It is refreshing to come back to this community after years and be surprised by the positive changes that have occurred in this community since I left. The Standard is one of those changes that I will be frequenting for years to come. Get the Ruben and sit on the front porch soaking in all of the clean country air while drinking a cold beer and chatting with the friendly staff. Nothing could be better.
Review Source:Quite possibly the best burger I have ever had the good fortune to wrap my lips around! Â Flavorful, juicy, perfect bun & toppings. Â Lovely relaxing atmosphere, kid friendly (even the kid mac n cheese was the real deal with lots of yummy cheese), good selection of libations, amazing hummingbird cake for dessert, great staff... This place is more than worth a little side trip off 33 into Standardsville. Â It's a shame they are only open for dinner. Â Dont miss it!
Review Source:We stumbled upon this little place after taking a wrong turn at the end of a long road trip. Â The menu wasn't so large that you could not decide but the choices were diverse and the menu items were inventive while using local and seasonal foods. Â They had an excellent selection of local beer to accompany the burger I ordered. Â The staff was super friendly as were the other patrons eating there. Â We enjoyed the food as much as the fun conversation. Â I would definitely make this a stop on your way through VA.
Review Source:The burgers are amazing. It is a quaint small restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. It definitely is a quality place. I would however recommend polishing on small details...A bread basket with meals.. including a side with burgers at no extra fee and perhaps mints with the dinner check...I would go back regardless as it appears this restaurant has great potential...
Review Source:This is a lovely spot while traveling in the area for wineries or the National Park. The chef does amazing things with local food, and the freshness is noticeable in how great the food is. Â The local wine and beer options are great as well if that is what you are looking for. Â Very cute and impressive place - I loved the server, she was too sweet! Come here for dinner!
Review Source:This place was very surprising. It's cute, quaint, and exceptionally fancy, especially for the area! It's a good value for what you get, and while their menu isn't huge, there's something on it for everyone. Their specials are unique and their flavor combinations are fabulous. I wasn't too impressed with their desserts--we got two out of the three and didn't really like them--but the lamb sausage appetizer and our entrees were delicious!
Review Source:We had a delicious lunch here on two different days while visiting the Stanardsville area. Sandwiches were excellent, fries very tasty, and a GREAT selection of beer. Service was friendly and the restaurant has a quaint mix of wooden tables and chairs. Kid friendly too! We certainly will be back if/when we pass through this area again.
Review Source:As Deaf person, I made it clear that I will always support deaf-run businesses and this is no exception. However, this restaurant is inclusive to all types of people, young or old, disabled or not ... everyone else. Â But I have to commend Chef O'Varanese for its superb quality food. Everything is fresh. My mother and I enjoyed our dinner and you can expect us to return shortly even with the fact that it is about 2 hours south of where I live! Â It says a lot about its food quality & service. Â
My mother had Pork Loin Chop -- she raved about its sweet potatoes, quickly emptied it before she did with Pork Loin Chop & Kale. Mom said that Kale is fresh and Pork Loin Chop is pretty thick & moist.
I had Hand Cut Fettucini with Chicken. It also included mushrooms & peas in the mix. Â The moist -- I don't know the name of that thing -- its flavor is something I craved the most. Â Too bad I was too full to have some desert. Â Next time will do.
Cheers,

We stumbled upon this place while traveling to West VA from Richmond. It was right along our route (thanks Google Maps and Yelp!).
We passed by it once before we realized where the location was. There were only 2 tables besides us when we arrived, around noon on a Friday in the end of August. The atmosphere leaves a little to be desired. I wouldn't describe it as cozy. Seemingly modeled after a bridge club from the 1900's, with wooden tables, wood floors and a bit on antiques. Fireplace was lovely.
The food was delightful. Both children ordered the plain grilled cheese and it was one of the best my husband and I have ever tasted. The fries were some of the best I had ever have. My chicken sandwich was bland but moist, also with the amazing fries. My husband craved the cuban sandwich but it wasn't on the menu this day. His burger was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary.
My daughter enjoyed the purple bathroom! We LOVED LOVED LOVED the warm cookies and milk and left happy. We will return, should we be in the area and I will recommend it to others.
The only downside was the people at the next table, who appeared to be either owners or related to the owners. The room was small, the acoustics echoey and by the time we were done, we knew all about her computer problems, their finance questions and personal information I simply did not need to know.
We needed some lunch before we went off camping in the Shenandoah Mountains, and I sure am glad my husband found this place online before we left home! They didn't have a whole lot of vegetarian options, but what we had was really good! We both got the Vegetarian Lentil and Mushroom Burger, which had spinach, onion and smoky paprika mayo. I asked for the mayo on the side (in case it was too spicy), and it turned out to be a great dip for the awesome fries that came with the sandwich! The "burger" was really good, and you could tell everything was homemade. We got our son a side of fries, and he was very happy with those. They had a basket of toys up front that you can bring to your table for your kid to play with, so they are very kid-friendly. Service was great. What's a place like this doing in a tiny town like Stanardsville?? The next time we head to the mountains, we will make a point to stop here for a meal. Good stuff.
