Springfield Family Restaurant

Looking over at Ron C.'s review, knowing that this place used to be a Ziggie's and is just renamed doesn't surprise me. I'm not a fan of Ziggie's and I'm not a fan of this place.

Maybe I got the wrong thing. I ordered their all-you-can eat walleye special, and really, it was too heavy, the batter too thick and the fish taste and texture really drowned out inside. The batter tasted okay, but really, I didn't order batter.

I also asked for Greek potatoes on the side and got fried diced potatoes instead. I thought for sure they just made a mistake, which would have been fine, but I asked and the server said that no, what I had were Greek potatoes, and she seemed offended. This place clearly doesn't know what Greek potatoes are. Not a big thing, but not something in their favor.

The people I was with seemed to have better food. My friend sat across from me and got fried chicken and he said it was great and it looked great. Other friends at the table also seemed to like their food.

I probably will give this place another chance, as I hate to give a bad review to a place based on meal that isn't their specialty. I'll probably order breakfast next time, as that's what they seem to do best. The pumpkin bread French toast looked really great.

We ate here last night. The prices are moderate, the menu is varied with salads to dinners. Jeff had the bottomless salad that he said was very good. I had the open-faced roast beef dinner. I also had a chocolate mousse cake. Hope that spelling is correct. It was good also. The waitstaff were very engaging and added to our fun. Nothing fancy here, nothing modern.

This is one of the best places to go anytime in Springfield for breakfast. I typically go after a night of drinking at the bar, but you can go morning, noon, and night and still get great food and great service at reasonable prices. The burgers are always good. I recommend the Bacon Avocado Jack omelet with the cup of fruit and biscuits and gravy. Delicious! The waitresses are so sweet and go out of their way to serve you.
