I guess it's fine... I'm not a casino guy, really.  I don't like the smoke, I don't care much about unlimited free soda, and I don't really care to be surrounded by "gamblers".

I tried out the poker room, which was fine.  The tables were very quiet, and probably the least fun I've ever had hanging out at a poker table.  It was like there was some rule against having any fun...

At least they had live poker.  I'll give them bonus points for that.

newly renovated rooms more "boutique" style instead of southwestern.  Very cool.  great service and great prices.
Definitely planning to go back on our next trip to Oregon.
Great buffet - book early because they always sell out!

ps - who gets mashed potatoes at a buffet?

Casino had good selection of slot machines, Bingo, beverage stations with coffee and pepsi.  I really liked that they had a snack stand so you could grab a bite and get back to playing.  It had pizza, hot dogs, chips, pretzels, etc.  The casino and restrooms were kept really clean.  We went on a Saturday and the buffet was great!  Crab legs, prime rib, sushi station, salads, pizza, fried chicken, typical american food, chinese food, and so much more.  We went at about 5pm and just beat the crowd.

I would rather eat Warren Buffet or Jimmy Buffet before ever eating Spirit Mountain's lousy excuse for a buffet!  Sure, it looks like real food and there is a wide selection but the quality is so horrible that I could not even come close to finishing my plate of mashed potatos and gravy plus some turkey/chicken/mystery poultry meat.  This stuff tastes awful!  I really thought I was going to wind up puking.

Luckily I did not but my appetite was thoroughly killed for the rest of the day.

Based on what little I was able to eat, it appears the casino is orfering the worst of the the worst from SYSCO.  High school cafeteria food is bad and this pig slop makes that stuff look good, especially considering that the price is over $12 per person at Spirit Mountain.

Please do not gamble on this casino's food.  You will crap out...literally!  Don't feed any leftovers to your dog lest you be accused of cruelty to animals.

Arrived on a Friday evening, hadn't been at SMC for several months.  When we walked in the overwhelming smell of smoke hit us in the face.  Plus it was about 75 degrees.  Had a great dinner @ the buffet, well worth the $19 per person (no senior discounts)..we played the slots and blackjack for about 5 hours and when we left my throat was sore and my eyes burned from the smoke.  I don't remember it ever being this bad before.  Even the "non smoking" room, which is very small, wreaked of smoke.   We usually visit Reno about once a year and Las Vegas every other year, I can't remember a casino with this much smoke anywhere else.
Cashiers were very nice, our waitress in the buffet was very nice....the dealers for the most part were OK-I sat @ one table for over an hour waiting for something to drink though.

We stopped in spirit mountain to play the slots but had to leave soon after. This place should be called Smoke Mountain. They do have a small "smoke free" section, however they put their old crappy slots in there. Oregon has laws that prohibit smoking in bars, restaurants, and the workplace, but indian casinos are exempt apparently. Just 19% of Americans smoke...its too bad they choose to make it a disgusting experience for the rest of us.

Take a trip back to 2008 and beyond when you enter the doors. Remember that smell? Smoking is still allowed throughout 95% of the casino. After leaving the casino it does not leave you as the smell is on your clothes and skin. Makes you realize how great the non smoking law that took effect in 2009 really is.

The nonsmoking room is quite small and holds about 100 people max. Inside it is all slot machines plus a keno area. No other games besides those two can be played in a nonsmoking area.

I played the slots, and most of the machines have broken handles. This leaves only the button press option available for most.

They offer free soda with unlimited refills just as you would find in any major fast food place.

Less than 20% of Americans smoke now, but 95% of this casino is still smoke-able. I'm not sure what the smoking percentage of their clientele is (must be pretty high), but if they go off the national average, a major expansion of the non-smoking area is needed.

I give this only a three star- it is good for Oregon but it needs to be compared to casinos in Reno and Vegas. The food has been good and bad so consistency is suspect. I rated it at least three star due to their poker room games only. As a poker player they have tourneys that are worth playing, but I am a club player over the typical casino format for cash games.  For that I go to AcesUp in Dallas oregon

I'm really not a casino person, so I dont have much to compare SMC to except Vegas.  I was surprised at the lack of smokers for a place that allows smoking inside - and being that I'm a non-smoker, that was nice.  My boyfriend and I grabbed a bite to eat at the sports bar before heading to the Chris Isaak concert.  The food was fairly priced and the portions were pretty good considering.  Our waitress was quick and attentive.  The concert was great - there wasn't a bad seat in the house.  Well worth the $15/ticket.  Would return.

Stopped by to eat at the buffet on the way back from the coast. I remember their food being much better, but this time around.... it kind of sucked. Chinese food looked gross, the sushi was an embarrassment to Japanese cuisine and the clams (as good as they were) were very sandy. The only thing i really liked were the sides. Mashed potatoes/gravy, corn, etc. The prime rib was weird, because it was really flavorful and tender on the outside, but as you got closer in, it got super tough. That seems really backwards to me. We use to stop by the buffet on the way back from the coast all the time, but I think we might stop. It's still a fairly cheap buffet, but the food just isn't worth it.

We walked around and kind of played a couple slots after dinner, but that place just eats away at your soul. I'm a smoker, but even I was having issues with the second hand smoke in there. There's just this haze hanging over a huge room of zombies pushing buttons. I couldn't take it. Luckily, my group didn't want to hang out much longer either.

At least we have a casino on the way to the coast.  We stopped here for a few hours then had some cocktails and appetizers.  It's fun to come here once in awhile but I prefer saving my money and going to Vegas once in awhile.

I would still like to check out a show here.  We'll see if I ever make it.

last time i went there i was not happy with their no cigar rule and their lack of explanation by the staff... well i went back and had a good time. they have a nice $1 slot room won alot of money in there and they have the best buffet in oregon. i also went out to the casino on the coast and their buffet was nasty. home country buffet level. but spirit mountian has very good food.

so over all if you want to enjoy a nice cigar this place is not for you but they have some good gambling and a very nice buffet

Wanda Sykes in the house!! So off we went to imbibe in some awesome humor.  Have never been to this casino and I don't feel like I missed much - BUT Wanda was awesome!

The casino area kind of reminds me of a Las Vegas casino in one of their big hotels, like MGM Grand.  There are some restaurants and a buffet mixed in with the smoky aisles full of those machines that take your money without regrets.

We did go to one of the restaurants after seeing Wanda. It was kind of strange because they have 2 places exactly next to each other, with same menus, but one claims they are fancier (and completely non-smoking) while the other has smoking in one area at the bar.  The line was shorter on the "fancier" side. I think they should just call it the nonsmoking restaurant.  I ordered a cobb salad, add shrimp, remove bacon. I got 4 shrimp(I thought there was an unwritten rule that you always get 5  ). Anyway, the salad was not that big for the price. It was decent enough, and the shrimp was in a marinade that was tasty. They also brought the pedestrian white baguette but it was warm.  I did have a couple of good sized glasses of their house chardonnay and it was not too bad. The price of the wine was very reasonable (probably in that get me plowed so I gamble kind of way).  The lighting was low so that was comfortable, though the restaurant itself did not seem to be very interesting.

The "ballroom" reminded me of a corporate auditorium.  They did have screens for you to see the performer however and the sound was pretty decent.

I would not be tempted to head back here in any hurry, it smelled of smoke and I don't gamble.

Went to see comic Wanda Sykes in the casino's "ballroom".  Tickets were cheap, no "drink minimum" (in fact only water bottle allowed in the show), and staff was efficient.  The hall holds 1,744 according ot online sources, and seating was on padded folding chairs which gets a little uncomfortable, but OK for what it was.

Had a bite in the sports bar prior to the show, food and drinks were better than average and fairly priced.   I only hit Oregon casinos once or twice a year, and I like this one better than 7 Feathers.  If it was closer to the city, I'd hit the buffet on occasion, which looked really great, and was relatively inexpensive as casino buffets go -  but on a Saturday nite, the lines were horrific!

I accidentally went to this casino thinking it was the one I needed to be at for a concert and even though I was not going to this casino at the time they gave me directions to where I needed to get and were very kind to me. Very awkward situation for me but their kindness lifted me out of it. I will be back again, while I was there I bought tickets for Wanda Sykes!

    I LOVE THEIR BUFFET!

For only $14.99 it's all you can eat FRESH CRAB! Everything was fresh and delicious! Huge buffet seating area. One thing though, HUGE LINES! Try to get here early and avoid the lines!

They have a lot of slot machines that took my money! =(
They do have a lot of card tables too, but I'm not into that. This casino is really big and comparable to those in Reno/Vegas and probably nicer too!

i LOVE THEIR FREE SODA MACHINE!

I consider SMC clean considering it is a smoke-friendly facility.

There are two gaming rooms both with slots and table games, one permits cigarette smoking and is the central gaming area. There is a smaller gaming arena that is smoke free and provides cocktail servers offering a limited bar selection. The cocktail servers can be difficult to locate, but we often ask an employee to call someone to us on the radio.

The Summit is a sports bar-themed dining area with mediocre table waitstaff. Offering basic bar food and a few tasty salads, it is a convenient stop for a drink. Certain employees provide a great experience and others are lack-luster and distracted. I like to sit at the bar here, bar staff is excellent.

To say the Cedar Plank Buffet prvides an excellent buffet selection, would be modest. Desserts are always abundant and excellent. The food is typically great. I do advise to be wary of extremely busy times, or late evening, the food quality suffers at peak and down times.  If you have any question, when you reach the counter and before you pay, ask the attendant take you on a tour the buffet line so you are sure you want to invest your not-so-modest dinner dollars here. I have been very disapointed before. Because of this disapontment, we prefer the Sumit bar.

As for gaming- my lucky number is 13- suffice to say I'm not a gambler. My fiancee enjoys gaming and is much more experienced and fortunate with the games then I. We play some every now and then, and we are always pleased with the experience. We win some, we loose some, and we enjoy the overall experience here.

Spent one night here on the way to Lincoln City.  Enjoyed seeing Smokey Robinson on stage.  The buffet is one of the best I've been to.

Used the rv parking.  There were no hook ups but you can dump and refill your water tank.  Found some nice fields on the other side of the river for walking the dogs.

    I really enjoy this casino.

The shuttle bus to/from Portland is free, (unlike $30-40 back east in NYC).

The slot machines are like all casinos, hit or miss to me, (they were real good to me this Thursday :) ). Please don't take your whole rent check, thinking your going to triple it; you know who you are and its hard hearing you whimper the whole bus trip back home. :|

The food is good, nice selection and I appreciate the $3 off coupon given when arriving by shuttle bus. Workers are friendly. Environment clean.

I would play the roulette wheel if they had $1 minimum bet instead of $5

    Yep, I am a fan.

Stayed at the Spirit Mountain Casino Lodge for a conference I was speaking at.

Hotel and rooms are clean, but there are some smoking rooms so non-smokers need to be aware!

Bathrooms are huge, case goods are up to date.  There is wireless throughout the hotel, but no "wired" option.

There is a continental breakfast served each morning consisting of yogurt, cereal, breads muffins and juices.  Not sure if it's worth the effort, but since the Casino and Hotel are pretty much in the middle of nowhere, it appears to be your only and best option.

The drive up to the hotel is about 1.5 hours from the Portland airport and takes you through mostly municipal streets where the speed limit is constantly changing and if you're not careful you'll get pulled over by the State Troopers!

There is no gym and other than the casino and some manicured lawns, there's not much to do around here.  But I guess that's the point.

I am grateful that the organizers invited me, because I wouldn't have come out here on my own.  I don't think I'd come back on my own though.

    Indian Casino near Portland.

Came on a Saturday and parking was crazy.  Took about 1/2 hour to find parking.

When inside, there is a bar in the middle, and two sections of casinos.  One section you can't drink in.

Limits are relatively low at $5 but almost every table game uses automatic shufflers, which I hate, and the one table that didn't have one, the dealer had to cut the deck.

Of course I lost money, but my friend did good here.  Get a players card because you can rack up points for free food and drinks here.

I've been to Spirit Mountain many times over the years.  I never really win anything, and usually end up just feeding the machines when I gamble.  Brian Setzer was doing a concert, and we ended up getting tickets for the concert.  It was $15, which is really a good price, I think.

We got there a couple of hours before the concert, since we weren't sure how the drive over was going to be.  We figured we could burn time playing one of the slots and getting a bite to eat before the show.  I put $20 in one of the machines, and that actually lasted quite a while, since in the beginning I kept winning.  Finally, I was up $10, and wanted to cash in my winnings, I was perfectly happy with a $10 profit, honest I was!  But my companion talked me into leaving it in and trying to double it up and then cashing out...well, that's when it took the rest. :(

We ended up going to the Summit View Lounge for a bite to eat.  I ordered prawns and fries, and it was not very good, to say the least.  A lot of breading, and the prawns tasted rubbery.  My companion ordered the Cobb salad, and he was pretty happy with it.

On to the concert.  I bought tickets when the concert was almost sold out, so we were in the back, but still had a decent view.  There are several large screens to view the action upclose.  I remember Brian Setzer back in the early 80's as part of the Stray Cats...boy the years have not been kind to him.  He's aged ungracefully.  I thought the concert was going to be a dud, with an old washed up has been.  I couldn't have been more wrong.  He sounded great and I really enjoyed the concert.  There were a lot of young people in the audience, and they seemed to be pretty mesmerized as well.  For $15, the concert was a great value!  I just hated to be stuck at the casino in the hazy smoke for a couple of hours beforehand!

Not the best meal.  Some food cold, no sauteed shrimp......not good!  I guess they only serve those Friday through Monday, so we were told.  Most trips have been wonderful.  This time not so good.
    Three stars only.

    Good grief...

I have love and hate relationship with Spirit Mountain Casino. I love the buffet (one of the best in Oregon in my opinion), love the layout of the casino, non smoking section was pretty cool, and the staff are nice, helpful, and friendly.

What I hate about it is that I've never win anything here. I gambled at other casinos in this state (just slot machines gambling) and I always win something even $5 worth of winning. I've been at Spirit Mountain Casino few times and nada...not even 25 cents.

I say if you are on your way to the coast or from the coast, gamble somewhere else, and just enjoy Spirit Mountain for their buffet.

This is by far the best casino in Oregon. The hotel rooms were very nice & clean..decent priced as well. I was really impressed with the buffet. My boyfriend and I came for breakfast and had no complaints! They make omelette's with whatever you want right in front of you.
The night club had a dress code which i didn't think was necessary.
It was decent but you could tell didn't get much buisness..well, not the Saturday night i was there. I believe there were only 4 people in the whole club (including ourselves) for the 2 hours we were there.
    Overall we enjoyed our experience!

As I've mentioned, I travel a lot for work--mostly to the east coast and midwest. I am an avid Texas Hold 'Em poker fan. This is the only game I play when I go to any casino. I might wander off to blackjack or even the slots on rare occasions, but poker is my passion.

I've been to many casinos and other than the ones in Las Vegas, this is one of the best and nicest casinos I've been to. It's better than Chinook Winds, our other local casino in Oregon. I really like the poker room at Spirit Mountain. The dealers during the evenings and weekends are usually really cool and nice. You get some real poker players there and not a bunch of donks. They also definitely have one of the best Bad Beat Jackpots I've seen usually ranging between $50,000-100,000. From Monday to Thursday they have Monte Carlos, a progressive payout for high hands all night long. I've been to bigger casinos on the east coast and their games and jackpots aren't as good as they are here.

Their buffet is very impressive and among the top ones I've been to (other than in Las Vegas). They have a nice wide variety of dishes and types of food to choose from including hot crab legs, steamer clams, fried oysters, bbq ribs, sushi, prime rib, pizza, etc. The list goes on and on! I loveeee the peppermint ice cream. They recently added a sports bar and the food there is VERY good too! I really like the decor and the soft blue-lighted ceilings. I had their italian sub sandwich that was soooo good and their mozzarella pyramids (not sticks) are unbeliveably fat and seriously stuffed with some MAJOR mozzarella--YUMMM!!! Their deli is all right but when it's 3-4 a.m. that's the only place you can get hot food. For late night hot meals before 1 a.m. but after 10 p.m., I would definitely recommend the sports bar.

As for their hotel, their "deluxe" bedrooms are VERY impressive and nice. The decor is very contemporary and chic. One of the nicest hotel rooms I've been to--including those provided in Las Vegas. This room is definitely worth the extra $20/night from their standard rooms. This casino has every game you can imagine and meets all your needs. I'm so glad we have this casino in Oregon and can brag about it. It's too bad that I always lose when I'm at this casino, but it's too nice to neglect for too long. I always find myself being drawn back to this casino whether it's for gambling, lodging, or eating and leaving it with an empty wallet but yet still satisfied!

I love this casino. We used to go to the pow wows out here before there was ever a casino, so it has been really interesting to see the changes that have taken place out here. We have been going to the casino since they first opened, we have our first coyote club card ever, somewhere in a junk drawer, you know that is how you treat special priceless relics.

We are Keno players and they used to have the live Keno counter, we watched as it was morphed from one tiny corner of the casino to the big room and now down to a small corner of a cafe, on a digital screen. If the buffet wasn't good, this might have been a two star rating for that alone. Oh, what good food will do for a rating.

Not all the food on the buffet is worth the 2 hour drive we have to make, but it is still better than any other casino food I have had so far. The buffet is pretty large, too, which should give even picky gamblers something to choose from.

Just got back from this place!  Spent two nights.  Fan-forking-tastic of a joint.  Great rooms (get the king bed deluxe, comes with a 42" lcd, etc) and more.   Excellent fish'n chips, steaks and more.   We had a great time.   We will be back.  Only 20-30 minutes to the ocean from here, and well worth the drive.   Signup online and get your discounts and a coupon for $10 off any food here.  Excellent.  Hell, we even won $200 in the slots!

This place blows other smaller, lamer casinos out of the water (example: Quinault Casino in Ocean Shores).

I am writing a quick note on this buffet. I have eaten here many many times, with pretty consistent results. I wanted to share my notes with anyone going to let them know what I've found to be great and what I choose to pass on (I have tried nearly everything).

    The consistently good:
Dungeness Crab, really sweet and fresh
The makizushi: some of the better sushi I've had on a buffet. Their rolls are tightly formed and generous with the fillings. However, the fish on the nigiri is WAY to thin, even for Todai! Unagi was ok.
Fried oysters, crisp and not greasy
Salad bar, everything was clean and fresh and the selection was tasty
Desserts were pretty fair, a little too sweet for me, but a good variety of pies, cheese cakes, cobblers, ice cream and eclairs to name a few.
Guacamole in a tub was surprisingly good!
Drink selection is LARGE. V8 is on the list if you like it! I do.

    Pass:
    Pizza
    Chinese food
    Taco bar
    marinated mushrooms
    smoked mussels
    ling cod au graten

Another reviewer said the food was not quite seasoned properly. That is true; The food is cooked exceedingly well, just right, but the flavor could be so much better.

Thanks Spirit Mountain for the good food! I'm just a little sad that the late night breakfast is gone!

Seriously? Do yourself a favor BEFORE you go and get your real review right here...

I go to Vegas quite a bit and i have been to Reno dozens of times (used to live in SF and Love to head up to Tahoe to ski) and I had ONLY been to 2 Indian casinos before... and they were in California.

Frankly, the room was OK, two beds, one sink, old sheets and covers... exactly what I expected!

the Lodge and floor LOOKED just run down normal-normal, but then after that it goes WAY DOWN HILL!

The main casino seemed like an older Vegas casino... not very big and a touch run down and kind of cheesy. then I walked over to some tables and EVERY seat was packed, understandable for a larger crowd, but then i looked at the PACKED table and saw that 2 people sitting at the table weren't even playing... asking to sit down i was told that i couldn't... "they were just resting"

WTF?!? Play or get the FUCK off the table... right?

Same thing at the Craps table!!! 16 spots at the table and only 8-10 players... asked the stick man for chips and he said... "Sorry, the table is full." Not being accustomed to dealing with retards I mentioned that "Half the table is empty." He got exasperated and had to ask one of the people on the rail to move over 3 times...

oh no! It was the "Asian" lunar new year... all the couples were playing like Siamese twins (no pun intended) enough said. I can deal with it...

Then IT happened... I am playing for a while and I ask the dealer... "Where are the cocktails servers?"

He: "We don't serve Cocktails here."

Me: "Where is the bar, then?"

He: "We don't serve or allow any alcohol on the floor...."

Me: "Fuck This. Cash me out, I will go to the slots..."

He: "Sorry Sir, we don't allow ANY alcohol in any gaming area. you aren't in Vegas"

As my  world started to go blue and spin and I realized that my weekend plans and hopes and dreams of playing craps and Blackjack til 2 am and then hooking up with some morally challenged 20-something weren't going to happen.

After a Very sobering encounter and winning 50 bucks in 15 minutes i cashed out and made my way to the bar... Gaming sober is a very real and dangerous place to be... and the fact that I had to buy my own Grey Goose and Soda was even more sobering... 3 short rocks glasses later i was down 24 dollars, before tip...

24 dollars for basically 3 shots of grey goose... WOW!!! you are correct, Mr dealer... my Grey Goose and Soda at the Mandalay Bay ONLY cost me 7.50

After an uneventful and completely unfulfilled 'try' at the tables again, I just couldn't do it and decided to go to dinner with my companion... Walking to Legends we realized there was a HUGE line... but it wasn't to the nicer restaurant... it was about 150 yards long and it let right to the all you could eat buffet. I should have been able to tell it was the buffet line because of the varied array of "cankels" and varicose veins... i have seen an entire NFL roster with less 300 pound lineman than the immediate group in front of me.

Legends dinner was okay. Had to send back the lobster because they cooked it for about 35 minutes and chewing it was the same as eating calamari at a buffet... all in all my steak was good, but my night was already ruined

I did get the pleasure of hearing the Foreign couple and their family in horror and verbally complaining about the screaming noise coming from my room til 3 am... I guess the weekend wasn't so bad after all! :)

    Pro's -
    1. I didn't have to pay to park my car.
    2. I didn't get hassled or have to stand in line for more than 5 minutes checking in.

    Con's -
    1. Everything else!

I have seen truck stop bathroom stalls with more class and ambiance than this place has...

If you ever need validation that 'maybe your life isn't so bad', step into a casino. Not just any casino, and Indian casino. I used to do this somewhat often in San Diego, a place that is arguably the Las Vegas of Indian casinos. See, there's a definite difference between a Vegas style casino and an Indian casino. The ones in Vegas boast tourists. Out of towners on vacation looking for a good time away from their respective cities.

Indian casinos have an element of that, but it's maybe 10% of the total experience. The rest are locals, trying like hell to win it big and make the rent this month or the over 80 crowd, sitting at the slot machine with an oxygen tank. How is this not depressing? This casino and many others like it are a fire hazard. I witnessed said oxygen tanks at various one arm bandits right next to people who were smoking. Dangerous.

I've been to a lot of Indian casinos and this one was just a let down. For the amount of cash they're bringing in they could afford to spruce the place up a bit. It just looks old and tired, like it's visitors I suppose.

The really awkward part about writing a review for a casino is that there are so many elements that should, by all rights, be looked at separately.  You could have a great time gambling, shopping, clubbing, etc etc, but then you wind up with a terrible time at the sports bar, or the food at the buffet might be less than stellar - all in all, a truly mixed bag.

Well, since there is not really an option to view these elements as individual experiences (after all, the Confederated Tribes own and manage the whole lot) so accept this 3 star rating as a median between some really amazing experiences...

...and some that were, well, not-so-great.

In terms of the games, you have your usual suspects all in a row: slots, craps, blackjack, poker, roulette, keno, and pay-out is on the fair side of cheap - meaning I know people who have won aginst the house (and won big) even if my "skills" have yielded me a net loss of Money Dollars and Pride.  Even so, I feel better about losing my money at Spirit Mountain as opposed to, say, Chinook Winds, since I know that a nice chunk of profit from SMC goes to charity.  (It could be the same for Chinook Winds, but if it is true, then they need to advertise it more...)

The buffet, I am told by learned Vegas veterans, is on par with many of the offerings on the Strip - a fact that I will not dispute, since I found the variety pleasant and the quality exceptional, if not passable, on several of the dishes.  (The nigiri was, well...not so hot, but then, what buffet sushi ever is?)

The Mountain View Sports Bar, however, was a huge let-down.  I ordered a whiskey sour, she a grape vodka and diet.  The drinks were tasty enough...when they actually arrived.  We waited about ten minutes before a sever acknowledged our presence.  She was friendly enough, but ended up clocking out during our stay.  She was replaced with a server whom I can only imagine was literally slowing down time for the purpose of some experiment in reverse particle physics.  We watched what we assumed were our drinks just sitting on the bar for ages, until finally he stepped/slow-mo moonwalked over to the bar, picked them up and brought them over.

Now, I can understand if it were a bit busier, but there were not really any other people around us, and when you see larger parties of four getting their drinks before you, well...yeah.

I'm sure we'll go back; we love Spirit Mountain too much not to.  Maybe then I can write a more positive review and see if the sports bar incident was a fluke or an example of their daily service.  (And I really want to try out the Legends restaurant!)

I went here with my parents while they were on a visit to see me in Portland.   My dad absolutely loves casinos and would likely give this place 5 stars.  I'm not really as into it, so it's just A-OK with me.

They have TONS of machines, almost every one I've ever seen, and I've been to Vegas on many an occasion.  Alos, lots of penny slots and multi-denomination slots.  Which is great when, like me, you really don't have a ton of money to be gambling with.

Aside from that, it's pretty much like every other casino, full of cigarette smoke and lots of people on oxygen playing slots in said smoke.

The restaurants were all pretty decent, the buffet is definitely the best option for your money.

A great place to stay and play if you are a big action player!! The Summit is the only place to play, and is separated off the main casino floor, so the foot traffic is limited to those who have the $$$ to take advantage of the higher table limits...

The first thing you must do upon arrival is get a Coyote Club card. It doesn't cost anything, and is a great way to log your play to be redeemed for free food & hotel rooms....

Food: I've only ever eaten at Legends. It's a decent place, made 70% better, by the fact I've never had to pay for a meal. If you are going to eat here, order the Crab & Shrimp Stuffed Mushrooms. They are very tasty, but REALLY rich, so plan on sharing!! Entrees are pretty standard, with a big focus on steak and seafood.

Lodging: Again, I have only stayed in one of the suites, but room was very nice. Master suite has California king bed, plasma tv, jacuzzi tub, and a huge glass framed shower. Overall, the suites are really spacious, and a great place to come relax after a day of gaming. If you aren't planning on gambling a large sum of money, be sure to call the hotel and reserve a suite, as they only have a handful of them available to the public (the rest are reserved for high rollers.)

If you are in the area, come check the place out, I think most will satisfied with their experience...

Our little piece of Vegas in our backyard, how I love thee!

I, like many others, have lost many 20 dollar bills in the nickle slots at Spirit Mountain. With the mostly comfy chairs and the addicting variety of games, I could get lost in the sea of slot machines forever.

But I have to emerge to eat, so I head over to the massive buffet. If you haven't been to Spirit Mountain since they put in the new buffet GO!

Seriously, get in the car and go NOW!

For $15 each you can get an amazing array of food. Anything from Pizza to Prime Rib to Sushi. There is an amazing amount of choices. And don't forget to save room for the dessert bar. It's heaven on earth for the sugar junkie in all of us. You can get pie, all kinds of cookies, and even ice cream in several different flavors.

If the intimate dinning atmosphere is more your thing, you have two other eating options. The first, Legends, is a bit pricey and service is never that great unless you are a regular. And, to be honest, you could go to the buffet, spend half the price, and get the same Prime Rib and Clam Chowder. The other, Summit View, is a great spot to watch sports, drink, and eat an ok burger. Services is ok and you will definitely get your lungs fill of cigarette smoke. Non smokers need not apply when it comes to this place.

And if you should have occasion to stay at the hotel, join the players club cause it'll save you money. And go Sunday - Thursday, cause the price is usually around $69 for the night. But be prepared for some serious inconsistency in the room quality. We have had huge rooms with nice bathrooms and plenty of space, to smaller rooms with non-working remotes, and bathrooms that look like they have been around since the 80s. But for $69 and 24 hour access to your gambling delights, you really aren't going to be in their much are you?

So go, enjoy our little piece of Vegas. Just don't expect to sit at the slots with you rum and coke in hand. But hey, the pepsi is free flowing and you don't have to fly to get there.

The Casino - Fairly large, not labyrinthine, with a non-smoking section that isn't a complete joke. Self-serve soda and coffee kiosks on the floor, with waitstaff that will take your non-alcoholic order at the tables/slots.

The Food - The largest option is a sparkling buffet with myriad options. Not lunch-lady land; everything from spaghetti to sushi. With general slabs of prime rib. There are other small restaurant options near the casino floor. Don't know about room service.

The Lodge - Native inspired furniture and bed spread. New large bathrooms with tile. The TV was for shit, and in fact turned on twice in the middle of the night in a poltergeist kind of way (and turned itself off). The room surpise: a pair of XXL mens briefs and a pair of socks in the drawer. Clean, fortunately.

For those who are familiar with Chinook Winds, this place is way nicer. Despite the chones, poltergeists, and native spirits who took my money.

So...my mom and I decided to spend a leisurely Sunday afternoon gambling away the bank on penny slots.

It took about an hour to get to Spirit Mountain from the Portland area - through wonderful scenery.  It was much greener and nicer than the trek through northern California that we endured two days ago.  And the cattle farms brought back such nice memories from my childhood (even down to the poo smell when we got behind that stinky truck).

When we arrived, we parked in overflow parking, where the closest spaces were actually closer than the remaining ones in the main lot.  At that point, the shuttle happened to be stopping right by our car, and even though we could very well walk to the entrance, we hopped on.  (Mom: "See how lucky we are already?  I'm feeling it!")

**Congrats to Allen, our shuttle driver for your success with the smoking cessation!  But don't cut your patches!!!!  If you need less, move to the lowest dosage, and apply them less frequently!**

Our sole purpose today was to have fun together, so that meant no table games - instead, we roamed the slot machine floor to find where we could sit next to each other and not lose our money too quickly.  Luckily for us, Spirit Mountain has a wide selection of machines that handle a big range of denominations.

The buffet was pretty good, although the cluelessness of the patrons (us included) made it a little aggravating because we felt like we had to wait in the long-ass line when we could have cut into the different sections.  We were so hungry at the beginning that we were about to start eating our pasta while we stood there.  But the prime rib!  We got such nice rare pieces in the middle of the cut...and it'll definitely help with our iron levels when we try to donate blood later this week.

And speaking of refreshments, one of my favorite things about this casino was the availability of soda machines and coffee on the casino floor.  Help yourself.  No waiting, no tipping, no muss, no fuss...but alas, no alcohol at this kiosk, and if you forgo the waitresses, no boobage in your face.

So overall, really really fun!  The only drawbacks (as are the typical drawbacks with all casinos) were the loud machines (I'll have slot machine tinnitus while trying to fall asleep tonight) and the smoke.  I would like to suggest said nicotine patches to 90% of my fellow gamblers today.  After spending a few hours in that second-hand smoke, my lungs *must* be looking a bit like this:

                     |  |
                     |  |
          _        / ^       _
         / x    / /     / x
        | xx   / /       / xx |
        | xxx /         / xxx|
        | xxxx|           |xxxx |
        |xxxx /              xxx|
         xxx/               xxx/

(my first foray into ASCII art...I wanted to spare you guys the black lung photos)

So whenever i go to Vegas, i know damn well I will be losing a bunch of money on slots. but i know how to get back at those damn casinos by ordering free alcohol from the waitresses and not tipping them!  take that!  i go to the buffet and eat and eat!  steal little sugar packets at the table while i'm at it!  use up all the water i can in the hotel room, ask for towels, shampoo, whatever i can get my hands on, oh i am just too good.

but damn this place for not providing free alcohol.  i'm not even staying in a hotel room.  i'm not even hungry enough to eat at the buffet because i ate before taking a trip to the casino.  oh damn.  so the only thing i can do to get my moneys worth is to help myself to all the pepsi, diet pepsi, coffee and other non alcoholic liquids provided and i will waste all the complimentary little cups i can!

but it is still not enough to get my $50 back from those damn nickle machines.  aw phooey.

p.s. do not eat at the food court.  you know, the one that is open 23 hours a day.  yeah that one.  unless you are desperate for food, i wouldn't do it if i were you.

Spirit Mountain isn't anything like the casinos in Vegas, but its the best Oregon is going to get for now.  Unlike the majority of the other Indian casinos (Chinook Winds, Seven Feathers, etc.), a full hotel complex was built not long ago.  Expect intense cigarette smoke on the casino floor, a rowdy environment on the weekends, fun dealers, and the projected TV coverage on the walls are a lot of fun.  The Bingo Room is huge and KENO is a really popular game played by patrons all around the hotel.  Got kids?  No problem, as there are two rooms for the underage folks featuring an arcade and playroom.

The parking lot is massive and to the delight of the casino, typically full.  They also have a dedicated gas station for the folks who are stopping by or running low and an RV lot for the travelers on the go.   The Coyote Buffet is good stuff, solid prices, great service, and more important very good food.  Make this place a stop to kick back on the way to the Oregon coast.
