Tony's Italian Cafe

My partner and I were there about a week after they opened. Service was so-so.  The bread they serve before dinner was so tough I could not cut it.  I had to tear it with my hands.  Crumbs were everywhere.  I ordered the Steak with Marsala sauce.  The steak was so chewy I couldn't eat it.  The sauce was great so I lapped it up with my spoon because I was hungry.  I need more than a great sauce on tough meat with tough bread.  On the other hand, their tiramisu was very good, but they gave it to the couple in the booth next to us first.  After 5 minutes and the other couple saying "we didn't order this," they figured out we ordered the tiramasu, and I was waving my hand to get their attention during the entire exchange.

Fast forward two weeks -

My partner and I reluctantly went back because we were invited by a friend. The hostess was clueless.  The restaurant was almost empty when we showed up but she was completely flustered about how to handle two people who didn't have reservations at 7:00 PM for an empty restaurant.  Finally, we found our friend who was already at the bar, so we sat at the bar at an EMPTY restaurant because the hostess couldn't figure out what to do with us.  

My partner ordered the special (walleye) and I ordered CHICKEN marsala given that I liked their marsala sauce but not the steak.  My partner got his dish and I was told mine was coming in a few minutes.  Twenty minutes later, after my partner was finished, I finally got my chicken.  Blah.  The vegetables were ice cold and the chicken was barely cooked.  The sauce was not as I remembered  - thin with no flavor.

In my opinion, the bartender got my order wrong and tried to cover for it. When she brought my partner's order out she said "He has walleye with potatoes and you have walleye with vegetables." I corrected her and she said "Oh yes. Just a few minutes."  Yeah, 20 minutes later I got my chicken.  I couldn't eat it.

Don't waste your time at Tony's Italian Cafe.

Calamari was amazing...the red sauce it was served with was great too a little spicy just the way I like it.  I had a chicken dish that was very good as well... my side was a pasta with white sauce though that was pretty bland but when mixing it with the sauce from the chicken it was fine.  The house salad with the house dressing lacked flavor as well but the Strawberry Vinaigrette on my Mom's salad was wonderful!   She had a stuffed ravioli with a sauce that I found to be too sweet but she enjoyed it.  All in all it was a good meal but I agree it was overpriced.  I will return and see if any of the kinks have been worked out.

The prices are slightly higher then expected. The service was awesome. The food was good, but in the mood for Italian you would be okay here but better at Olive Garden and would save a little money.
