In Key Largo for a family vacation and thought we'd try out Sharkies since the reviews seemed to be good
The good; The music was good, obviously they attract some nice local bands and the food was also good. my shrimp was cooked to perfection, the carne asada tacos were okay, and the fish and chips were excellent.4
The bad; Their only large table was full and we had a party of 9 so they sat us out on the picnic benches. They were made out of some weather beaten insect infested wood. I would never set a guest out there for any other reason then to wait for a table.
To drink I had a whiskey sour. I think I tasted whiskey but I couldn't be sure. It was very weak and not worth  even drinking. My brother had a margarita and had the same complaint. Initially I was going to have a beer but the waiter couldn't answer what temperature the beer was kept at. He said somewhere
in the mid 20's. I didn't feel like drinking ice.
my suggestion, go there for the food, don't go for drinks. Only go if you don't have a large party,
Live music, by the canal = a great dive bar. We went on the $5 burger Monday. TVs in the background, breeze a blowin', we tucked down to awesome burgers, with grilled onions and the cheese if your choice. I got a flight of craft beers and really liked the one from HI. Great fries. Â The server was awesome as well.
Review Source:Decent beer menu the night we arrived but since there was a beerfest going on I wasn't surprised. Â We drove through the residential neighborhood and parked in the pot hole filled lot and made our way towards the restaurant. Â We weren't really sure where we were supposed to go but its the Keys and everything is weird there. Â We decided to head upstairs and sit in a booth. Â We weren't terribly hungry but went ahead and ordered the conch fritters and mahi mahi. Â The server mentioned the calamari was good and asked if we wanted to try it but we said we would wait and see how hungry we were after the other apps. Â He brought it anyway and did charge us for it. Â We were not up for a fight so we just dealt. Â The fried selections were just OK. Â The conch fritters were mostly dough but decent enough and the calamari was dry. Â The mahi mahi was perfect... Wish we ordered more of that. Â We would go back here only because the choices in Key Largo are few and far between but it would never be a place we have to stop at on our way to Key West.
Review Source:Hard-to-find Key Largo watering hole tucked away off a canal.
Almost gave up but finally found this small bar off a side street on the east side of the Overseas Highway. Outdoor seating area overlooks a deepwater canal with many pleasure and charter boats passing by. Patrons appeared to be a mix of locals and tourists fresh off of diving and fishing charters. Food was so-so but happy hour specials were great here. Service was a little bizarre. The dude who waited on us was either buzzed or maybe it was his first day. Personally I kinda think it may have been a little of both which made for a oddly humorous experience with us and some of the other patrons.
Go here for the alcohol, atmosphere and people-watching. Menu items are forgettable
My brother, a Key Largo local, took me here for the first time. Â It's not viewable from Overseas Highway, so you would definitely miss it if you didn't know it was there. Â The atmosphere is very relaxed and the tuna is great. Â We get that every time we go. Â There is no sense of urgency with the service, but is that really a bad thing? Â Goes right along with the whole, laid-back Keys vibe.
Review Source:First off this is place has a great location! If that is what you are looking for definitely the place to go. Otherwise if you want friendly people decent service... there are what 9 or so other places in the area to go. ok food. forgettable service. I noticed on my credit card statement compared to my receipt that our server decided to create his own tip. not much that i would call to complain... watch your receipts.
Review Source:alright.... let me explain something to you. there must be about only say 10 bars in all of key largo?? (thats a high estimate, mind you)
is the food good? greasy and normal. hey, im from new york. i expect my food to be friggin amazing. this place is good. not fantastic
are the drinks good?
pretty strong, so id say yes!
theres a pool table. a juke box and a live band early on some nights.
this is a great place for a late night drink before your dive the next day.
take a walk on the board walk. then come back. get another drink. and enjoy yourself! youre probably on vacation if youre there. and if youre a regular... then you probably know the place way better than i do
The best dive bar in Key Largo. Â We stayed at the Holiday Inn Key Largo last year and the best memories we had were heading to Sharkys every night for the icey cold beer and wine. Â And what about the locals? Â The nicest folks in town, eager to give and dispense personal rants and raves on where to go, what to do, and where to avoid getting ripped off. Â We can vow that the appetizers of sushi or fish are absolutely the freshest and best. Do yourself a favor and hit the Happy Hour for the fairest prices in Key Largo. Â Will be back again!
