Located right on the Seaside Heights boardwalk, it's one of the biggest Spanish restaurants in the area. The location is at an ideal place, plus, it's nice there are both indoor and outdoor areas to dine in the upstairs section of the restaurant. Downstairs, though, it has more of a bar/night clubish feel seeing that they have a stage and dance floor.
We were seated promptly seeing that the area wasn't too busy for dinner. First, you get free chips and salsa, but the chips were a bit stale. Thankfully though, it didn't take long before our meal was served. I ordered a chicken burrito with refried beans. On one hand, I applaud that the Chicken Burrito was a large portion on its own, but the Spanish rice and refriend beans serving were a little lacking. Moreover, they cover the entire burrito with melted cheese, which meant that I had to use my fork and knife to eat it - as opposed to simply being finger food.
Overall, I can't say that the food was the tastiest thing I've had. I'd say it's average at best, though, it's a little bit on the expensive side at $15. Actually, I think the dish lacked any spicy spices to make it stand out - and at times, I couldn't get the thought of bland tasting out of my mind. On top of that, the rice didn't seem as fresh as I'd like - as if it were just microwaved.
Honestly, I can't say I'd come back to check it out, seeing that you can get a better value picking up something from Taco Bell - while being tastier too.
Nice , but slow servers. Good ice tea. so much for the good. The carne  asada was terrible. A couple of pieces of meat drowning in a greasy, sweet goop. Also the tacos shells were supermarket grade at best. Not recommended unless u are hoping for a random snookie sighting. In fact jersey shore ppl come in after we write seated and service slowed to a crawl while the servers worshipped them. Benny haven. Try surf taco
Review Source:I really really dislike this place. The first time I went for dinner, the food was pretty gross. They even managed to mess up guacamole. My brisket tacos had no flavor and were so greasy. We went back again with friends just for drinks at the bar and decided to get nachos. How can you mess up nachos right? Â This places figured out how to. I have had better movie theater nachos. They don't use real cheese and they throw random stuff on top that just doesn't work. The store bought chips were soggy and really it was a waste of money. The only reason this place gets two stars is because they have great bartenders and cheap drinks. Don't waste your money on the food.
Review Source:I'd probably give it 2 or if possible, 2.5 stars, if it weren't on the boardwalk, but the lack of selection of sit down restaurants moves the needle up a bit for me here. Â If I had a ton of other restaurants to choose from (ie were not on the boardwalk), I'm not sure it would win out. Â However, in terms of "real" food on the boardwalk, this is a pretty solid option...you know, if you don't want pizza, funnel cake, etc. for dinner. Â It's a bit pricey for what you get, but again, look where you are. Â If you can sit outside, the ambiance kicks up a notch, as it's fun to look at the beach/boardwalk from above. Â The inside feels like a chain restaurant.
There were a good number of vegetarian options, and the food was what I expected...tasty enough, but nothing I'd make a special trip back for. Â There were a couple of creative dishes on the menu, as well.
In terms of quality, value, and overall deliciousness, I'd say it's more Chevy's than Jose Tejas, if anyone else gets that comparison. Â I'm just not someone who would go to Chevy's if I were craving Tex-Mex.
We stopped by for lunch during our visit to the shore , we came in & were taken upstairs & sat down right away.
we got some frozen margaritas & skipped the appetizers. The Strawberry & Prickly pear were ok , certainly can use more alcohol.
I had the Chicken Quesadillas , this was alright my company had the Steak Fajitas this was better choice of the two. The food was not terrible but defiantly lacked some flavor.
Its a nice big place w seating downstairs & upstairs , we were seated by the window so we got a nice view of the boardwalk. Â we had good service & for the most part prices are decent.
This place seems to be better for drinking.
Definitely not going again for the food. It was lack luster, bland, not even the salsa had that much flavor. I would go back for the atmosphere and drinks (stick with the beer). The Margartia was not good. I asked the server to put some strawberry puree in it so it would mask the apple juice that the bartender put in it. So strange! But we had quesadillas and a lump crab meat salad, not even worth the $. We did however have soup to start, which was amazing. Tortilla soup and pumpkin/white bean soup. They were outstanding! So, we'll go back to sit atop the boardwalk, look out at the ocean and have some soup and beer :) The service was good, it was just the main meal (that cost way to much) that we didn't like.
Review Source:Awful, inedible, I will eat anywhere on the boardwalk but here. Â I heard they are a decent place for drinks, and given their location I don't doubt it. Â This review is for the food.
Let me start by saying that I was expecting boardwalk food. Â Cheap, deep-fried, greasy goodness. Â They are far below the usual boardwalk fare.
I went with a fairly large group so I got to try a few things. Â Tacos and chips aren't rocket science, but it's clear they put in the extra effort to f* it up. Â Stale store bought chips, brown guacamole, cr*p service. Â The trifecta of bad Mexican. Â To top it off, they weren't even cheap (not expensive either, but for food this terrible it should be a steal.)
I imagine their Jersey Shore shout out will keep them in business for the next few years. Â If you're over the cast, keep your distance.
I echo the opinion of another reviewer, the name of this place is all wrong. It should be BLAND Cantina because every single item we ordered off the over-priced menu was COMPLETELY lacking flavor.
Even the guacamole they prepare at your table tasted like nothing more than mashed up avocado, and I watched the server prepare it, watched the ingredients being mixed together, and it LOOKED like it should have been delicious, but it was disappointingly bland and not deserving of its hefty price tag.
I picked the wrong time to try lobster for the first time - the menu described the dish so deliciously but when I went to eat it, the flavors did not blend well at ALL. I didn't want to be rude by leaving 3/4's of it on my plate, so I asked for it to go, and to go it did... right into the trash in my motel room.
My biggest complaint though, was the pitcher of margaritas. I'm not convinced that there was more than maybe a tablespoon of tequila in the entire thing. I am not a big drinker and at the rate that I drank that pitcher down, I SHOULD have been inebriated. Considering that I drank 75% of it, I should have at least felt a little buzzed. But all I felt was ripped off. $40 for a pitcher of raspberry slushie, seriously? Shame on you jerks.
Even if I lived across the street and not 900 miles away, I would NEVER set foot in this place again. They only get 2 stars because our server was nice and the food didn't make us sick.
I cannot believe the price tag for a dinner for two at this joke of a place. But as long as they continue to lure gullible tourists like me in to order, I guess they'll be just fine.
So, being the weekend before Memorial Day coupled with having sunny skies, we (the Mrs., our kiddos, and our pals L & J) decided to head to Seaside for the afternoon. Â The ladies on their mc's and me, J, and the troops in the Wrangler, sans top (meaning the Jeep, not me & J cuz... well, that would be wrong on SO many levels). Â
After taking in a car show, some local vendors, & some rides, we were all starving. Â L suggested Spicy's. Â Now, I had looked it up previously on Yelp, so I was aware that the general consensus was that the place was on the decline. Â However, L had some gift cards, so with the 3 kids in tow I figured the financial bonus was a plus.
The downstairs, bar area, had a very sweaty and overweight dude signing Lady GaGa and playing an acoustic guitar... and not doing a very good job of it. Â I should have taken this as a sign of things to come.
Up we went to the second floor dining area. Â The place was pretty full. Â The salsa served before the meal was pretty good. Â The Tortilla chips needed more seasoning (SPOILER ALERT). Â I ordered the Shirmp-Lobster Quesadilla (Asbury Park Press featured). Â It was ok. Â However, the shrimp was definitely NOT fresh. Â It had a distinct ammonia-ish flavor as all processed seafood will. Â The Mrs. simply had the Fried Calamari. Â Again, only ok, but also under-seasoned. Â L had some Nachos w/ Taco Beef. Â I didn't get to sample, but she said it was tasty. Â J had the Smoke-N-Hot Wings. Â Definitely not "smoky". Â Only kinda hot. Â Again, needed salt. Â However, with some salt added, they were tasty.
Personal note - The chef did come out to make sure that the meal was satisfactory. Â I ALWAYS appreciate that.
If we didn't have the gift cards, I probably would have been much harder on Spicy's. Â However, when you feed 7 people on $50-ish, at the Shore... it's tough to complain.
Decent restaurant on the Seaside Heights boardwalk, good view of the ocean from the seating upstairs.
This place is a pretty obvious tourist trap, but I found the food fairly solid for such a place.
Don't expect traditional mexican food. Chips and salsa were put on the table, some of the chips were really stale and the salsa was flavorful but not spicy at all.
The folks at my table ordered the following- chicken and steak fajitas, a spinach and lobster enchiladas, and a shrimp quesadilla, no one seemed to have any complaints.
I had a crab and avocado salad which was fine, and sort of refreshing after a weekend of heavy eating, I just wish the salad had chunks of avocado instead of guacamole as the avocado component. Tomatoes in the pico de gallo were pretty good for April.
I had a margarita which was giant, but nothing to write home about.
Dinner and drinks for 4 people could easily reach $120 without tip so keep this in mind.
Prices were a bit high, but overall the food was passable. Try using a coupon to offset the cost if you are set on trying it.
This is just a quick one. Â Stopped by here after 2/25 Polar Bear Plunge in Seaside. Â Service was quick, bathroom was clean, and the heat was on. Â Thats all I was looking for after raising $$$ for the Special Olympics. Â
I did not eat anything, so I can't attest to the quality of the food.
This restaurant has a very friendly atmosphere and great food. Â We stopped by in the beginning of this September and the wait staff was extremely polite and accommodating. Â Downstairs is more of a bar atmosphere, while upstairs is a full dining room with indoor and outdoor seating. Â We especially enjoyed the "table side guacamole" where a guacamole specialist came out and made us the best guacamole ever!! Â I tried the French Gold margarita which was spectacular- and my friend and I enjoyed the chicken and steak fajita. Â We couldn't have been more pleased with our experience and can't wait to stop by the cantina again!
Review Source:How things can change in an year! I loved the food at this place last year and was expecting the same this year. Unfortunately, they screwed up my order (I ordered pork and they gave me chicken). On top of that the rice and beans were not very well made and inedible as far as I was concerned. Stick to just the drinks at this place!
Review Source:They really should change the name of this place to Bland Cantina. Â The view from the second floor was nice, but the food did not match the view.
The chips and salsa they bring out where ok, but the chips needed salt or something to give them some flavor. Â The beef empanads were terrible unless drenched with salsa and Chalula. Â The pork enchiladas were severely lacking in sauce and the pork itself had zero spices so again the whole thing needed Chalula help. Â In fact, the Chalula and the pineapple margarita are the only things that kept this place from 1 star status.
Spicy Cantina is your typical tourist trap on the Seaside boardwalk. Â You can pretty much expect higher prices for the location. Â Being from Miami, I am used to these types of joints and know what to expect.
We went upstairs one Friday afternoon to have some drinks and enjoy the view. Â The place was not full by any means, maybe 4 tables were there and 2 people at the bar. Â Despite the place being not busy whatsoever the bartender seemed utterly stressed out. Â We sat at the bar for a good 20 minutes before being served. Â The manager actually gave us menus and came twice to apologize for the wait. Â Meanwhile we were staring straight at the bartender who was doing God knows what since the place was empty. Â No music, no people, no ambiance, and no drinks...
Pretty horrendous service, and the bartender couldn't care less. Â It's bad even for a tourist place.
this review is just based on the drinks and atmosphere... we didn't eat anything here.
we stopped in for a beer on our seaside boardwalk bar crawl and were pleasantly surprised by the live music behind the bar, the bright cheery feel of the place, and the happy friendly crowd. the 2 guys playing guitar took requests, and played jersey favorites like bruce springsteen. Â they were funny and relaxed, and we had a good time drinking beer and listening to them play. the bartenders were really attentive and one even looks like a much younger heather locklear! we drank the $2 beer special (i think it was coors light) and enjoyed our time there before heading on to the next boardwalk bar. we would have probably stayed longer if we weren't on a bar crawl and determined to hit every stop.
The nachos were loaded with a ton of congealed cheese. they were eh - but the guacamole was awesome - that's the only reason I gave 2 stars. I ordered the chicken chimicanga, which was sent back. The rice and beans were cold, the chicken tasted weird, there were globs of cheese in it, and it was not fried and crispy. the chef came over and I told him I did not like it, he was very nice, offered a new dish, which I declined. he made sure my meal was taken off of the bill. Â The rice had a very odd flavor to it - not sure what it was. It seems like a nice place to have a margarita and some chips and guac, but that's about it.
Review Source:I came here on Saturday before the Polar Bear Plunge. Â It's a two level restaurant/bar right on the boardwalk, which is convenient and fun. Â We sat at a table by the upstairs bar. Â There were only three bartenders up here, and they could have used a few more, because the place was insanely packed, but we got drinks after a few minutes. Â We also ordered some food (the footlong hot dogs were great, as were the french fries). Â We also tried two different kinds of wings, calamari, fried ravioli and nachos, which were excellent. Â I'd definitely come back here, probably on another day when it's not quite so packed.
Review Source:Place had a great View over the boardwalk. The food was ok but could have been much better for the price. The service was terrible. So bad the staff seemed unable to help you even if they wanted to.
For a place called Spicy it was pretty bland. Not sure I would return unless it was just for drinks.
Place is a pure Bennie TRAP and bring your $$$$$
The food is horrible and they serve the booze to cover that or else you will demand it to forget what you just ate.
Some of our family (the youngers) had a table of about 8 and they had pitchers or sangria at $30 a pop! There was way too much ice and NO FRUIT(thats a sangria?) and every one complained that the food was just horrible and tasteless.
The thrill for all of that was a $300 bill including the gratuity and man are/ were these younger ones STUPID and disgusted after that had sat there sampling pitcher after pitcher and getting lost in the seaside atmosphere and just havin a good time-YOU WILL PAY!
Stay away from this place is the word we got back from all.
I know this is a boardwalk restaurant, but with the price tag they have on the food, you've got to expect better.
The sangria is out of a box, gross. They have a great deal on a pint of blue moon, 2.75, but its flat.
I got the queso's with cheese ands teak. pretty good, but the steak is not evenly distributed. I had one wedge that had half a slice of steak in it. There is a good view of the water, and you are a floor above the boardwalk which is nice, but way too pricey. We had some service issues as well, nothing too terrible though.
Wouldnt go out of my way to go again, but options are limited unless you want funnel cake. Wouldn't recomend it to others. I absolutely would not, no matter how hungry I was, go to this restaurant unless I already had the bad fortune of being on the seaside boardwalk.
for the cheesy jersey shore, on the boardwalk...this place is not bad at all. Â very large and has a large menu. Â lets face it, theres nothing but garbage to choose from (except for a spot all the way at the end which i can't remember the name, and that spot was better) on the boardwalk. this is definitely one of the best spots. 5 stars this is not...at all...in any way. but good enough.
