Very cozy, little dive bar, dark atmosphere, several little round candle lit tables with comfy chairs and few a tv's. Also has a large patio area with several 4 top tables and misters for when it's exceptionally hot. Drinks are well priced and the staff is okay. I came in on a Sunday evening and it wasnt too busy. They have a dinner menu that seemed like a good deal. Someone was playing the Riteous Brothers on the juke box which was a little cheesy, but over all it was someplace I'd visit again.
Review Source:This was my first time and I loved the atmosphere here and the food was good.. I would have given a better rating BUT my server, Sally, was a witch with a capital B!! Today I left my first 10% tip ever in my life, which after being a server for over 5 years, goes against everything I stand for! I usually make every excuse in the book to give a server the benefit of the doubt but she was flat out rude!!! I doubt that I will be going back!!
Review Source:Almost has that dive bar in Vegas feel...I keep expecting Ray Liotta to pop up and grab a drink. Not that it's a bad thing, i like that its a chill spot. No frills, no fuss with decently priced drinks and a spacious patio to smoke. I only ate there recently when I stopped in for the Wednesday taco night. Pretty good ground beef tacos, really filling for an amazing deal. I also ordered a side of garlic bread, the chili cheese dog, and a patty melt. Nothing horrible maybe not the best but you can't beat their prices. It seems they have regulars mostly an older crowd taking advantage of the deals. Service is so so, informal and kind of pushy when busy but its a dive bar so I'm not expecting much.
Review Source:Whats not to like about inexpensive drinks and  large portions of food. Yes it's a dive bar in a good way. I've been here several times at different times of the week. Usually busy when it's taco Wed's.
The bartenders are pretty friendly and quick to serve. Its a fun neighborhood bar with a patio to hangout on.
My wife Gloria really doesn't like to come here, except they do allow smoking on the patio. Since she doesn't car for the food that much, I come here more often alone or with a friend or Client for lunch. The shrimp cocktail is very good, and inexpensive.; Sure the service and presentation won't rival Morton;'s, but the price is reasonable servers are friendly, and the local clientele has been coming here for years. Some of them are quite entertaining. I've even seen former District attorneys, judges, and other BTOs, (Big Time Operators, well self-described), here over the years.
Still a safe bet when you're hungry for a good steak and good service.
Dark and dirty - a fine spot to come enjoy a drink at the END of the evening, but definitely not a place to start. Menu consists of 10 or so standards, none of which are good, but better than drinking on an empty stomach. Staff is moderately friendly and prices are reasonable. Not bad, but definitely not good!
Review Source:The Sire is a clean, comfortable divey sort of joint that has friendly staff, friendly customers and excellent, low priced food. Â Be sure to try the bay shrimp cocktail and the French dip sandwich (get it with onions and cheese). Â The steak and prime rib dinner specials will knock your socks off! You will be disappointed!
Review Source:We enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace, Dehlia our waitress and the food was pretty good. The bar wasn't too full and my husband was pleased to see football playing on the TVs. We plan to go again on prime rib night...Tuesdays or Fridays for our next visit. Btw, the drinks were strong, but I'm not complaining!
Review Source:Me and my sister have been going to the Sire for years. It's everything the youngsters say about it and YES there are oldsters there early in the evening. We used to be the youngsters that closed the place down 40 years ago! I always see a familiar face in the dark shadows of the bar and love the outdoor patio.
The top sirloin is great, the prime rib is yummy and the waitresses, Sally and Jessica are AWESOME~ You can't beat the Sire for dinner and drinks for two UNDER $30. But don't forget to pass what you save on to the waitress, she deserves it~
The back patio is like sitting in someone's backyard, which is why I love it. There is much more of a "hang out and chill" vibe than a "hook up" one, which is a much-appreciated quality in a bar. Great place to catch up with friends, but friendly enough to make new ones as well. Stiff, inexpensive drinks. Fantastic bartenders who will ply you with alcohol and make you laugh as well.
Review Source:this is my spot.  seriously.  of all the places in riverside, this is my absolute favorite.  it's dark, you can eat/smoke on the patio (even in the dead of winter), and the drinks are super strong.  AND they have  racetrack theme, complete with portraits of horses adorning the faux wood paneled dining room.  the menus are designed like track tickets and they have a huge neon horseshoe sign.
they also have the best prime rib outside of vegas, every tuesday and friday for $11.95. Â my friend d and i go here every, single tuesday night got the prime rib. Â it's the best part of our week. we sit outside (even in the dead of winter) and smoke cigarettes and gorge ourselves on red meat. i mean, it's HUGE. Â we don't even eat all day so that we can finish the whole thing. Â
did i mention the drinks are strong? Â they are. Â you don't get some shady pour. Â they also make frozen, blended melonballs. Â i defy you to name one other bar that would even think to do that. Â it's ok...i'll wait...
the service is awesome. Â the ladies that work there always take care of us. Â be warned that they are no-nonsense type of gals, but as long as you tip and are polite they are wonderful. Â
also, the atmosphere is super laid back. Â you don't have to dress up. Â you don't have to worry about impressing anyone. Â you just have to like good food and good times. and race horses.
OMG!! Â this place is such a DIVE-you gotta' go at least once to experience the fact that such a place still exists...
It smells like spilled beer and cigarette smoke from years past--I think it's ingrained in the walls - in fact I'm sure it is, as smoking inside has been outlawed for years
Don't order wine-it's awful--don't know about any thing else--the food was fine---the old gal waiting on us was a hoot...YES-do go at least ONCE!
It's hard to judge a place you have only been to once stayed a max of 30 minutes. Â Guess what, I am about to do this very thing. Â Sire Restaurant in Riverside, despite such a limited exposure to this place, I think I was able to get the vibe of what they are all about.
This visit was based on the promise of a beer and what I assume would be a good story or two from a buddy of mine. Â The stories were plentiful but the beer selection seemed to be lacking. Â I don't know if I'm a snob, afraid to try new things or deep down inside I really just don't enjoy the taste of beer. Â The sire went 0-2 in the beer selection. Â I asked for a Hefeweizen and was rejected, fine I settled on a Heineken, they both start with H, they must be similar ;) Â My friend got a similar answer; I don't remember what he wanted or what he settled on.
Who cares? Â I have come to realize lately that it not so much the food or drink that makes a place but the atmosphere and the company that can make an experience. Â So despite the lack of beer selection (at least at this particular time), the Sire seemed like a cool little spot. Â Everyone seemed pretty chill and was pretty much there to enjoy the atmosphere and the company.
I did hear some good stories and told one or two of my own and had a good time, even though we were only there for about a half hour. Â I think I would hit this place up for a few more drinks a few more stories and the $6.95 steak special did look pretty tempting.
Stumbled upon this funky retro restaurant: walking in from the bright sunshine into the dark interior felt like going back in time a few decades...very cool! Older crowd on the evening we dined, very cheap prices for drinks & prime rib, and Johnny Cash on the jukebox. Could have stayed a lot longer - will be back on another night when I'm in the area.
Review Source:I just moved to Riverside a few weeks ago. Â I was a bit disappointed with the nightlife options, but was really excited to find this little place. Â First, and most importantly, I can walk home from here if needed. Â I say that's a win right there. Â But then you add good service, cheap drinks, a lovely patio, Â and fun patrons to the mix, and that makes for a nice go-to local spot.
Review Source:Finally - an outdoor patio in the IE that is NOT associated with a shopping mall!  We consider ourselves dive bar aficionados and this is a GREAT find.  I know-it's been here for a long time; we are just late to the party. Regardless, we are glad we are finally here.  We thoroughly enjoyed the Saturday night special and some tasty sociable beverages.  The clientele is a great mix of old and new (and tatted) all  good for conversation.  Yes - the prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back.
Review Source:This bar has everything you could possibly need. Strong drinks, good company and great atmosphere. Best dive bar in the IE. I come here often and catch up with the bartenders and you can bet you will run into a familiar face. Whether it is Taco Wednesday or Prime Rib Friday you can count on some surprisingly good food! And you can't bet the prices! Plus they have a killer jukebox that you can find pretty much any song on so that is the icing on the cake. It's close enough for me to ride my bike and they have an awesome patio that can seat several people. This place gets packed like you can't imagine and I can see why. The crowd keeps the bartenders on there toes but they still take the time to chat it up with the customers. This is a great bar to come and chill at...no drama and just some cool people.
Review Source:Small bar with a nice inviting, warm atmosphere. Â Long bar with lots of seating as well as a large outdoor patio with heaters and tables with umbrellas. Â They make the best dirty martini I have had in quite a while. Â Very reasonable drink prices and good company. Â The jukebox is one of the new fandangle internet ones which I like because I can usually find exactly what I want to hear.
The bathroom is very clean and has a large vanity mirror for those vain moments we all have. Â
I plan to go back soon!
My favorite bar in riverside, hands down..
The good: cheap strong drinks, easy going atmosphere (especially if u sit outside) and service is pretty good. Ooo also their taco Wednesday is a great deal, I highly recommend going there on Wednesday night.
The bad: kilarneys is a little over a mile away so u might see a bro or two on your way to and from the sire.
The ugly: some of the patrons are kinda old earlier on in the night.
Got invited to this place for a few drinks.
It is definitely not a dive bar i'd expect out of riverside... definitely my kind of dive bar though.
Simple layout with a few tables, darkwood bar, fireplace and TVs playing games that are on. Outside seating area is almost like a coffee shop. You have someone going around taking orders while you enjoy a conversation and a warm riverside night.
Look for Aaron at the bar, he knows how to make a stiff drink. They're super cheap too compared to lounges in orange county. Bring a couple friends, a few good stories to share, and you're good for hours.
Hmm...well, the sire has it's charms.
The beers are pretty well priced (about $3.75) but there are no specials or happy hour EVER (bummer, right?).
The outside patio is spacious and comfortable, and the waitresses are very attentive. I never go more than a couple minutes with an empty drink. if you go back enough, they start to remember your name and your order, which is nice and makes you feel like you are at home when you go there.
All in all, a nice quiet bar out of the downtown scene that you can go when you just want to relax with a drink and smoke some cigarettes. this place is true riverside.
Yes, fellow yelpers....The Sire is "A-OK!"
Giant neon horseshoe sign to beckon you inside - check
Dive bar - check
40 - 50+ crowd - check
Retro (or more likely, original) pleather chairs circa 1977 - check
Dim lighting and wood paneling - check
B list alcohol - check
Modern computer touch screen juke box offering tunes from likes of Johnny Cash and the Steve Miller Band to Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga - check, check!
All the makings of a good time are at your finger tips!
My sister goes to school in Riverside and the Sire was one of our stops in celebration of her 21st birthday. Let me say that the bar scene choices in Riverside are limited...but the Sire turned out to be a good old time! Let's just say we started off the evening at the Yard House and were feeling pretty happy by the time we arrived at the giant neon horseshoe in the sky. We kept our momentum up by throwing back a few shots...we started with a kamikaze, threw down an alabama slammer and followed with a purple hooter chaser. The waitress got the picture and offered up her own personal suggestion....wait for it. Wait for it..."How bout a red headed slut honey?" A what??? Oh, yeah! We're totally down. Â And guess what? The red headed slut was the evening favorite! Â Thanks waitress at the Sire.
As a connoisseur of dive bars the Sire is at the top of my list.
I love the wood paneling, cozy fireplace, and reasonably priced drinks. If you're looking for a bar that has the typical "riverside scene," the Sire is NOT for you. The vibe is always very chill and friendly. It really is everything that you come to expect & love in a great dive bar.
If you're looking for a spot to get a drink with friends in the riverside area, this place should be on the top of your list.
Taco Wednesday's are the S#%t. You will get hooked. They are like crack and 75 cents. The place gets crowded but it turns over pretty fast. If they could make the inside as big as the outside and bring in a dj they would own Wednesday's in the Inland Empire. It has the strangest mix of people you will ever see. A must see and enjoy. The staff give top notch customer service. Don't expect to meet any hot girls and you won't be dissappointed.
Review Source:Yeah. Â This place blends. Â You can't miss it. Â The sire is like the Chunti bar near my place, in Fullerton; the one that has the ridiculous spotlight out on Fridays and Saturdays. Â Instead of the spotlight, they have a gigantic neon-yellow horseshoe that glows brightly like one of the lights used to zap mosquitoes, beckoning in the drunken and the weary for that good, good drink.
In all. Â Very cool place. Â They have a good 'regular' crowd. Â I have a feeling the older ladies will give you the business end of their hush puppies if you step out of line. Â No, Hush puppies is not a euphemism.
Well and domestic drinks are cheaper than your uncle Rico! Â Seriously. Â I could totally take your dad here, get him drunk, take advantage of him and he'd get change back after it's all said and done. Â (I'm trying to work in the dad jokes, kids).
I bought a painting of a man on a horse at a thrift store in Upland. As I was waiting in line to pay for it, the woman in front of me turned around.
"Do you think that's a Shoemaker?" She said.
"What?" I said right back, like all up in her face.
"Do you think that's Shoemaker?"
"Is that the painter? I don't know."
"No, Willie Shoemaker. Do you keep up with the races?"
"What?"
"The horse races."
"No, I don't, I'm mainly buying it to use the frame."
"Oh, well, I think that's Willie Shoemaker. He was a jockey from around here. My stepfather used to be a jockey as well, but he died when a horse fell on him."
Her husband verified that it was indeed a portrait of Willie Shoemaker, who rode his horse all around Santa Ana. If you walk into the Sire and turn to your left, you can see his mug right there.
I'd pretty much call this place the best dive bar in Riverside because when you go here there's a helluva lotta dive, and a helluva lotta Riverside. They have a Derby/horse racing theme going, and it's probably the place to be for Derby weekend (not counting Louisville). Drinks are cheap and fairly stiff and there's almost always something vaguely inappropriate going on.
There's seating indoors with a very low ceiling and thick hotel carpet, I like this, and there's lots of patio seating, too. All my friends are smokers so I find myself stuck outside a lot. It's also right next door to the Golden Ox so you can just go over there, pass out in your car, and wake up for breakfast. No one will hassle you, I swear. I'm just kidding. You'll get robbed.
This is the very first place Rinehammer ever used his California ID and he was very proud. And just say NO! to the shrimp cocktail.
I really like this place. Â It's a very chill atmosphere, which is what I like. Â The lighting is nice dim candle lighting, the drinks are cheap, and the service is very good. Â They also have an internet juke box, which is nice, but I paid $1 for one song and it never played in the hours that I was there. Â Other than that this place is great and I'll be going back again and again.
Review Source:This is my old man's bar and is now a place I frequent. Â Pops still kicks it here and so do all his construction buds. Â This place is pure R-side legacy.
They have great food specials (burger, steak, tacos, shrimp cocktails) that usually come out to be $2. Â Whisky-Cokes come with Jim, not Jack, so take note, youngsters.
The juke box IS good. In fact, it owns. Â Its original, pure dad-rock.
Pepito's used to be this cool back in the 80s til the mob got the place shut down.
Tell em Bigfoot and Little Jerl sent ya.
I love this place.
This is a perfect place to go to when you want to have drinks with no drama and no kids. Â I spend time here once a week. I love the fact that I do not have to worry about running into clients here. The drinks and friendliness of the servers and patrons make this place a "cheers."
My husband loves the food here, I don't.
My favorite bar in Riverside. Look for the giant horseshoe!
A great bar for getting drunk with a close group of friends. Outdoor patio for the smokers and the lovers of Riverside's concrete jungle. The indoor bar is just slightly dumpy, a perfect spot for bar flys with a wicked juke box full of classic rock and old country tunes. Â Serves a limited selection of food, including a hamburger served with a baked potatoes (no fries). Perfectly fine for bar food but nothing special.
Most importantly, strong drinks and cheap prices. No frills, just a quiet place for to get drunk and cry over your lost lover. The awesome, if not particularly friendly, waitresses are on top of things, and keep the drinks flowing.
Crowd is a good mix of old-timers and young people.
Reminds me of my favorite dive bar in my hometown of Mississippi. Â If that doesn't sound appealling to you, you probably should be hanging out somewhere closer to UCR campus.
Love The Sire.  Love it!  Tiny stand-alone bar randomly on Magnolia.  When my friend first took me there, I expected some medieval theme, because of the name.  But it's  really themed around horse racing (horseshoes, sire... duh me). Â
Lots to locals there--bros and ex-road pirates--which makes it an interesting scene. Â Not many college students (thank god). Â
Drinks are cheap. Â Jim Beam and coke was 3 bucks. Â Food is less than spectacular. Â Burgers are decent. Â Their $2 shrimp cocktail consists of those little baby shrimp from the can; what do you expect for $2?
All-in-all, good place to go throw a few back with the pals. Â Also, rad juke box.
