Came to sneakers after being rained out at the players. Very impressed w the big screen tvs and got set up at a nice booth w a group to watch once coverage started again. Â The entire room and bar was filled w like people wanting to watch the coverage. Â A nice hostess turned two of the three large screen tvs on to the golf but left the sound on to the playoff basketball game between Oklahoma and Memphis. Â I inquired from our server and then a bartender if we could get the sound turned to the golf after hearing applause and oohs and ahhs from the entire crowd as golfers would make or miss a putt. I was given the same answer from each that the tvs were on timers and could not be switched for sound. I know your usual clientele might be of the basketball watching persuasion but with an entire restaurant and bar being filled w golf fans the week of the players a few miles away, which you are even having a special for the manager on duty should be fired. I wouldn't really mind that much but I was lied to by more than one employee because after the basketball game was over that lasted longer than scheduled and after sports center was on for a while the sound was then changed to golf... Â Just in time for the coverage to end due to darkness. I hope this issue will be resolved w management because we really had a lovely server and the meal was very nice as well as a great setting to watch sporting events. It would just be nice if a main event happening in your hometown would be that one.
Review Source:This is advice of the optometry students visiting Jacksonville for TVCI:
You can use your $30 voucher on your first night here, they even do room service, if you're too lazy to walk, literally, a minute from your room. Â We opted to use our voucher for a real meal (if you can call it that) at Outback and ended our night here at Sneakers.
I like to refer to Sneakers as the biggest, most empty bar in the world!
It is very big, and as implied, has tons of seating! Granted, I visited on a Wed and Thurs night (yes, twice in a row). Â On wed the domestic beers were $1! Â I opted for a capt'n and coke, a double was around $9, which is reasonably priced. Â We also tried the Gator Bites which were really good! Â When in FL, try the cuisine! Â The spice in the batter of the bites was really good and flavorful. Â It was like popcorn chicken, but chewier and with a more distinct taste. Â They also give you a cajun ranch to dip, which I enjoyed. Â Try it! Â They are market price, but our night we paid, $11.99 for a little basket, shown in the photo I uploaded.
They have tons of pool tables that are free to play and a few arcade games, although they weren't the popular attraction.
We came here because of the great convenience of the location. Â Some people took a taxi to the beach, but since my group was from CA, we just walked over to the bar. Â You have to make your own atmosphere because it is relatively empty. Â But once you do that and create a mood of your own, it is fun!
I signed up for Yelp for the sole purpose of reviewing this lousy arse restaurant. Came here months ago but  the horrible experience is too hard to forget. Came for wings on a busy game night, I forgot exactly what game was on though.
Waited at the door about 15 mins while the hostess just stared at us and continued to talk to her friends (short brunette pregnant chick so whoever was pregnant sometime last yr thats the one!) No greeting or service whatsoever. That should have been my indicator to leave but I was starving and that was the only thing open on the beach that time of night.
Anywho after basically huffing and puffing for some type of service I was finally seated. So after waiting for a waitress another 10 more min, I had to physically get up and find a manager for us to get some type of service. Only for me to get back to my seat and watch the manager and other waitress laugh hysterically at me out of the corner of my eye. Seriously the entire staff looked DRUNK. The waitresses were disoriented, the manager's ( blond short haired dude in all black attire) eyes were bloodshoot red  and glazed over just unprofessional.
So after a waitress relunctantly came to take our order she brought us back the WRONG drinks. At the point I had had enough & I'd rather go to sleep hungry than waste one more minute in that place. The Sneakers on Point Meadows is 10 times BETTER! Dont waste your time or money.
As described in Neal J.'s review, our families ate here this past Sunday and my son was served a basket of wings that contained one that had been eaten down to the bone. When we informed the waitstaff, the manager came over and began with "If this happened . . ." I think we were all in such shock and disgust that we just calmly (and now regrettably) left in disbelief. Only now has it sunk in how absolutely vile the experience was. It's hard not to speculate about how the eaten wing ended up in the basket, or what a complete hazard it was/is to my young son. The manager, though, treated us with a degree of insincerity, incompetence, and disrespect that signals to me much deeper issues with this establishment. I will be warning all I encounter to avoid Sneakers.
Review Source:This beach bar served my nephew a wing that had already been eaten. Â It was on the bottom of the order so he had eaten 3 or 4 wings when he discovered it. Â We were all so grossed out. The manager came over and gently insinuated that we had made the story up. Â He then begrudgingly took the wings off our bill. Â Meanwhile the kids and adults were sick to their stomach. Â This place is unsanitary at best and dangerous at worst. Â My first call Monday morning is to the health department. Â Do not eat here.
Review Source:I'll start by saying that the environment is great for a sports bar! The TV screens are huge, seats are well arranged and comfortable, noise level is just right..It's a fun place to go to for drinks. Last time I got BBQ ribs there, I was very impressed with them - they were so perfectly prepared! After that great experience, my husband and I decided to visit again this past weekend and were so disappointed, I doubt we'd ever eat there again.
I started with a side salad. I know it's nothing fancy, but the greens in mine were so old, they were falling apart. You know when salad gets to the stage when you throw it away..only they served it instead. I asked for replacement. New salad had fresh greens.
Then came the ribs..first disappointment was right when I took the first bite - really chewy. I didn't say anything - thought it was just a bad spot. Nope. The whole thing was chewy and poorly prepared. The cole slaw was like soaked in water - zero flavor. Nothing like last time..and this is only a few weeks. Either something changed, or the quality of the food is inconsistent.
Very likely to not go back there again for food again - just drinks.
I'm honestly surprised as to how well others have rated this place, considering most of the bad reviews revolve around one thing; HORRIBLE SERVICE! I'd hate to believe that locals have grown accustom to this mentality, but that seems to be the case as my time here grows longer. I can't imagine this place receiving more than one star for processed frozen food.
One of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had! My first experience was with some friends that had already arrived so I joined them at their table. I asked the waitress what they had on tap and I got the deer in the headlights look. Not a big deal, maybe she was new, said she would be right back. Waited about 10 minutes and decided I'd have better luck getting a drink by just going straight to the bar outside. Keep in mind that this was early afternoon and the place was empty. I go outside to the empty bar and take a seat. The bartender was near the register texting. Again, not a big deal, he saw me sit down, i figured he would put the phone down and help me out. Not a chance! Waited another 10 minutes for him to finish his text and serve me an overpriced beer.
The last time I went there, my wife and I met up with another couple, had one drink and left due to the lack of customer service skills the bartenders possessed. "What do you want?" is not appropriate when asking a paying customer how you can service them. Unfortunately this has been, and most likely will remain a "hotspot" at the beach. Losing a few customers is the least of their worries, the saddest part is that they know this and they let you leave with a smile on their face and a "good riddance" attitude.
Don't waste your time here. There's a handful of much better establishments within walking distance that genuinely appreciate their customers.
I've eaten here plenty of times. Â Its really nothing special - same typical sports bar food, autographed jerseys hanging in frames on the wall, TVs all over the place, a few big screens, cheerleader-outfitted servers, etc. Â I'm writing this review mainly because of the location and outside patio, which both score this Sneakers some major points. Â The location is prime time. Â The garage door-esque openings of the patio let the breeze in and let you observe the scenery. Â Sitting outside right along the main strip of Jax Beach is just awesome. Â The service is fairly prompt and everyone is friendly. Â A good place to watch the game and then go stroll the beach.
Review Source:Love the wing sauce selection.
If you like watching football and racing then this is a good place to hang.
Full bar-drink specials
Well lit,and roomy-can get packed and run out of tables at times still though.
A lot of staff.
Decent grub and value.
I am not a fan because I do not care for sports or sport bars but not bashing the place at all.
Could be slightly less $$$ though for value and portions.
This place is HUGE!!! There are tons of TV's, tables, and staff. They have a full liquor bar, which is pretty convenient for those that like to drink. Their cheese fries are to die for, but let's not forget their steaks and garlic potatoes, omg... DELICIOUS! The only bad thing was that when they brought out the dishes, the plates were extremely hot and I burned my arm, but it wasn't worth getting upset over it, I was in vacation and didn't want to stress..lol This place is fun and they have great food!
Review Source:Sneakers is big. There are a lot of tables. A lot of tvs [for all that sports watching, of course]. A lot of Jerseys donning the walls as far as the eye can see. Lots and lots of beer and wings and fries and nachos and chicken fingers [to provide sustenance during all of that intense sports game watching]. And a lot of sports fans.
This is not your average, slightly dive-ish sports bar. It's bright and shiny and clean! It's a nice place, if you can imagine it. A sports bar that's nice? That seems like an oxymoron. But it's true.
I am not a huge sports far, but I do enjoy the occasional game. And if you are in the mood to enjoy an occasional [or frequent] game, then this is a great place to go. It's a little like Disney's brand of sports bars, but it's clean and fun and energetic and pretty much as good as a sports bar can get.
It took about 20 minutes to get a menu and another 20 minutes to order.
Luckily it only took 15 more minutes to get our drinks.
The prime ribs I ordered were horrible. My colleague seem to think his quesadilla was decent. I must have ordered the wrong stuff.
Fortunately for me, the weather was awesome at the time. It was 75 degree with a slight sea breeze. I enjoyed the night regardless.
You are probably wondering how this place got 3 stars by now.
Well, it wasn't because of the waitresses in cheerchealer outfits.
It was the appetizers that didn't arrive until after I was done with the god awful prime ribs.
Those wings taste fresh out of the purdue package. There was 0 frozen taste to it. They were nice and tender. The waiter did suggest blackened wings, which left the skin crispy and delicious while the meat inside stayed soft, fresh and juicy. The wings alone deserves 3 stars. I will go back just for the wings.
Great place to see games. Go there to watch games and drink, they have a full bar. Don't expect anything special as far as beer goes (typical Jax).
While you're there, tolerate an appetizer to hold you over until you can go somewhere else when the game is over. I was there watching a game once while the seafood festival was going on nearby. I ducked out and snuck some seafood back in to eat!
Beware of obnoxious Gator fans!
Yummy!
This place has a pretty decent beer selection, GREAT assortment of TVs of all sizes for game days, and the food is super yummy! The Philly Nachos are great! and the Pepper Jack Burger is perfectly spicy and cheesy!
You can't go wrong hitting up this place for a game!
PS - our waiter Manny was hilarious!! And so nice!
A great sports bar!! Huge and spacious with TVs accessible to every table and booth. There were multiple huge screens too, at least 4.
We arrived 1 hr before the NFL games (go E-A-G-L-E-S) started so we just missed the lunch ordering rush which was a huge plus! Our server was Manny and might possibly be one of the best servers I have had this year. I'm sure waiting tables can b annoying - that's why I never opted to take that as a job - so anytime I run into a server that is naturally friendly, I love it!! Also, even though a server may be really good at their job, doesn't always mean they are friendly. Â Manny made this visit a great experience. Â He joked around, gave us suggestions on what to get and was just genuinely hilarious; And anyone that can make me laugh, earns mega points.
Being from Philly it is hard to please me with anything with the title "Philly" in the title at a restaurant because I KNOW "Philly" style food. Â However, I always have to try it and judge! ha! Â So, we got the Philly steak nachos to start and the cut of the Philly steak was amazing. Â They were not an overwhelming portion either so that is good. Â I would have rather real cheddar instead of nacho cheese but it was still really yummy!
Also, this bar won me over because they had Woodchuck Cider on tap, FOR THE WIN! Â
For lunch I chose the fajita quesadillas and they were pretty good. Â Again, the portion was a good size, but the filling was minimal too and could have used a bit more chicken and cheese. Â
Overall, pretty good sports bar experience and I was very pelase!
SUPERSIZE ME! Â Thats what I feel like yelling when I walk into this place. It's absolutely huge with a giant bar in the middle. Â Lots of tv's around which play various football, hockey, etc. Â If you're trying to watch a less popular sport like lacrosse or motorsports racing and it's crowded you're probably gonna have a hard time getting them to switch over. God forbid someone might miss out on the golf channel.... Â
All the waitresses dress up in these little cheer leading outfits which suits some more then others. Â Little more refined then hooters but not by much.
As far as the food goes its pretty standard sport bar. Â I tend to think it's a little over priced for jacksonville. Â It's 9.99 for a burger, 9.99 for a big thing of nachos. Â swea tea was only 1.85 which is fine sine it has unlimited refills.
Honestly, you don't come to this place for the food. Â You come here to get your drink on, fantasize about where else you might find women wearing the same outfits, and if you're sober enough catch something athletic on the big screen. nuf said
Good sports bar but not too friendly with motor sports enthusiasts. A group of 8 of us tried to watch F1 qualifying and were told they could not change the channel. What was on TV? Golf. Typical Jacksonville :-(
I got an Idea how about a each table vote with $$ as to what is shown on the big screen?
This bar has a great location, and a good ambiance. Personally I prefer the large area of the outdoor bar. if you are there with a bunch of friends during the off-season or in between games the Trivia game they offer (broadcast on their TVs and played on wireless keypads) is a lot of fun.
However, all of the Sneakers locations are a little over priced when it comes to their drinks. Certainly not enough to keep me from ever going, but enough to keep it from becoming my regular watering hole.
If I have the itch to sit outside, near the beach, and drink alcohol this place is my first thought. Outside of that though there are better deals to be had elsewhere.
Located in Jax beach, this place is a 12,000 square foot sports bar originally owned partially by the famed right guard of the Jaguars, Tony Boselli. One of the largest sports themed Jacksonville restaurants. Â It became an immediate Jacksonville Beach landmark when it opened in August, 2001. Â There's plenty of sports memorabilia, monster televisions, a large horseshoe bar in the middle, and another "open air" bar facing First St. The menu here is beer and, well, sports food. One local TV station broadcasts their Jaguars show from here during the season. Sneakers, no doubt, will be a major Super Bowl Destination for those of us without tickets!
Sneakers Sports Grille was voted number 2 on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FMSN.com&s=420acf802e192d1889fbb736956f91d9c6a878d53dd03ae9225c301613232d36" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://MSN.com</a> city search for steaks, second only to Ruth Chris. <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FMSN.com&s=420acf802e192d1889fbb736956f91d9c6a878d53dd03ae9225c301613232d36" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://MSN.com</a> city search also named Sneakers Sports Grille the best sports bar in Jacksonville and one of the top ten sports bars in the country.
I come for the drinks and maybe something to munch on like their Cesar salad with blacken chicken or stacked nachos.
Ah, I forgot about the best sports bars in Jax. Â How could I, when I always talk about how good their nachos and wings are?
I've been many times to watch major sporting events in a fun atmosphere. Â My only problem is that they don't have enough TV screens. Â For example, if I look straight down at the floor, I can't see a TV. Â If you look anywhere else though, you get a great picture.
I think their wings are really good. Â They are about twice the size of Hooter's or Winghouse and the sauce choices are good too. Â I already mentioned the nachos. Â The fried gator tail? Â Not so much.
They have 3 locations I know of. Â One is on Baymeadows and 9a (newest), one is at Jax Beach and the other is on Atlantic (never been).
