The food here is just ok and the service leaves little to be desired. Our waiter's brother and his friends had come for dinner so all of his time went to them. He never came to check on our table after our food was delivered, our water glasses were never refilled and we could never get his attention. This could be a great place if there was a little more focus on the food and the service.
Review Source:had to kill an hour or two before returning our car rental at the airport. Â chose this place because of the yelp deal, $30 for $50??? Â which was good towards booze. Â this restaurant is attached to a hotel and there is really nothing else around. Â food was ok. Â but the fact that we could use the yelp coupon towards alcohol was great. Â just looking for a place to kill some time, have some beers, and watch some baseball.
Review Source:Based on previous Yelpers, we thought we'd give this place a try. We should have stayed with our old favorites.
Hostess: I can't say she was unfriendly, but I can't say she went out of her way to welcome us either.
Sever: Okay, it has to be said that our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I told her that this was our first visit and asked for recommendations. She actually had too many. She pointed out 3-4 burgers and 2 entrees. When I want your recommendation, give me your top two. Otherwise, you're not helping me at all.
Speed: Do not come here if you expect to get out in less than 2 hours. We waited 35 minutes for cheese fries, another 30 minutes for our meals and then another 20 minutes after we completed our meal for the check.
Food: Eh ... Mediocre. I had the Brisket Mac & Cheese. Just okay. Watery macaroni covered with brisket and then smothered in BBQ sauce - not my thing.
Overall Impression: The biggest issue that I see is poor management. Our server had at least 8 tables in 3 different sections. A human being could not have kept on top of that. Even after all of the above, we NEVER saw a manager.
I gave them 2 stars based solely on our server's effort.
Sporting News Grill is a franchise/chain restaurant that really does't have a "corporate" feel.
Being located in a hotel, near DIA, it's a little pricey as they have a captive audience of travelers. I've sat to eat at the bar several times and found most of the bartenders thoughtful and engaging.
The beer selection is great. I love that they have a big selection of local brews from Oskar Blues and other Colorado breweries. Check-in with your Yelp app and get $1 Off!
They really boast about their wings, which I found decent, but unspectacular. They do have excellent burgers with toppings like cream cheese and jalepenos.
The only unfortunate experience in my many visits was with the manager Andy. The guy could really use a course in customer service. He became incredibly confrontational regarding a promotion that they had. Apparently, they had a mistake on table sign and would not honor it even though it was a difference of a literally a couple of dollars on a +$70 check. I'm not going to let one bad apple spoil the bunch. There aren't a lot of options in the area but I'd definitely rank Sporting News as the best of the bunch.
Low expectations make for better possibilities...
Having had their dismal wings in the past, Monkey surely didn't expect much this time. Â Here on business and not much of a choice, this place got another shot. Â
Monkey do:
WHITE BEAN CHICKEN CHILI - Great starter full of protein, minus the sour cream, plus the spicy kick, this good chili
SUMO FISH SANDWICH w/grilled veggies(no butter please) - Good filet of whitefish, topped with pineapple and lettuce... Â
Delightfully surprised. Â Not out-of-this-world, but maybe better decisions bring better results. Â 3.5 Stars
I stayed the night near the airport and saw the Sporting News Grill across the street. It was disappointing. The service as friendly, but slow and the food was merely mediocre. Being a sports bar, I expected the choice of several TVs to watch but from my table, only one was visible and the quality of the picture was lacking...not even sure it was HD.
Review Source:What started out as the most rude seating-hostess situation I have been witness to in a while was quickly recovered by the most amazing service at the bar.
When my boyfriend and I entered the Sporting News Grill, we asked for a table for two, and seeing as no one was waiting for a table and the lobby was mostly empty, we thought we would be seated right away. Â Instead, with an undelightful sharpness, the seating hostess snapped that it would be a 30 minute wait. Â Her tone alone made me want to flee the establishment, and I looked at my boyfriend. Â 30 minute wait is really not that bad but she was completely off-putting. Â My boyfriend tried to rectify the situation by offering solutions... he asked if we could order a beer at the bar; the hostess snapped again saying the bar was full. I mean, really??? Most bars are full, but we were asking to order a beer until our meal was ready. Â So we asked again if we could order a beer and sit in the lobby. Â She finally said yes and stopped being so snappy at us. Â We approached the bar, and wouldn't you know it... two people got up as we put in our beer orders. Â The bar tender was the first one to say, "Pull up a chair guys, I have two seats here for you." He then introduced himself (I think his name is Josh), and asked for our names. Â He was so chordial and professional I forgot our horrid experience at the front of the restaurant long enough to enjoy a beer and some dinner.
First off, this bar has lots of new beers I have not heard of, and on draft! It was fun to try new beers. Â We tried the Tommyknockers Amber ale, and it also comes in a porter too I think. Â As soon as I checked in on Yelp, I was even offered a coupon for a discount on local colorado beers... I did not redeem it, but it looks like other fellow yelpers had difficulties redeeming it, so I would be sure to ask before assuming you will get the discount.
We also ordered the wings, half sweet bbq (forgot the name on the menu) and half original buffalo (also has a unique name on the menu). Â Their buffalo, which is marked as "medium" is very hot... it packs a punch, but that is coming from me--- and I am not very hot-food tolerant. Â They also warn that their "hot" is a true hot. Â Their mild sweet bbq was the perfect level for me, so I know to stick to the mild menu for the future. Â The wings were well done too. Â The sweet bbq ones were a bit of a "wetter" wing than I usually enjoy, but they were sure to get it nice and crispy before slathering the sauce on, so it was still some of the best wet wings I have ever had... not soggy at all.
Unfortunately for me, I had ordered the original buffalo for the sauce on the chicken in the crispy chicken salad as my main entree... I ended up giving most of my pieces of chicken to my boyfriend and eating almost half of his grilled shrimp skewers that came with his spicy penne pasta. Â The flavor though is excellent if you can stand the heat!
I was not expecting this nice of a sports grill within this distance of the airport. It is located within the Holiday Inn, and actually shares a hallway with the hotel. Â
I will definitely consider going here again, but may just walk straight to the bar!
Went here last night. Danny was our server, he did an outstanding job! He had amazing recommendations. My wife had the burger loved it, daughter had the wings awesome flavor, my my son had the kids pizza it was good, other son had the mac n cheese brisket it was awesome but little pricey for mac n cheese.. & i had the rib eye open faced sandwich and it was good also a little too pricey for what you get. All and all though, the big 3... service was great, quality of food good, but the value is a bit out of sync! 2 out 3 is good with me. We are happy to have found this place. It is because of their Yelp deal we saw them and tried them out! We will be back.
Review Source:Great spot to watch football games and eat good food! We watched the Broncos vs. Raiders Thursday night game and had a blast. No matter where you sit you have a great view of a flat screen. Our server was superb, even though he had a Raiders jersey on! Wings were pretty good, and my bison burger was amazing. Staying in hotel row on Tower Rd. and looking for a good place to watch a game? Go here. You'll be glad you did.
Review Source:I stopped into Sporting News on my way to DIA. I caught a little bit of the game and had a chance to experience this place. I didn't get to hang long, but the drinks were flowing, the bartenders were cool, and the wait staff was extremely friendly.
I would like to go back there and hang out one night, get some food, and enjoy some drinks and see if I have a similar experience.
This place has the potential to be a pretty fun sports bar. Too bad its 35 minutes from my house... Maybe it can be my pregame place before I go to DIA!
Very good beer selection of local micro-brews. The Dale's Pale Ale and Autumn Brown Ale were both very good. Had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here and all meals were pretty good with good selection to choose from. The prices are very reasonable for a hotel restaurant and good quality food. A nice touch at breakfast is a free sampler of a homemade breakfast bread and homemade jam! An amuse-bouche for breakfast! I also really enjoyed the flat iron steak salad which came with a nice sized, very well seasoned and cooked piece of steak on top. The Popper Burger was different and outstanding.
Review Source:If you enjoy microwave entrees at hotel restaurant prices, you'll love the Sporting News Grill. Here, they serve up 12'' dry cracker crust microwave pizzas for +$13.00. Have a soup and salad combo for +$7.00. While these meals did not make me ill (thankfully), I would refuse to eat there again unless physically chained to the dining table. 1 star for highly priced convenience store quality nuked food.
Review Source:Reyna is absolutely the worst customer service person I have ever dealt with in my life. She is extremely rude and snappy. She is unhappy and never smiles..... I figured out she does have the potential too, when her friend walked in when we were paying she was all happy and said "OH HI HANNAH!!!"... so that proves that she could be smiling with us, but wasn't.... she was horrible..... Then the next day we went in, she automatically charged our receipts to "large party" and charged gratutity automatically on there... she shouldn't be working there at all... oh and then when we went back in later the next day, she unfortunately was our waitress again, and our mess was still not cleaned up from lunch... This was the only place that we had a choice to go to, and overall it was good except for REYNA.... she should be fired and I promise you all I'll be making sure that her attitude gets turned around because she is giving that place a horrible name...
However, OMAR was awesome! If you go in request OMAR!!
Had some appetizers and drinks here the other night. They have a good selection of beers on tap. The service was a bit slow. The nacho's were OK, the chicken was a bit dry. They wings were a bit better. The honey-badger sauce was cleverly named and probably the better of the ones I tried.
Review Source:Lots of craft beers! Â This is the best part. Â Lots of TV's so that I can see three games at one time......good thing #2. Â The burgers are pretty good........BUT, went Monday 1/1 and all they had was a taco and waffle buffet for 22.00 and nothing else. Â WOW, that was not a good deal. Â Granted, one Bloody came with it, but there are lots of us who don't like the buffet thing. Â At least they should have offered some small easy to fix appetizers if they wanted to give the staff some time off (a good gesture!)
Anyway, any other day, go for it.
I like sports bars and this is a good one. Â 3 big screen TVs by the bar all with sports on and an impressive array of beers on tap, most of which won't be familiar to you if you're from out of town. Â Service was great at the bar and my buffalo chicken salad was quite good (and big). Â Two thumbs up.
Review Source:WHOA! Â I don't think I could find a better restaurant closer to the airport and more reasonable as far as hotels are concerned. Â I had the buffalo chicken sliders (amazing!) as an appetizer, followed by the mushroom Swiss burger. Â The burger was cooked just as I had ordered and came out before I could even finish the sliders, which to me is perfect timing. Â
Looking to wet your pallet? Â well look no further, the management has revamped this bar and has put all local and amazing beers on tap. Â I recommend anything Oscar Blues, can never go wrong. Â
Overall it is a great atmosphere offering everything sports, great food, great beer at an overall reasonable price with specials happening for game days and happy hour!
I would recommend 10 times over!
Awesome food, great beers on draft and excellent service. Â I ordered the bison fajitas and they were AMAZING. Â They also have an awesome variety of Colorado beers on tap, which was my favorite part because it was great to try different local beers that I couldn't get anywhere else. Â Their staff is also very knowledgeable about all of their different beers and specials, and they were all super friendly. Â And, with all that being said...they had great happy hour deals too!!!
Review Source:Dropped in after picking up one friend at the airport and waiting to pick up another. Â First friend LOVED the selection of beer. Â I was driving, so stuck with the food. Â We shared the chicken quesadillas which were pretty good. Â And, the portion size was huge! Â It's a decent place to stop as an alternative to the waiting lot or circling DIA.
Review Source:My husband and 2 year old son ate hear on a Sunday night when our power was out since it's just up the street and we pass by it daily. Â At first it was ok, nice decor and everything. Â When we got seated, the group next to us were eating appetizers, keep this in mind. Â We then ordered, a supreme pizza, seared tuna as an appetizer, and fries. Â We got our pizza about 20 minutes later...and began to eat. Â We didn't even finish half between the 2 of us, and it was a fairly small pizza. Â The dough wasn't cooked enough and there was too much cheese/not enough sauce. Â The toppings for the supreme were: Â pepperoni, sausage, peppers. Â After we finished, the group next to us, who were finishing appetizers had already chewed out their waiter and the manager, because they never got their main course. Â Us on the other hand, never got our appetizer. Â I asked the waiter about it, to make sure he didn't put it on our bill, and he said he didn't remember us ordering it, which I KNOW we did, because it was all I wanted. Â Our bill, for 2 margaritas, 3 beers, a small pizza and fries was 48.00. Â Pretty ridiculous for horrible service.
Review Source:Any place that has a decent craft beer selection automatically wins my heart.. Unfortunately the food just wasn't all that great, or that bad actually. Â I went with the catfish po' boy and my wife with a spicy shrimp pasta dish. Both just missed the mark. I will say the atmosphere and our waitress were top notch. It was a great place to kick back and watch the NBA finals.
Review Source:Great food with huge portions. Definitely can split entrees. Prices are very reasonable for the portions, and service is great. Desserts are not their strong point but still decent. If you're stuck at Holiday Inn with no transportation to eat elsewhere, no worries - we ate seven meals in a row here and none were disappointing. In fact, we got pretty familiar with the staff and chef, and they offered to make us about anything we wanted - very accommodating!
Review Source:Excellent beer selection, good appetizers and great bar staff who provided excellent suggestions! Â We rolled in at 11:45 after a cancelled flight and the suggestion of a local dark brew combined with some legit nachos and chicken wings were just what the doctor ordered! We'd go back if we every stay at the Holiday Inn again!
Review Source:I like this place. I'm not real foodie so I tend to judge restaurants by their bar and service. The staff makes it a point to remember your name, which they put into the computer. This is kind of creepy when it is a guy bartender but I really like it when it is women bartender.
The food was good, but the selection of beers was great. Since it is collocated with the Holiday Inn, I think this place is the perfect place for me.
