Being on vacation we looked to Yelp to provide us with suggestions on where to go. The previous review wasn't bad, and based on their online menu it looked like Shucker's was going to be a good place to go, as it offered a variety of options for our large group of 12.
I called ahead and asked to make a reservation. They said they didn't take reservations, but they asked what time we would be arriving and how many we had so that they could "be prepared." So, when we showed up at 6:30 we were expecting a little bit of a wait, but they sat us right down at our table. The night was off to a good start.
However, from there, everything went downhill. Yes, it was a Saturday night and yes, there was a band playing so it was pretty crowded. But no substitutions or changes to any of our orders were able to be made because there was a "concert" that night. I asked for shrimp instead of chicken in my nachos. Not a huge change, but not allowed.
Our waitress failed to communicate with us. She kept forgetting to bring people their drinks. From what we can figure, she lost our ticket and did her best to guess at what we had ordered, because when our food showed up 2 hours later, half of it was wrong. She "dropped" one of the shrimp baskets on the way out, and miraculously was able to produce another in less than 5 minutes. At one point during our 2 hour wait she did provide us with some free mahi-mahi dip. Which was nice, but too little too late.
During our wait for food, a number of people (and big groups, 6-10) arrived, received food, paid and left. So, the majority of our bad experience was due to our waitress and her inability to let us know what was going on.
Once our food arrived, it was a disappointment. The Mahi-Mahi Sandwhich was so small, the $14 shrimp basket had 8 shrimp in it, the french fries were cold, there was hardly anything in my nacho basket besides chips. Obviously, we were expecting to pay more than usual because we are by the beach and on vacation, but it was NOT worth the price. At all.
But even dinner wasn't the worst part. We waited nearly another hour for her to process (and screw up) our checks. She had stuff on our checks that no one at the table ordered, and drinks no one had ever seen. She messed up one couple's check, and they let her know. But she never returned with a fixed check, and after the awful experience, they decided not to let her know and left without paying. I don't blame them. We weren't her only table that had issues either. Two other tables behind us were complaining and experiencing the same issues as well.
If you're looking to over-spend for food that isn't anything special, then this is place to go. Our group all agreed that had we been seated with a different waitress/waiter who was more attentive and provided us our drinks when we asked, it could have been fun. But it wasn't.
I can't believe this hole in the wall hasn't been Yelped yet. The bar/restaurant is located right off the Warf shopping mall/condo's/entertainment complex. No doubt a project still struggling to get off the ground.
Though Shuckers has the good taste remain independent of that disaster. Shuckers is a laid back restaurant that serves the coldest beer I've ever had. The wait staff is quick, way to quick, for I was ordering way before I sat down.
My order of tasty oysters led me to the trigger fish club sandwich. Had I known trigger fish was edible years ago, I would have looked to catch them instead of the accidental catch. What I'm saying is what a delicious fish. The sandwich was super huge and everything came together well.
This is defiantly a place to listen to the music, stare out at the water and kick back.
