I guess I was too quick to give out my 4 stars because SB&G really disappointed me today. Â I was craving sushi but the lady boss wasn't feeling like sushi so I suggested SB&G since I want to try more items on their menu anyway. Â She was interested in trying out the gyro and I wanted to see if their gyro is any different than before (I didn't like them before) so I chose the gyro and she wanted their Oriental Chicken Salad.
I picked up my togo order and as soon as I opened the boxes, I knew I wasn't going to be enjoying my lunch. Â As I was prepping the paper plates, I told my boss "food doesn't look good at all" with a sad face and she tried to be optimistic by replying with "well, it sure smells good!". Â Then I also realized, one thing I've always commended them on was their overstocked togo cutlery and condiments. Â They usually always provide a small paper bag with plastic cutlery and packets of mayo and ketchup that I rarely use and napkins. Â This time, nothing was prepared at all but luckily we had our own at the office.
First, the Oriental Chicken Salad was nothing oriental besides the dressing and a few crispy wonton chips. Â The lettuce was basic chopped up iceberg lettuce, a few diced tomatoes, slivered almonds and some grilled chicken on the side. Â My boss and I both use dressing sparingly when we order salads but since the container was only half full for a full salad, neither of us thought we had enough dressing. Â However..although it still didn't taste the best, it didn't taste as bad as I imagined. Â The dressing was alright; edible and the chicken was tasty, I loved the grill marks. Â The togo menu said this salad was $9 but I think it was about $10-$11 and for that price, I'd much rather order a salad at Dos Coyotes where it's premium lettuce piled on with a ton of ingredients and more dressing than you can handle.
Then came the gyro. Â You can choose a side; fries or a salad, so I chose fries since we already had another salad. Â I'm a bit sad that they don't offer homemade chips anymore, which was one good thing the old place used to have going on. Â The thin cut fries were old and soggy and came with a tub of ketchup and ranch. Â I thought the ranch was tzaziki until I smelled it. Â Where was the tzaziki?! Â One of my favorite things about eating a gyro is the tzaziki and there was BARELY any to be seen on the gyro. Â The pita looked and was dry and was cracking and falling apart. Â However, again, this item also tasted better than it looked (so it looked like crap but tasted okay). Â The meat looked dry but wasn't as dry as expected. Â The tomatoes and red onions really helped. Â However, I think the gyro was better before than it is now, meaning I will never order it again.
Perhaps it's just a case of poor choices today. Â I'd still try other items on the menu before drastically changing my rating again. Â Side note: they've taken pasta off their menu and added a long list of hot dogs!
The worst wings we have ever had! The wife ordered Parm/garlic and it came out with buffalo sauce as well! When we complained, cook came out and was rude saying they will never have the sauce as the previous Wings and Rings. Boneless wings were obviously frozen and tasted like it. Fries came out cold and over cooked. Wont be back.
