This place of course is located in Smithfield, Virginia. Â Home of Smithfield ham. Â If you don't know what Smithfield ham is, it is salt cured ham. Â Now consider yourself a little smarter but that information has nothing to do with the restaurant. Â
Ate their with my family on a cold Saturday November. Â I've never been to Smithfield, but I could easily tell that this town has been turned into a tourist trap. Â Okay okay, enough about Smithfield. Â
We had a nice view of a river outback while we ate. Â I started my meal with a small bowl of sausage chowder. Than I had the crab cake sandwich. Â The soup was a special for that day. Â It was delicious with its sausagy goodness. Â The crab cake sandwich was done very well. Â Couldn't taste any filler, just yummy crab. Â
If you're in the area and in need of a meal, definitely give it a try.
What a cute little escape for a bonafide city girl like me. Smithfield is a charming little town and this restaurant is on the water (I'm sure it's great to eat on the deck in the summer) in southern VA. The food is great - nothing spectacular but they do it well. I had their version of clam chowder and the Waldorf chicken salad (with grapes). The chowder was good but not as good as the classic New England variety (though I'm sure this version was healthier as it didn't appear to have any heavy cream in it). Again the chicken salad sandwich was good but not great - I did appreciate that it was on a croissant (something unexpected and delicious for a little joint like this). My bf got the crab cake sandwich - both tasty and had a good amount of crab meat (and not too much filling). I've found many a restaurant who make pathetic crab cakes by using too much filler and not enough crab meat, so they get kudos for that!
Review Source:This restaurant is on the same site of the Smithfield Station Inn, where my husband and I stayed for Columbus Day Weekend. Â Very convenient spot for us to grab a late night dinner, so we dined here a couple of times.
Loved it! Â Staff is very friendly and attentive. Â Bread is warm and comforting. Â My husband had a couple of oyster shooters as appetizers, which he seemed to really enjoy!
Out of the couple of meals I had here, the highlight was the Smithfield Station burger...beef patty with ham (which is what Smithfield is known for), two strips of bacon and crabmeat. Â WHOA! Â Can someone say "heart attack in a burger?!" Â Definitely not something I'd recommend consuming on a regular basis, but we were on vacation...so why not?!
The restaurant is along the waterfront...I'm sure the views are nice during the day time. Â We dined only during dinner, so didn't have a chance to enjoy those views.
It can get busy at times, especially during the weekends...which is great considering that the town seemed quiet during this fall weekend!
What a find! Â A friend and I got on the Jamestown Ferry for an adventure...not knowing where we were going. Â We wound up in the town of Smithfield...a delightful little town full of interesting shops and Victorian homes. Â Since it was a beautiful day, we decided to find a restaurant on the water. Â We spotted a large building with a marina -- The Smithfield Station Waterfront Restaurant, Â We enjoyed a delicious lunch and friendly service on the deck...watching the boats anchored beneath us.
