I drive through I-71 regularly and finally decided to stop here after reading other positive Yelp reviews.
We ate on a Friday evening during dinner and found the place crowded but not too loud. We ordered a burger (way, way, way better than the other interstate fast food burgers I grown used to along I-71) and a chicken salad sandwich. Â The burger was good and is recommended.
I should point out that I consider myself to be on sort of a quest to find the greatest chicken salad and try it all over. Â Unfortunately, this chicken salad did not make my top 5 list and I didn't even finish it. The lettuce was expected but for some reason seemed intrusive on this particular sandwich. I couldn't quite place what was "off" with it.
Our food took FOREVER to arrive at our table. If you're there when they're offering their dinner special, then get that because everyone else was and it seemed that everyone that came in was served before us.
The catfish looked good. I didn't order it because of another negative review on Yelp but wish I had taken the chance, given how it looked (good) and how long our sandwiches took to be served.
I finally got to try Starvin' Marvin's for lunch. Â I just pulled out of Tri-County Ford and heading east down Hwy 146 when the hunger pains hit me and I remembered that I've been wanting to try this place. Â I'm glad I stopped. Â I ordered the lunch special of meat loaf and mashed potatoes. Â It was a very generous portion for $6.99. Â It was very good, tasty and fixed just like homemade. Â I noticed they also have breakfast and dinner specials every day so I'm going to return soon and try the breakfast, either pancakes or eggs and country ham.
Review Source:Starvin' Marvin's is one of Oldham County's best kept secrets. Â We locals know that when you just want some good food you head to Starvin' Marvin's. Â
They feature some kind of special just about every night.  Each special surprises you because it's better than you expect.  Don't get me wrong.  This isn't Ruth's Chris but it sure equals or exceeds anything that Cracker Barrel puts on the table.
If you like good southern country cooking this is a place you should try. Â It's located just off of I-71 exit 17 at Buckner. Â It's in a small strip center next to a Thornton's gas station. Â Don't let the looks fool you. Â Friendly staff and good eats await inside their door. Â Prices are very reasonable. Â The Monday night dressed hamburger and fries for $3.99 is a steal. Â Tuesday is a sirloin steak dinner with baked potato , salad and cheesy toast for under $10. Â I live in the area so my wife and I eat there at least once a week. Â
So check it out if you get a chance. Â I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Worst catfish I have had. Salty tough fishy taste. Shrimp tasted like sugar and frog legs cooked too fast from frozen. Vet tough. Tea was good. Buffet kept in corner with heat lamp over. Food not fresh. Vegtables looked nasty. Salad bar a mess. Friendly people BAD food.
Originally catfish was freshly cooked per order for the all you can eat now its a buffet. The food initially was great but now the crowds have swelled and the quality has taken a nose dive. I will not eat here again until they change back to the way it was.
Business grew too fast. Fried catfish was great. It has slipped. I noticed a lot of young people cooking so i suppose its a lack of experience in cooking. It was most technique that was bad.
Gordon Ramsey would have a field day in this place. It has potential to get back but it needs someone that knows how to cook
I'd rather be Starvin, than eat here again.
We saw a couple of good reviews on this place and decided to try it one Saturday morning for a late breakfast. Â My wife wanted to go to Verbena's in Norton Commons but I was too hungry to wait. Â My bad.
I tried the 'Homemade Pancakes", eggs and bacon. Â My wife had the cinnamon swirl french toast. Â My pancakes reminded me of what you get a buffet line. Not tasty and tough. Â My slices of bacon were so thin you could see through them. Â The eggs were ok.
My wife's cinnamon swirl french toast looked and tasted like it came from a bag in the bakery isle in Walmart.
In addition to the bad food, it was more expensive than Cracker Barrel and not near as tasty.
I am so excited that this place opened in Oldham County!
We have a lot of things in OC - fun & games, beautiful parks, historic shopping, but I've always found the selection of breakfast options disappointing. Starvin' Marvin's Country Kitchen may just fill that spot.
I stopped in for a quick bite on the way home from the YMCA. They've been in this shopping center neighboring the tea parlor and various businesses for about 5 weeks now, having moved from a former location in Pendleton (at least, according to my server). The restaurant is spacious with a HUGE counter and lots of tables for groups. Charming. The menu is surprisingly diverse and doesn't stop at breakfast - I'll have to go back and check out their dinner specials (catfish fish fry and bottomless handcut fries on Friday may be the winner...). Good coffee! To-order food came out great despite my fussiness (egg whites only blah blah blah). Friendly service. Carrot cake and pies that were, frankly, just showing off their yummy potential on the counter under glass right in front of me.
Excited for this new restaurant! Will be back. The one detractor is I'd love to bring my laptop in for lunch and work with a coffee and pie one-two punch but I didn't see any advertising for Wi-fi. Maybe as they get settled in they'll add that service so I can find an excuse to come in more often.
