As a seasoned gay woman and a recent homeowner on the island, i am pleased to say i am a fan of Stars. Over my years of visiting gay bars, I have encountered women not being very welcomed at predominantly male gay bars. I have been to Stars with gays as well as straights and i can confirm we were all treated equally. During an unexpected stop there around Thanksgiving, my friend and I were invited by staff and friends of Stars to partake in a potluck dinner. We were unaware of their festive get together and had no meals of our own to offer. No matter, we were welcomed just the same. Since then, I have made it a point to patronize this friendly, fun and festive spot whenever I am on the island. I have read a review of staff not offering info on other gay bars on the island. I can say, not only was I offered suggestions of other gay spots, I was even offered directions. Stars... just keep doing what you're doing, you offer the friendliness of a corner bar and the zest of a dance party!

The drinks were stronger than normal and noticeably cheaper. There was toe tapping good dance music by the DJ. The bartenders were friendly. The drag show was good. When we come back to Galveston we will go to this bar again.

 After my friends and I were drinking 40s on the beach, we decided to walk into Stars. Best decision I've ever made but that says more about me then it does about the bar. Their happy hour starts at noon and ends at 8. I was drinking draft Blue Moon for $2.75 a piece on a Saturday on the seawall. Good times.
Also, they tolerated our generally deviant attitude. Even encouraged it. They have an open air deck that is great for yelling at women as they walk by. I was the DD so I stopped drinking after 3 or 4 beers but my friends were drinking whiskey and cokes and said that the bartender/gay dude makes a great drink.
So why 4 stars and not 5? The creepy old guy sitting next to our table who was slyly flashing his penis. I mean, I get it, we're all hot meat but the whole thing came off as just a bit tacky.
All and all I will absolutely return. I didn't mind the decor but that's because I really like exposed wiring. I can't wait to go back and see the drag/laser light show.
Popped in here while on a weekend vacay with the BFF. I lived in the area for 7 years or so & had no idea Galveston had a gay bar. We had 1 beer and left to have dinner. Cute little bar overlooking the Seawall. It was a late Sunday afternoon so not much was going on. They have an outside, upstairs patio I'd like to check out next time.
Review Source:Ok I know Galveston is a small tourist town (50,000 people) so one shouldn't expect to find a first rate gay bar/club in the town....but "Stars" is ummmm...podunk? Â I felt unclean sitting down at the bar. Â Seriously, I wanted to bathe in bleach afterwards.
To say the decor is tacky is an understatement. Â Gay bar decor is often a bit cheesy, but seriously this place looks like someone went to Dollar General and only picked out stuff that was on clearance. Â Really, who uses scotch tape to hang up stuff on the walls?
Oh and two drinks (singles) should not cost you $15. Â Not sure what its paying for, certainly not the decor or the bartenders's inattentive service.
