I wanted to like this place because the name is pretty funny and the atmosphere was awesome but the food was expensive with small portions and most of it was cold by the time we got it. The server was nice and our water was refilled but our food took about an hour to come out. What made us check it out was the happy hour sign outside that had $3 drinks. We went in around 6:45 and when we ordered drinks at the bar we were told happy hour was over and ended at 7. We sucked it up and paid full price anyway. On our way out we looked at the sign and clearly on both sides it said happy hour 6-8pm.
Review Source:I was VERY diappointed. I paid $15 for a bucket drink that was all juice and practically no alcohol. I didn't even get to keep the bucket. The barntender started a tab then  closed it  before i could finish my first drink because she was 'going home.' They messed up my order and had to redo it which happens sometimes, but my friends were nearly halfway done before I got my meal. Finally we went during happy hour so my well drink should have been $4. I even checked with the waitress that my drink counted as a well drink and got the green light. When I got my bill I was charged $11
for a marguerita in a 8 oz plastic cup with no salt. When.I questioned it the waitress promised to fix it. But when the new bill returned she took off $2 because she accidently pressed the 'on the rocks' button. I was so agrevated. If I could give less than a star I would.
I had my bach party in Montauk 6/6 - 6/9 and without any doubt, hands down to Sloppy Tuna. Great music, DJ rocks. Â I had the best time of my life. Â All my friends from CA, Miami, and NYC had an amazing time here. Â Thursday started off with Ladies night and $2 drinks. We actually ended up here 3 nights in a row. Â We didn't go upstairs until the 3rd night and it was open air. Â I'll have to go there again during the daytime parties and to eat.
Review Source:My friend and aren't fans of overly crowded places, so we rolled in on a Thursday early eve around 7-o'clock just as a storm was approaching (about 3-4 hours before "Ladies Night, $2 Drink Specials" started). We sat ourselves on the second floor deck (inside) and had the nicest bartender imaginable: Jeannie (ask her to make you a drink and she will, but don't ask her to make Strawberry Mudslides** (they don't exist) opt for the traditional frozen mudslide--it'll knock you on your ass---I had 4 (or five, maybe six, I lost count at three).
The view of the ocean and her beauty from the outside deck is one of the better views-from-a-restaurant-in-Montauk and the sea breeze reminds you why you left the city in the first place---clean air and the Atlantic Ocean.
The food/drinks are not over-priced (like most of Montauk) and the drinks flow from what seems like a natural spring from the heavens. Frozen drinks are plentiful; the mudslides (remember the mudslides?) and BBC's (Banana, Baily's Colada's) are liquor'd-up and keep you cool (or drunk) on a hot summer's day---however, if you drink too much, "Sloppy" is what you'll be--so pace yourself, kids.
Extra goodness: Friendly staff, bartenders, managers, and bouncers.
Authors note:
**Apparently a guy described as having so many muscles he couldn't put his arms down, came in asking for strawberry mudslides (and then getting visibly upset that they've never heard or them). C'mon, guys! Frozen drinks come from a machine and are premixed--that my friends, is common sense. (Unless of couse you see and/or hear blenders, then you can ask for à -la-carte for your drink ingredients.)
Walk from the beach to the bar and get Sloppy (but don't be a d*ck).
This place is absolutely terrible!!! First we waited about 30 minutes for our drinks and then another hour and a half for our food that came out entirely overcooked and wrong. The waitstaff and managers continuously apologized for the terrible service with the excuse that it was the first day they opened this season. Why would a restaurant have their opening on a Saturday afternoon during memorial day weekend, one of the busiest weekends of the summer? Everything was totally disorganized and the food was either overcooked or completely burnt. The owner eventually came over and said they would "take care" of our bill however what I really wanted were the last 3 hours of my life back and something good to eat. I refuse to ever go there again.
***This is 100% NOT a fake review despite the owner's response. This review was originally posted during memorial day in 2012 but because I was harassed by a Sloppy Tuna Employee on Yelp and wrote her name in my old review, Yelp removed my review. I think it's important that people know what kind of establishment this is. I reposted the review without the employee's name so that everyone knows what they are getting themselves into. The owner's comment is just a little insight of the kind of people that run this place.
PS: Why would anyone go out of their way to write a "fake" negative review. That doesn't make sense. The Sloppy Tuna is just plain SLOPPY if you ask me.
Loved this place as Nick,s and was pretty apprehensive at first as to how it was going to turn out. Sooooo glad they kept some of the same staff, as that was always a huge draw for us. Good live music, great view, and one of the only bars truly on the beach. The food was food, neither terrible or the best we've had. We really go there to drink, and that's where they excel. Great bar service, super friendly bartenders, and usually a great atmosphere. Ladies Nights get a little crowded for us, but if you like the party, they bring it. Our favorite thing? Goldfish races!!! What a great idea!
Review Source:The jersey shore crowd has found montauk! Â Visited during LDW on sat afternoon and upon arrival, first words from husband " no way, it looks too douch-ey in there" and i replied "yes and the guidettes that love them". Â Went to mtk beachouse instead. Â Did return on mon afternon (after the Affliction wearing crowd left town) to have a drink and it was ehh, opted for lunch at Gurneys instead!
Review Source:Screw you guys, I really liked this place.
Went here for lunch after a long morning of drinking wine on the beach lol. It was nearly empty at 11:30ish, so we got choice seats on the upper deck where I proceeded to get suuuper sunburned, but that's my own damn fault.
Waitstaff was very attentive, they have a mediocre tap selection, but it had several local beers which made me happy because I like trying local beers. My tuna steak sandwich was GINORMOUS, the fries well-cooked and not oversalted. I really couldn't complain. However, my friend's shrimp tacos looked decent though skimpy, and my other friend's lobster roll was huge. The prices are what you'd expect in Montauk; lunch and drinks for 3 was somewhere under $100.
But I'd totally go back at the same time of day. Totally amazing post-beach. Loved it.
The name says it all, my friends (seriously, urban dictionary that).  If you have high expectations of a place that has the word sloppy in its name then I seriously question  your intelligence.  The Sloppy Tuna is a great place to go after hitting the beach all day and to get a little silly with some late afternoon imbibing.
Laid back environment, great for people watching (lots of dudes with rad coolers walking around), cheap drinks and just letting loose with friends. Â Check your pretense at the door.
As a person that frequents Montauk, I have to say this is the worst restaurant that I have eaten at there. After waiting 45 minutes for a table (which is understand in the prime season, so I was not upset about this) it took the waitress well over 10 minutes just to give us menus! And about another 10 mintues after that to bring over 2 bottled beers and 2 sodas. The rest of the meal went on at the same pace.... it took 45 minutes for our food to come out. And when it did, that is when the worst of the meal began. I had the tuna sandwich, which I specifically asked for whichout cheese due to an allergy. Noticing the cheese as the waitress (I use the term "waitress" loosely) was dropping the food off at the table, her solution was to give me a side plate to peel the cheese off myself. One of the other people dining with us ordered the grilled cheese, which was black on one side it was burnt so badly. The waitress did not come to the table to check on us, so I had to go to the the hottess stand to get ketchup and napkins. When the waitress did come back, we informed her about the grilled cheese being burnt (which of course was still on the plate, because it was not edible). The waitress did not offer to get it remade. She just gave a half ass sorry and walked away. With all these issues, nothing was taken off the bill, no were any solutions offered. With this miserably poor service and disguting slop for food, I will NEVER go to this restuarant again! Please doyourself a favor.... if you are thinking about going to this restaurant, just eat your money instead. It will taste better and you won't have to wait as long for your dissappointment. There are PLENTY of other great restuarants in Montauk that have incredible food and have people working for them that care.
Review Source:I SO WISH I could give the Sloppy Tuna 5 stars. The guacamole was the BEST I've ever had. Â I asked the waitress and she saidd they make it fresh every morining and throw out whats left every evening. Â It is served with homemade chips, could be a meal by itself. Â We also had the tuna and crispy onion sandwich with spicy Mayo. Â I could eat one every day. The tuna filet was HUGE. asked for more mayo to dip, it was that good. Â Even the pickles were good. I'd come here for lunch again and again. The menu wasnt that big, but each item on it seemed interesting. Here's why i didnt like it. The restaurant part is the upstairs, seats about 30-40 maybe, there is an outside deck too, but it was raining. Â The other 75% of the space was bar, bar, bar, bar. Â Live music nightly - drinking drinking drinking. No tables just dirty floor, warehouse style. I guess thats ok for a frat house, but drinkers like that dont' care about the gorgeous ocean view... they are RIGHT ON THE DUNES. wasted space if you ask me. THIS locations SHOULD be a high-end restaurant. another point they lost me... $4 for a diet coke... in a 12 oz paper cup shot out of the soda gun and flat. Â Oh, come on, THAT was the deal breaker. My husband's bud in a bottle was only $5. Service was OK... I see complaints here, my biggest complaint about service was that the hostesses and waitresses spent too much time looking at themselves in the mirror, checking bellybutton rings, yanking out wedgies and braiding eachothers hair. Â Based on FOOD - FIVE STARS !! Â It pains me to give it three, but less than that would not do the food justice. Â Get this chef the hell out of there and give him a real restaurant !!
Review Source:The food was average for a quick bite off the beach but the service was awful. The waitress never came to check on us, we asked repeatedly for ketchup and she got the orders wrong. My dad did not ask for fries but was given some with his lobster roll and we knew from the menu they were not included. Now 3 other people requested fries and were not given any, so they asked for them. They eventually came and were good. The waitress never came over to check on us and when we got the bill they ended up charging us double for the fries. The waitress even went so far to say that she didn't put the fries on my dads plate and it wasn't her fault that they were put with the wrong meal. She actually refused to adjust the bill!!! And because we were a party of 7 they automatically included a 20% tip and our waitress  definitely didnt deserve that. She didn't comeover to check on us once during the whole meal. We never even got napkins! Worst waitress ever!!!!
Review Source:Didn't eat here. Â Just had late night drinks. Â Bartenders were overworked and overwhelmed. Â Lots of space to move around, which was nice. Â Decent crowd, although preppy. Â Nothing special at all. Â Just the type of place you end up at toward the end of the night when you have nothing better to do.
6 dollars for a Red Bull (no vodka)? Â Get serious.
Not a fan. Â I didn't eat food here so I can't speak to that. Â We had a couple beers, but I wasn't impressed at all. Â They have a bar outside on the first floor and another bar upstairs with half of it outside. Â I waited so long for a drink at the downstairs bar that I gave up and went upstairs. Â The staff was a little more attentive upstairs, but not up to my expectations. Â It just annoyed me.
In my opinion, it's way to expensive for a beach front bar. Â I felt uncomfortable going in there in my bathing suit after a day on the beach. Â I was looking for something more casual and fun. Â This wasn't it.
For a place with so many beautiful waterfront properties, waterfront dining is few and far between in the hamptons.
I suppose I wasn't expecting much, from this place, but the shrimp tacos were expertly cooked. Â Tender, fresh, and topped simply with pickled red onions, a light verde sauce, and micro greens.
Topped off with a  cold can of Kona beer, it's an experience unlike any other from the Bays to the End.
Best beach bar in Montauk hands down. Â I love this place.
People seem to be too critical of the food here... You don't come here for fine dining, you come here to day drink at the beach in a fun and wild environment. Â Goldfish races, beer monsters, shot wheel, etc.
Prices are expensive but that is to be expected, you pay for the location and convenience. Â Beers run around $7, Mixed Drinks $9-$12.
The service is excellent, very friendly staff all around. Â Notably Jamie the bartender; good dude, keeps the party going and the beers flowing.
Unbelievably small and overpriced menu.
We didn't stay.
We came for lunch, saw $14 for a hamburger ($2.50 extra for cheese).
There were only 5 menu items, and not a single dish ok for a vegetarian.
We asked if they could accommodate our vegetarian friend, and they said they could make her a salad.
We ordered coffees to start and after 10 minutes the waitress came back to the table and said "We're sorry, we only have one pot, and it's brewing tea right now... it will be 20 minutes for coffee." - either that pot was incredibly slow, or that waitress was incredibly dumb.
With that, we took our business elsewhere.
Beautiful location practically on top of the lovely Montauk shore! Other than that, this place comes off as a run-of-the-mill college bar. The margarita was awful, way too sweet - stick with beer. The burger was okay, the fries okay, tuna burger okay. Â Everything was okay, except for the setting, which is perfect for outdoor socializing and whatnot. It's less about the food and more about enjoying some drinks in the fresh sea salt air.
Review Source:Another spot in Montauk right on the water. Â Went here recently for an event and it was so much fun. Â The drinks were strong and pretty good. Â This place is spread out and the crowd varied but was overall pretty friendly. Â I didn't try the food here but would definitely come back and check it out. Â The only con is, all these outdoor parties result in massive bug bites.
Review Source:Was out at the Sloppy Tuna on Tuesday for a "locals & staff" event and then stuck around for another 7 hours at the bar. The decor is very cool..it's right on the water, and they did a good job decorating the place with surfboards and driftwood sculptures.
I was there for an event so I didn't get to try the real food, but everything was awesome. We had lobster rolls, lobster in lettuce wraps, sliders, scallops on a bed of quinoa and a fish burrito and I had 4-5 of everything.
At night the bar was a great scene..they had a DJ mixing between pop and house music and it was packed, which was impressive for a Tuesday. The crowd was pretty casual and was mostly locals but I'd imagine it's different on the weekend. It wasn't creepy old locals though - it was mostly young NYers and lots of people from Ireland.
The only reason they don't have a fifth star is because I didn't get to actually try the real menu there..but the location, layout, food and staff were all a lot of fun. Next I'm I'm in the area I'll be back.
Attractive crowd, good drinks and even better prices (for out east), not too many really dorky people(ie. guys wear crab shorts and white boat shoes) and right on the water. I didn't have any food but the place looked like an ok spot to eat at. Good for grabbing some drinks right after the beach while still being on the water. Be wary of the locals and get ready to have a good time with a bunch of drunk people. People over 60 beware unless you are my grandma in which case you can definitely hang.
