Was here for Dopapod last Friday. Overly friendly staff, great bar and beer selection, and a wonderful beer garden out back for those of us that still smoke. Music from the band could be heard in the beer garden too. I didn't have any food but the prices were reasonable. I did have two beers, an anchor steam and a Magic hat, both from the tap and they were 5 bucks. The sound was awesome and perfect for the crowd and music. Also the security and staff were extremely nice and helpful.

Hmmm... Stanhope House is interesting to say the least. I came to see Milo Z play, and it was my first time at this bar. The music was great, but to be honest, the crowd was cracking me up. It was a "my ex husband has the kids tonight so I'm going out to get drunk with my new boyfriend" kind of crowd. Lot's of rowdy cougars and divorcees looking to cozy up to the cute young men in the band (one of whom was my boyfriend so the scene was pretty funny to me). All in all I would definitely come back. I enjoyed partying with middle aged folks, and the drinks were good.

Was very excited to try the food at Stanhope House...menu looked like they had it goin' on with some interesting and creative offerings, but our experience was unfortunately pretty lackluster. Totally dig the music, though! Will definitely be back for the live music and tasty beverages, but probably not for dinner again. Nope, not for dinner.

For a place that is potentially out in the middle of nowhere these guys bring it. Good food great prices and some pretty cool music. Although not a fan of everything they put on here they will take some serious chances with local bands. I've seen Uncle Floyd perform here as well as crazy noise bands. Staff is super cool. If what's on either stage does not interest you check out their beer garden in the back crazy chill. Lots of nice specials in the way of drinks and food. Wed is 3 dollar night.

Eerily cool place to check out some smaller bands....  It is totally haunted.  I loved the history to this place.. one of the oldest bars in NJ?  Dude.

Service is friendly enough, drinks are very inexpensive, food is decently good to awesome (wings are omfg woah)... Sitting at the bar - order at the bar, but expect to order your food through a waitress (I found this a little off-putting, like the bartenders are clearly capable to take food orders, and although it might be a little bit of a pain in the butt, sitting at a wobbly table isn't always the most enjoyable...)  Either way, our waitress was a doll.  She kicked and punched her way through the crowd (it gets packed apparently!)  just to bring us our drinks/food.. and check back on us every half hour or so.

This is a small place to see a show - if you have ever been to the Jazz Cafe in Wilkes Barre, it is quite similar, possibly even a bit smaller.  But similar artists make their rounds here at the Stanhope House as the Jazz Cafe... so you might only have to go half the distance to see some pretty cool indie & jazz acts.

It is a little out of the way, about a 45-50 minute drive from my apartment, and I 80 west can be a nightmare during rush hour, so definitely plan accordingly if you are traveling a significant distance.

There's a great waitress there named Kelly.  Ask for her when you go.  Other staff are not so friendly!  Food is so-so.  It's would be great if they got some better music going.

This is a great place all around.  Good music, great food, and inexpensive drinks.  The service is friendly and the bands are good.  The inside is very warm and inviting.  So nice to see a place support good live music and do it well.

I was very excited to check out the Stanhope House. I went on a rainy Saturday night and made a reservation 2 hours before I showed up. Our table was incredible front and center for the band.

We started with 2 Stoli cocktails which were only $6/ea. sweet and wings. The wings were pretty good, they are cooked dry with sauce on the side. They did not come with the bbq sauce listed on the menu and the blue cheese was watery, but we asked for bbq sauce, got it and it was delicious.

Next I had the brisket with hush puppies and my boyfriend had the pulled pork. He said his sandwich was pretty good and it was moist with bbq sauce. My brisket was dry and leathery with visible fat in the leather. Again I asked for bbq sauce, trimmed the fat off and it was much better, but not by any means like my mom's brisket I was expecting and I would not order it again.  The hush puppies were supposed to come with a buttery dipping sauce we asked the waitress and she said they did not have any so she came back with maple syrup it was ok. French fries would have been better. The cole slaw was pretty good.

Also we noticed that our candle on the table moved a few times throughout the night,. I have never been a believer in ghosts, but the table was not shaky and my boyfriend and I both noticed it move. We asked the waitress and she said there is a long history of ghosts there. She said when they were renovating lots of things fell unexpectedly, chairs moved in the basement while everyone was upstairs etc. So be aware this place is haunted. I think that kind of adds to  the historic charm.

All in all a great night. The band rocked, drinks were cheap and the waitress was nice as can be so I would definitely come back for drinks and dancing, but might eat at home beforehand.

This place has been going on for a very long time. I only been here twice recently and they re did the inside. I went for a Blue's night and the cover band was great. They played great music and the guitarist was excellent. They had any type of drink you wanted and people were very friendly. The decor inside was great. It's def a fun time when a good band is playing. I have not eaten here yet, but I def will soon. I heard the BBQ is very good. Everything is also prices evenly.

The hubby is in a band and his band played here recently.  I was actually really excited as his band usually plays up north in Bergen County or way down in the Monmouth County area, which is far from us here in Sussex County.  So being the ever faithful bandwife I usually accompany him to gigs, being the DD when needed, etc.  We're always driving 45+ min to get to a gig.  So we we overjoyed when the band was booked at this place, seriously a 5 min drive from our house.  The place is huge.  The sound is incredible.  All the bands sounded amazing.  We also grabbed dinner, and the food was pretty good too.  Very tasty!  Drinks were also good.  I do cocktails mostly, and the vodka bay breeze was good.  Not overly strong, but strong enough to get a good buzz goin on if that's what you're lookin for!

I highly recommend this place and hope the hubs band or other bands we like will play here again soon!

This place proports to be the oldest blues club in NJ. The building dates back to 1790, before "blues" had even been invented, so it's possible. They've had many big names play here over the years. It is currently under new management.

I saw John Hammond perform here tonight. There were only about fity patrons in the place, but, aside from the fact that the show started almost an hour late, and then we were forced to sit through an insufferable opening act, John still did a great set. While the sound system is good, there is an adjacent lounge which had another group performing simultaneously, which was distracting, as were the overhead TV's in the bar, which were left on during the performance, until the artist demanded that they be turned off.

They have a large selection of beers. However, the food is dreadful. I started with the guacamole and chips. The guac was turning brown, and the chips were like dog chews. Their famous brisket looked like boiled, grey shoe leather. It was not properly sliced against the grain, and was chewy. The server did not give me any sauce with it, just dry meat slapped on a plate. I asked for a salt shaker, and some BBQ sauce on the side, which helped. The guy at the next table got the same dish, and was given maple syrup instead of the au jus sauce that he was expecting. WTF? The french fries were freezer burned and inedible, although the onion rings were pretty good.

Come here for the bar and the music, but avoid the food.

This place rules!  I had never even heard of this place until a few months ago when I had an awesome time there on a weeknight.  Good vibes (important) and the drink specials were decent if I remember.  I'm going back there tonight!

Amazing blues landmark!  Parts of this building are from the Revolutionary era, or so I've heard, so don't let the leopard velvet upholstery fool you.  Great beers on tap, and a bunch more in bottles.  Good soul food menu; the brisket sandwich was off the chain!

Most importantly, this is one of the most famous blues venues in NJ history -- many of the greats have stopped through over the years.  After being closed for two years, the new owners have really brought it back to life.  Check the schedule on their web site; local rock bands and noted DJs also frequently grace the stage.
