably fairer to say it was 3.5, but definitely a very pleasant place with good food.  My wife and friends picked me up at the Wassaic train station and we drove the very short distance to Serevan in Amenia.  It is located in a small, comfortable country house--as is fairly typical in these parts.  The food was solid and my halibut entree was very good.  One of my friends ordered the duck and loved it.  If you're in these parts I would strongly recommend.

We've been to this restaurant a number of times over the years. It used to be called Xe Sogni and it was very good. Re-opened as Serevan after an interval of a year or so, the standard of the cuisine is as good as before but the service leaves a lot to be desired.

The restaurant falls apart when busy. Large groups mean other diners recaeive scant attention. They will take too many reservations and not allow enough time between seatings. On our most recent visit we were hustled towards the end of our meal as the next guests were arriving. Not a pleasant experience and not the kind of respectful service one expects from a resetaurant in this price range.

Best restaurant I've been to in the Hudson Valley.  Charming country home atmosphere.  Yummy home baked breads & perfect mixed olives brought to table by country girls in aprons.  Serge, the chef, is a master, esp. his sauces, which are often inspired with fruits.  Fish dishes & filo armenian chicken dish unbelievable! Skip Rhinebeck & Millbrook & go straight to Serevan (near Silo Ridge golf course & West of the traffic light in Amenia).  Ruben (host) & Serge are fun, entertaining restauranteurs.

Awesome...best dining experience in a while. I would rank among the top 10 NYC restaurants, blue hill, db, etc. With middle eastern and french fused techniques the dishes are creative and well balanced.

Well worth the ride from either side of the Hudson, Woodstock to Litchfield.
