Nestled in the Clayton State University campus, Spivey Hall is currently celebrating its 20th season of high-brow entertainment. Â Spivey Hall is a regionally renowned concert hall known for showcasing jazz, classical, and international acts. Â As such, it is a classy venue that has been praised for its excellent acoustics. Â Parking is always free, and you can also check their website for the dates of various free concerts. Â In addition, there are plenty of noteworthy musicians scheduled to perform each year, though those concerts are considerably more expensive than the free shows. Â Notwithstanding, current CSU students & faculty and groups of 10+ are eligible for significant discounts. Â If you are a connoisseur of fine arts, you can become a "subscriber" by purchasing tickets to 4 or more events during a single transaction to enjoy special benefits such as preferred seating and other discounts. Â Also worth mentioning, Coca-Cola is one of Spivey Hall's proud corporate sponsors, so attendees are afforded free Coke and Sprite in the lobby during intermissions. Â If you have time to bask in the somewhat idyllic surroundings directly outside of Spivey Hall, there are a couple of large ponds featuring ducks, swans, and geese. Â And while the water fowl are a joy to behold, you consequently have to watch your step in certain areas near the entrance lest you step in geese feces. Â To be fair, if you've been to rock venues such as Center Stage, The Tabernacle, or The Masquerade, then you've probably had to step over homeless people before walking through the front door. Â So with exception to avoiding bird excrement, Spivey Hall is a nigh perfect venue to enjoy cultured music, and with its abundance of free concerts, there are shows to fit anyone's price range.
Review Source:EXCELLENT venue that's intimate, comfortable, and has great acoustics. Â it plays host to musical performances ranging from classical/chamber to jazz.
keep in mind that it's exclusively a performance venue and does not offer drink or snack concessions, so eat/drink up before getting there! :)
