Owner is rude, unprofessional, and ruined the first half of my surprise party. I had family and friends there to greet me, but as I walk through the door all I see is this guy cursing and yelling at the hostess. Then he is so mean to my wife she bursts into tears. He is VERY LUCKY I didn't see that first hand... in the end the other staff were good, and the food was only okay. There are many places at the shore, so GO ELSEWHERE.
Review Source:BEWARE!!! I recommend never to book an event here. We booked a party weeks in advance with the event manager. Â The day of the event, the back room we were told we were to be in was given to another party and our party was set up in the regular eating area with the regular patrons. Â We were never told about it until we arrived with no explanation and there was never any obloquies by the owner. Â We then bit the bullet without any squabble. When our party wanted separate checks, the Owner then appeared and was very nasty about the fact we couldn't do separate checks and told me if I didn't like it I could go somewhere else. I couldn't walk out with 20 guest for a surprise party, this became my worst nightmare! He never apologized for the fact that he moved our party and now he is being nasty to me? This is no way to run a business in this type of Economy! In all my years of booking parties and eating out (we eat out several times a week) Â I have never seen this type of behavior. Â The food is below average as well. Â I was so very disappointed and embarrassed as this all went down in front of my guest. Â So unprofessional. Â The Simko's Grill gets no stars from me.
Review Source:Surprisingly delicious food! We ordered something of a Prix Fixe... and none of us (all 5 of us) had no complaints about the food. Our only complaint, it took 20 minutes for our waitress to take our order, and it wasn't busy at all. I almost think that they forgot that we were sitting in the back window room maybe? But it can't be because they brought us drinks. Even more odd was our dinners came as we were still eating our appetizers. So it went to no service at all to way too fast service. Really strange. We also had two people serving us. The waitress had no personality, and the waiter had tons. Still gets 4 stars because the food was really, really good.
If I could give 3.5 stars I would.
If you plan to dine here with family, don't be turned off by these other reviews. Â Good food, friendly service, and our waitress was great with kids (over-energetic as they were). Â Wine was good as well, and the menu had a very large selection to accommodate a plethora of different diners. Â All in all a nice experience. Â The only fault I saw was the service wasn't the fastest. Â Took about 25 minutes for my Cesar wrap to get here. Â It was very good though.
Review Source:Not gonna lie. Â When I first got inside I thought it was basically just a larger diner with a bar. Got the standard water and basket of bread then ordered.
Luckily I went against my instinct and didn't play it safe with the typical cheeseburger. This place is legit and can prepare some decent food. I had a chicken with pasta that was great and shrimp spring rolls for an appetizer.
The waiter was cool and the price wasn't bad for a night out.
In all it's just the decor that throws you off since you're in a beachy area like Brielle. I'll go back when I'm in that area.
We have been customers of Simko's for a while now. The food is always amazing, and the service is usually great too at the one in Brick, so we decided to try out the Brielle location. We were there for my 85 year old grandmother's birthday, we waited for our food for almost 2 hours. The waitress and the manager were standing around talking, and not once did they come over and apologize or offer us drinks or even an explanation as to why our food was taking so long. If it weren't for my grandmother, we would have just gotten up and walked out. I will never eat at this Simko's again. Disgusting.
Review Source:Takes too long for server to get to us, I think the server had too many tables, so it wasn't her fault, but nevertheless it reflects poorly on the restaurant. Â Drinks service was slow (again, the server... maybe she was new?) but food was ok, not great, but just ok. Â For the price and ambiance, I thought it would have been better.
Review Source:After a long 3 hour drive, we were in need of a quick dinner. Â I found this place on yelp and we stopped in because its only a minute from my Grandparent's house. Â I love this side of town and will have to come explore next time we're in town. Â Simko's has a bar side and a restaurant side. Â The hostess greeted us and said we could place our order with her. Â We each chose the grilled chicken salad. Â I of course had a bunch of special requests (bacon and egg on the side and salsa for dressing). Â It took about 10 min to get our salads and they got the special requests correct, but forgot the avocado on both of our salads. Â Avocado was the reason we chose these salads. Â Unfortunately, we didn't realize it until we were back at my Grandparent's and were way too hungry to go back or complain. Â The salad was good and hit the spot, but make sure you check your takeout order!
Review Source:My drinking partner, Toot, and I stopped in here because we are always on a mission to boldly go to bars where we have not ventured before. Sometimes we hit, sometimes we miss. Unfortunately Simkos has to go down as a miss.
We ordered an order of fried Calamari app at the barmaids suggestion, as she bragged they were the best she's ever had. Well she hasn't had very good calamari as this was about the worst I've ever had. Granted it's a tricky dish but that's no excuse for this chewy, tasteless version. Meh!
We both had burgers that were OK, but not cooked to our specifications at all. Why ask us how we want it when they both come out very well done as opposed to medium and medium rare?
The barmaid was otherwise friendly and attentive. There was a much older crowd here on our visit, both at the large bar and in the adjacent dining room.
With so many great places in Brielle right on the Manasquan River (see The Sand Bar) I doubt we would ever go back.
It is not and I don't believe to pretend to be a high end food establishment. It has decent food, many TVs for your sports and news. I do find the regular bar people are not all that friendly..... almost like if your not in the regular click they keep to themselves, it just may be my feelings but it kinda of reminded me of old school days...It is a good place for last minute place with a good size group of people. Â Nice place for a shower in the conservertory or a good size party.
Review Source:I never would have known this place existed, had it not been for Due Amici overbooking itself down the street, and forcing out customers with reservations on Christmas Eve. Â Upset that our traditional Chirstmas Eve dinner was in jeopardy, we hoped Simko's would salvage the night...
It did. Â This place is going to become a family tradition for us. Â They were about to close, but when we we showed up and told them our story, they stayed open for us. Â Service was warm and very accomodating. Â
We sat right next to a cozy fireplace in the bar area, very memorable. Â There were 10 of us, including a toddler, and we had an awesome time (definitely a great family restaurant). Â The pasta was good, I had a steak which was good, and the fish dishes were all very good too. Â Appetizers were standard-fare for a family-type bar restaurant, and they hit the spot. Â Cold beer, and GREAT desserts (just see the dessert tray... even if you're full. Â Indulge, why not!).
Maybe we'll come here when football season kicks in again, they show all the games and they have satellite audio pods so you can listen to the sound of any game you want. Â We'll definitely come back next Christmas Eve.
Simko's pretends to be a family restaurant but fails. It's large and noisy and seems to be frequented by the worst crowd the area has to offer. The food is nothing to get excited about either. I pass there often (pass being the operative word) and am always amazed at how many people will accept mediocrity.
I'd recommend staying away.
Best place in the area to get fresh seafood dinners. Â The chicken dishes are also outstanding - very well prepared. Â
The main dining area is family and group friendly, while the bar dining caters more to couples, and smaller parties. Â Tons of TV's for the sports fans, never miss an event. Â Maintains an upscale yet casual bar atmosphere while not actually being a sports bar. Â Caters to special events, Kentucky Derby, Championship games, etc.
I stepped in here during my time in New Jersey for a quick bite.
I thought the place even smelled new and it turns out I was right..
What a huge menu... but they had some nice lunch specials available that I decided to partake from.
I had the pulled pork sandwich... not bad, a little dry for my taste but it hit the spot. The fries, which are very important in my book were passable, but not good enough for me to stuff my face with.
My dining buddy had the supreme nachos which seemed to be mighty tasty since she took down the whole wall of them.
I like this place, I'd like to hit it up for brunch, the price seems to good to pass up. 17$ for a chocolate fountain, carving station and omelet station... why not?!
Avoid. This place attempts to tap into the family restaurant market by serving inoffensive offerings like burgers, sandwiches and pasta dishes. Boring menu, bland dishes. The Charlie Brown's nearby does a better job--and that's saying a lot.
But it's clean and there's ample seating, and I imagine this could be a good place to take picky kids.
