Ok, my fiance and I used to love this place. But the last couple times we went here, the food just did not cut it.

First, the fish and chips. The fish is not fresh, nor is it breaded in-house. It's just a pre-made, frozen "fish"patty. They deep fry it, and from the amount of oil on my plate it looked like they just took it out of the oil and threw it on the plate. The fries are just as greasy, and tasted like pre-packaged frozen fries, nothing special.

Second, the calzone. We had a few issues with this. The first, my fiance ordered a calzone, and made sure to let the waiter know that he did not want cheese in it. The second calzone, we order with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms. Waiter tells us that they don't have mushrooms, so instead we just replace it with more pepperoni and sausage. Considering we can choose four toppings, we didn't think there was an issue there, and the waiter took our order.

Order comes out. The first calzone had cheese in it. Ok, simple, we just tell the waiter and he admits that he forgot to tell the kitchen to omit the cheese. The second calzone comes out, and it's cold inside. We tell the waiter, and he takes it back to the kitchen. Then the owner of the joint comes out to our table. He tells us that it's "impossible to heat up the calzone" because we put too many things in it. Too many things? We chose four toppings, which is the maximum amount of toppings you can put in it according to the menu! He went on to say that it's not his fault, "physics" just doesn't work that way. What?! The owner clearly has no idea how to cook, and it seemed like his cooks didn't either. We just told him to do his best to make it a bit warmer. He left and we waited.

The two calzones come out...for the second time. The cold calzone was warmer, so we just took that. The first calzone with the cheese came out, it was warm, cheese-less and decent. Then my fiance gets halfway through it, and the dough on the latter half of the calzone was raw! We called the waiter over to our table, yet again, and showed him the raw dough. All he said was "sorry, wish I could do more". I guess when you serve raw food at a restaurant you don't offer to correct it in any way.

I don't think we'll be coming back here anytime soon. It really is a shame, this place used to be our favorite place to eat in the area. Great view and decent food. It just isn't the same anymore.

Great local joint with reasonable prices. Hubby & I bellied up to the bar after a long, strenuous day of work. The service is friendly & quick. Drinks were stiff. I got a huge buzz from 2 drinks (okay, I'm a total lightweight, but still.). All the bartenders were nice. We didn't order any food but I think the garlic fries smelled wonderful! Will definitely give this place another go for lunch or dinner in the future.

snow and tahoe lunch search...finding steamers along main road...small parking lot and entrance...near empty for friday lunch hours...standing around and no greeting...maybe upstairs?...halfway up the stairs and told upstairs dining is currently closed....back down and self-seating by window/corner...waiting quietly...bartender out to pass out the menu...thirty-two ounce small pitcher of tecate beer $five.fifty quite cheap...round of fish tacos $three.fifty each...poor excuse for tacos and no bueno....a thin sliced beef hoagie sandwich $nine.sixty-nine...slivers of beef tasting almost old and reheated....had better frozen microwave sandwiches in a box at the market....fries and beer, the only highlight for this lunch disaster...$forty-two.ninety-five balance after lunch and beer for four people...food and service is quite poor...

This place was meh. We were in Tahoe for a long weekend and had never been to the area before. We were just looking for a quick, cheap happy hour type thing. It was a Sunday night so all drinks were 75 cents off. Not the greatest deal, but I'll take what I can get. We got a couple of beers and also some tacos, which were $2.45 that night. Also threw in an order of mozz sticks, which were disappointing. They just didn't taste like mozz sticks...the breaded part had a weird taste and different texture to it, so those weren't my favorite by any means. The chips and salsa also were a little disappointing. They give you a lot of chips (salsa is already on the tables) but the chips taste so weird! Not your normal tortilla chips. Then the tacos...glad they were so cheap because they were nothing special. Everything was just blah. Our server was very nice, but super slow service...wasn't totally her fault, as it appeared she was the only waitress on duty for all of the tables. We'll definitely try a different place next time!

One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Long rage-rant ensues here, so TL; DR:

FOOD: 1/5 stars. Clam chowder was tasty; everything else was bad or mediocre. Tri-tip sandwich is basically some slabs of tri-tip on two pieces of bread. Wings were dry and just tasted like Tabasco. Cole slaw was weakly seasoned pile of veggies.

SERVICE: 0 stars. It was just that horrible. Made us all think that the waitress was either racist or just didn't like people under 30 (she looked under 30 herself though...). See bottom for rant.

    OVERALL: 1/5 stars.

Long review here; to be fair, I'll start with the good.

THE GOOD: My boyfriend, friend, and I came here after a full day of snowboarding because I had a wicked craving for wings. We were pretty excited when we got to Steamers, especially when we saw the extensive bar and cozy interior decorated with T-shirts from businesses around the area and a couple of large flat screen TV's.

The clam chowder that I got was the highlight of the evening - the serving itself was not generous but the amount of clams was. The chowder was slightly spicy but at the perfect level of creaminess.

THE BAD: I spend most of my time in Steamers wondering if the waitress was either miffed that our table was young (we were all over 21 but were also the only customers under 30 in the place) or that she was being slightly racist (we also happened to be the only Asians/non-whites).

I got these impressions throughout the entire meal, because she seemed to be cheerfully serving EVERYONE except us. Whenever she got to our table, an angry set of the mouth and stern glare would take over her smile, and she would speak with a distinctly curt tone.

MANY CASES IN POINT OF BAD SERVICE:
    1. We sat down, glanced at the menu, and the waitress was already there asking for our order. When two of us indicated we just wanted water and we needed more time, she left so quickly I didn't have time to ask about their drink options (there were no drinks menus on the table).

    2. When she got back, I asked about happy hour specials. She fired back, "There's none for food" and then just stared at us. Oookay. When I asked her how much the beers on tap were, she replied, "Well, it depends." When I inquired further, she said, "PBR is $2. Better beer is $4.75." Didn't mention anything about happy hour specials, what beers were actually on tap, etc. When I asked her how much Stella was, she rolled her eyes and said, "$4.75....."

    3. At that point, I decided to stick with water. Friend got coffee. When my friend asked her recommendation for food, she immediately and continuously rattled off items (no info about whether food was good, what it tasted like, etc.) until my friend picked the 6th item she listed just to stop her tirade.

    So far, so bad.

    4. After wandering around chatting and checking on other clients, she comes back and slams the clam chowder at the edge of the table and immediately leaves.

    5. When my appetizer sampler came, I was amazed that I actually got 10 wings instead of the 3 I expected from the menu. Yay, the evening was getting better. Poppers were okay, onion rings were standard, but the wings were dry and tasted only like Tabasco. Sadface again. When she finally delivered food to my boyfriend, we told her we were in a rush and asked if we could get the check early. At that point, she leaves, grabs the receipt, drops it on the table, and leaves again, without saying anything. Sigh.

    6. We look at the receipt - she charged us for the appetizer sampler with 4 items. Hm, so that's why I got so many wings. I usually only eat 3-4 at a time, so I was now extremely annoyed I paid an extra $2 for less than mediocre wings. She comes back to the table for literally 5 seconds to ask "how's your meal?"; as soon as the words leave her mouth, she turns around and leaves. UHHHH.

    7. We finish the meal, but I need a takeout box for the wings. Waited for her return for about 10 minutes, then got frustrated enough to go the bartender for a takeout box. Waitress glances at us, then returns to her conversation with another client. At this point, we were all raging, because the credit card has been on top of the receipt, at the edge of the table, for pretty much that entire time, and she STILL has not stopped by to refill my friend's coffee, ask us how our meal was, OR COLLECT THE MONEYS....

    8. After putting my wings in the box and THEN waiting for another 5 minutes to finish yet another friendly conversation with other customers, we finally just walked the card over to her. She drops off the receipt for signature and immediately leaves. No thank you's, nothing said.

Anyways, worst service ever. Not coming back for another dose, EVER.

What to say about Steamers. This place is GREAT!!! The tacos are amazing, maybe the best in Tahoe. This is such a great locals, place, but if you are just visiting, you will feel just as welcome. The bartenders are friendly and pour great drinks. It's not hard to lose time in there, because you are having so much fun.

    I defiantly recommend this place.

Local pub, lots of TVs if you want to catch a local game. Calamari and fried zucchini apps are good. The nachos were huge, but it all coagulated into a solid clump of cheese and chips glued together. Not good; we couldn't even eat it.

Then, I ordered a turkey and cheddar melt sandwich that was supposed to be grilled and include bacon (hence, the "melt"). Out came a regular cold turkey sandwich, no bacon. I told the waiter I ordered the turkey and cheddar melt, and he says, "we don't have that on the menu". I pull out the menu, and show him the EXACT menu item. he goes, "oh, i didn't know that was on there". Takes it into the kitchen, adds bacon to it, brings it back out and says, "oh, and you ended up getting avocado on that sandwich", as if it justified the mistake! It was still was NOT what I ordered since it wasn't a "melt" and not grilled. Ridiculous customer service.

Came here on a weekend trip to Tahoe. We ordered some beer, a seafood platter and some fish tacos. All were really good. The fish, shrimp and clam strips in the seafood platter were nicely breaded and super crispy. Definitely a nice find.

The primary restaurant of my choice had been closed, so I picked this since it was a close alternative. One of the main reasons I even considered this restaurant was because of the reviews here, and I had been referred by a family friend..

At my first impression of walking in, I was already disappointed that there was no hostess and you pretty much had to seat yourself. The menus are already at the table so its pretty much: Get in, seat yourself, and wait until the waitress/server gets to you, order drinks, and finally she comes back to take your order. I ordered the Steak sandwich which comes on a "french bread roll" with lettuce and tomatoes.

The only thing that was good about the order was the steak which was cooked to my order, but was lacking in seasoning and flavor. The french bread roll seemed as if it was sara lee sanchich roll cut in half but I could be wrong. The fries that came with the order were ok for frozen fries, but could have been fried longer. Another thing is they don't really use dishes at this restaurant, my sandwich was in a basket and a majority of the dishes are served on paper plates. I won't be going here again. Ever.

I chose this dig because of the Yelp reviews, but it doesn't merit 4 stars.  I'm wavering on the 2, because it's more like 2 1/2.  It's a charming bar, don't get me wrong, but the service and food were merely average.  The waitress forgot my chips and salsa completely, I'm sure she still charged me, but my father-in-law paid the bill and we weren't about to haggle over $2.75, but still.  The tacos were overwhelmingly ... average.  The rest of the party had cheeseburgers and fries, which looked very standard.

The patio was nice, good atmosphere, but the food was just so ordinary.  I can't believe this place gets rave reviews because it was just so darn ordinary.

After a long drive down to tahoe, needed something not too heavy to tie me over until dinner.  Found this very local place and decided to give it a try.

Fish tacos are not served on the wkends so I missed out.  Though I did get a chance to try the beef and chicken taco. The tacos are AWESOME!

The oysters are really sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet as well!

When I got there around 3ish, the parking lot was still full and I had to park off to the streets.  As I was dinning, people continued to flow in and out none stop.  Even with a steady flow of customers, the quality of service did not drop at all.  Thumbs up for great service from beginning to end.

    CHEESE CRUSTED TACOSSSS!

Steamers has some of the best fish tacos I've ever had!  The tacos are $3.25 each and a bit bigger than your standard street taco. Two tacos were just enough for me.  The tortillas are crusted with cheese and anything with cheese is just amazing, right? The Ohno fish was fresh, flaky and topped of with shredded cabbage and sauce.  Steamers house salsa is also pretty amazing and my table of four almost finished a bottle!

Seems like a popular spot for the locals as well.

I can sum this place up in one word: sadface.

We came here after being shunned from passareti's at 8:30 on a sunday night, after making reservations, due to a supposed oven malfunction. So we went here without paying much attention to previous reviews. This place is the master-suck.

We sat down, we ordered our our meal. The tacos were decent, as far as pub tacos go, BUT the hamburgers were the worst pieces of leather I ever had. I asked for medium rare, but I received some kind of tough meat that set up camp on the grill. I was looking forward to a hamburger in general, so getting such a horrible hamburger left me heartbroken.

    The beer selection was minimal...MINIMAL...

I come to this place at least once a week and have been known to come in at most 3 times a week. The tacos are amazing and only served on the weekends. The salsa is too die for as well. It pains me to give such a poor review. The only reason I am giving Steamers one star is because the service I received on Sunday 12/11/11 was atrocious.  I will start by saying our server was great, she always is, however, this is not the first time she has done this but my guests and I ordered 4 little pitchers of PBR and were brought Stella. Now this is a deal for some people as Stella is a more expensive beer not so much for me because I think Stella is gross and can be considered a huge lover of the PBR. I obviously noticed the difference and so did everyone else at the table. It didn't resemble PBR at all down to color.
When we told the server about what had happened and that it was the 2nd time in 3 weeks she said she would tell the bartender.  Well I guess it took her a few minutes to tell him because when she did my friend was standing in line next to the server station and bar when the bartender "Frankie" rudely told the poor server that it was PBR and he didn't know what "the fuck he wanted her to tell us." He then proceeded to show the server the keg like she was an idiot and she was born yesterday. All of this happening while my friend was standing waiting for the bathroom. In addition to my friend standing there I had a perfect view of Frankie, server, and owner standing and staring at us saying we didn't know what we were talking about. The server came back and said that they had been pouring this all day and hadn't had any complaints today. I hate when people single you out strictly because you spoke up. We then said thats fine but this isn't what we ordered and wanted to let them know because if it was a mistake Stella is far more expensive the PBR and want to help them and not argue with them. I am not sure what happened next but angry, rude Frankie was at our table basically telling us we didn't know what the fuck we were talking about and if we got Stella it was at the PBR price. This further enraged me because I wasn't there for a deal, I was there for PBR. I don't know many people that go into a restaurant order red wine and get white and are ok with it. After this whole shit show goes down my friend reappears from the bathroom saying they hate us. We were all fully aware of that. So now we spend the next 20 minutes feeling uncomfortable, neglected, and feeling like we are plagued with SARS. I then had to track someone down to get our check.
I am upset because the owner didn't come over to talk to us and apologize for the misunderstanding and was visibly seen talking about the situation. I will only come in  when I know Edgar and Marissa are working.

Yelped some different restaurant options, and decided on Steamers based on the reviews. Monday night tacos.. so there.

The waitress was friendly... the scene was a typical bar scene. Flat screen TVs everywhere.. I didn't realize how much we stood out in there. A lot of locals... and here I am with my husband.. just ordering food.

We ordered (based on recommendation) chicken and beef tacos, and a cheeseburger. TBH, the beef taco was crap. The chicken taco was 10x better then the beef taco.. so steer away from the beef taco. It tasted like dog food. The meat had the same color of McDonald's hamburger meat, somewhat gray in color. So yeah, chicken all the way!!

The cheeseburger was quite tasty. The bread is what made the burger good. Fries were fries.

    Your basic bar food...

Not bad,  The food was all pretty good, not the best, but great price/value.  Would definitely come back.  Didn't get to try much of the Football happy hour deals - but will be back - we tasted the tacos - great bargain (could use some sauce though).  The Servers were very friendly - That's usually an automatic 3 star in my book.

We are as at home here as we are at home.  Maybe more so.  It's like having family (that you like) serving you and making sure you are fed, watered and happy.  Very happy.

The Tacos are just the tip of the culinary amenities.  The Parmesan crusted tacos (beef or chicken) are the faire of the day (Saturdays and Mondays) for a pittance.  Will not be vulgar and mention dollar amounts, but will confirm that this local favorite can satisfy any budget.

And let's not be elitist here.  You can have your caviar in San Francisco, but when you are in SLT, get your appetite on and enjoy the Happy Hour faire and get your fingers dirty with the delicious chicken wings (hot and spicy, BBQ or Teriyaki).  I dare ya!  Double dare ya!  Sooo good!

Let's just say, that the cole slaw is the the best and freshest...the drinks are  way above par (don't be afraid to ask for the Grand Marnier Floater on your Margarita and the most important element...the people of Steamers...both the wait staff, bar tenders and the local following...it never disappoints!

The owners are there, front and center, making sure on a daily basis, that the quality and content is satisfying and pleasing to all that enter their warm and fuzzy environ for sport's enthusiasts, locals, foodies and folks that would rather grab a bar stool and hang in this wonderful place where food, drink and friendship gel into one of the best experiences of SLT.

An absolute favorite of ours.  An absolute must!  You'll never stop going there weekly!  At the very least!

Best taco's I've ever had.  I liked both the beef and chicken, but the chicken had an amazing smoky flavor.  The seafood platter was really good too.

The service was great and the server kept coming back to clean up and take our empty plates/refill water.

It's a hidden gem within south lake tahoe.  Will be back to visit!

I'm a local...we love Steamers. When friends want to get together for a beer...Steamers. When my kids want a hotdog or burger...Steamers. When some of us get out of work unexpectedly early at the hospital around the corner....Steamers.

The food... predictable bar food with some standouts like the tacos. They make really good mixed drinks (had Manhattans and vodka martinis) and have (at least they did have, I think) Stella on tap for the summer craving. The owners and servers are involved, easy-going and friendly.

The locals will be greeting each other and chatting, but if you are from out of town, feel free to introduce yourself and start a conversation. In no time, you will feel like you have been coming here for years- an honorary local. It really is a comforting, friendly place to unwind, greet friends and make new ones.

My family and I were vacationing in South Lake Tahoe and my sister was craving a burger.  I searched Yelp for a nearby bar and grille and found Steamers.  The restaurant is two stories, but the downstairs part is the happening place.  Upstairs has extra seating but is much quieter.  It seemed like a local hangout, with a lot of people who had just come off the slopes and groups of people in their twenties and thirties.

I read that the fish tacos were great here, but none of us were craving tacos.  The burger was only ok, with a really thin meat patty.  The steak dinner came with a salad, baked potato and garlic bread.  The meat was really dry and not very flavorful.

Everyone else around us was ordering the fish tacos, so if you go here, that is definitely what I would suggest ordering.  FYI, they don't have dessert here.

I live in SF bay and I stayed in Tahoe for 2 nights during my California Road Trip with Parents.

This place is so happening. Also it has it's own feeling to it.

Food, service and overall experience was just amazing.

Not a big fan of tacos but loved what they made for daily special.

People here felt like they are all family and they were so friendly and easy going. I had a great time having conversations with people here whom I never met before and it was bit unexpected to me.

All in all food is good and would definitely recommend it also as a nice place for a family dinner.

Writing this review after almost six months from here in SF Bay area for the restaurant in Tahoe makes me think how memorable it was in fact !!

I love this place... When I first moved here this was the first place I came to drink and since then make sure I go back every week.

Its a low key, small and inviting bar with a good menu for "drinking food"

I always come here to watch games and take advantage of the AMAZING tacos they only serve friday (fish), saturday & sunday(chicken or beef). The best part about the tacos is the melted cheese on the outside of the shells, Mmm..

On a recent blissfully perfect trip to Tahoe, a few friends and I stopped here to get some pizza. It was a nice enough day to go outside and get our grub on by the beach, so they let us have it to go in less than 20 minutes.

Aside from it being a wonderful idea (pizza + beach = awesome), the actual pie itself was insanely good. We had the Pizza of the Gods and a typical pepperoni for the pickier eaters. Both sufficed our hunger above and beyond expectations, and the former mentioned was quite possibly the greatest combination of flavors ever to grace pizza dough. Artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, garlic and pesto?! Let's just say it was dank and leave it at that.

I wish i would have know that i was going to be eating amongst an ongoing game of tag...

"So the babysitter cancelled. But we'll just let the kids off their leashes and have to rest of the restaurant deal with them. We can get trashed so we can forget everyone's dirty looks and wont feel guilty, kay? It'll be great."

It's a shame that the MOD wouldn't deal with this family. It completely slaughtered what could have been an otherwise lovely experience.

The food here is *shrug*, decent. I think it's best to stick with burgers and typical bar food here. Deviate from that and you're asking for trouble.

And come either in late evening or late afternoon (for lunch)...avoid "family-dining hours" in general.

    *grumble*

It's a BAR, people. It's on the frickin' sign. Who takes their children to a bar?

    Parenting fail.

    Order the fish tacos!!!!!

Happy Hour is awesome here! Came here with 7 hungry boys after going snowboarding one day and we were not disappointed. We were able to get a large enough table upstairs to avoid the crowd and watch some hockey.

I ordered their fish tacos which were really very good. I was surprised! Everyone else ordered a variety of food that they seemed pretty happy with. They also have a full bar and ordered drinks which the waitress graciously served to us.

I'm in Tahoe quite a bit and I would definitely come back here again for the fish tacos.

Stopped here on our way out of Tahoe, because the first place we were going to go ended up closed.

I had a Steamer's (steak) sandwich, with grilled onions and roasted peppers on it.  Wow, it was fantastic.  So many places screw up steak sandwiches and cheesesteaks with sub-standard meat, but every bite of my sandwich was full of flavor and not overly chewy.

I got potato salad instead of fries, and it was thankfully not the over-mayo'ed generic kind you usually get, but a well-season blend with little bits of bacon (!!!!) in it.  Score.

Definitely a bit noisy, especially if there's a major sports event on, and there isn't a TON of space but everyone seemed to like the food and the service was good.

Man, I wish I could get that sandwich again right now...

As a Tahoe local, you should trust me on this one...you will love Steamers.  It is a great place to eat, drink, watch sports and hang out.

For food, the chicken wings are to die for.  The hot is hot and the level above that...trouble.  If you are there on a Saturday you have to get the tacos.  Chicken or beef...they are both delicious.  I also like the veggie quesadilla.

If you are there when the weather is nice you can take your orders out on the back patio.

While in Tahoe make sure to check out this gem.  You won't be disappointed. I kinda wish I was there right now...

I'm not a Tahoe local, but my friend has a cabin in the area. Earlier this week, we were out trying to find somewhere to grab some food and drinks and we were very pleased to have found Steamers.

I was there during a weekday, and we sat outside in the beer garden. I can imagine the place gets packed during nights and weekends, but it was very laid back during the day.

Our server was very friendly, and delivered our food and pitchers of beer very quickly. Oh, the pitchers... let me gush about those for a moment. I love a big, cold pitcher of beer, but this was absolutely ideal. The pitcher itself was ice cold, the beer was ice cold, and all the empty glasses were ice cold. Perfect. I'd pay between $12 and $15 for a similar pitcher in San Francisco, and these were $12 each. Very nice.
The food itself was tasty and filling, typical American comfort food goodness.

My only complaint are the menus themselves; they don't list drink prices at all, and they have the space to do so. Hardly something to hold against the place, as I couldn't really ask for more than good food and good beer.

I love Steamers. I love the service, I love the location, I love the outdoor seating, I love the drinks and I love the tacos.
I can't really explain why.....Steamers just is it. Tahoe is a home away from home for us and as soon as we set down our bags our first priority is to go to Steamers. I spend the entire year looking forward to that first sip from a cold beer on their back patio.
When I talk to friends and family about Tahoe inevitably someone will say..."Have you checked out this great local bar..." and everyone says in unison..."STEAMERS!"
Steamers makes me happy, hopefully it makes you happy too.

Been to Tahoe a million times, and never checked out Steamers..was I missing out!! This place is a real downhome feel, super friendly patrons & staff, the owners are there talking to people, hanging out & generally checking to make sure you are enjoying yourself.  The food is delicious, cheap & service is friendly. Doesn't get much better than this.

We loved Steamers so much, we went back 2 days in a row.  The bar is small & rowdy, lots of locals.  Restaurant is pretty small, but has a back patio for summer months.  The front patio has a swing & is for hanging out only, no food service.

They do have an upstairs room for "private parties" but it looked more like a kids room and was kinda stuffy...downstairs is where it's at.

1st time I had the Fish & Chips - $8.50 - 2 pieces of cod, the fish wasn't the best, sort of dry, the french fries plentiful. but still very very good esp for the price!

Sampler plate - 4 items - $7.50, I got the jalapeno poppers (filled with cream cheese), onion rings (awesome), 2 orders of the chicken wings (spicy) it says on the menu 3 pieces per order, but each time, i had about 10 wings on my plate.

Beer ranged from $3 to $5 bux!! can't beat that!!

Super solid establishment.  This is now definitely one of my MUST GO when i hit up the slopes!

So its my 1st time in Tahoe, with the family...  and we needed a place to spend Superbowl.. so I do what every smart person would do in a new town... check Yelp for help!

Throughout the week they have a great happy hour... ALL Day on SUNDAY!!

    On this SuperBowl we experienced:::..
      - $2.25-$3.50 Pints, Specials on Pitchers too..
      - $1.00 Hot Dogs & Nachos
      - .25 cent Hot Wings
      - Half Time Free Lasagna and Salad (just bc they are so nice!)

Service: was great, they had only one girl on for the whole place, and she was nice, & prompt. We even had a party of 8, and we had a great time.. Everyone loved my suggestion of this place!

Loc: They are about 4 miles away from the Heavenly center, so not close for walking.. but worth the trip.

    I Will Be Back AGAIN!

In the past year and a half, Steamers has closed, been sold, remodeled and reopened with the same name, the same amazing $2 tacos and new flat screen tvs.  Though the service is still slow on busy nights (your best bet is just heading straight to the bar for immediate service especially if you are sitting upstairs), the bear is good, cheap and the new back patio and paint job are great.  The bathroom no longer feels like you might fall through the floor into the septic tank - it's clean!  Woah!

I'm not sure if Steak Night has improved or not, but I have a hunch that the new owners have probably made a few tweaks that would up the ante a bit.

This place is hop-in. Always a ton of people. Good cheap tacos. Good prices on beer.
It's near impossible to hear your friends though and the servers tend to forget about you as the night goes on.

We were looking for some good food after X-country skiing (I know, that is SO boring, but it was a Saturday and I didn't feel like fighting the crowds and the slush piles), and a friend had recommended this place,  so we stopped in, expecting steamed oysters. Wrong! It's a tiny bar made to look like a steamer ship, but set up with flat screen tvs in every corner for sports fans.  We appeared to be the only non-locals in the place. We look at the menus and our waitress tells us there are also tacos. So Jen and I get chicken tacos and Henry gets some sandwich with turkey.

Ten minutes later, the waitress  comes back -- they're out of turkey....so Henry orders the chicken tacos. In the meantime, not one person had ordered anything else but the chicken tacos and there are bottles of salsa on every table...hmmmm..our tacos arrive and they are huge, filled with lots of really spicy chicken, lettuce and tomatoes inside homemade corn tortillas dusted with salt/chili spice. Unbelievable! So good...after two of these, I am stuffed to the gills and very happy.

Then we get the bill...$2 per taco?  What the ??   Awesome.

I wish their name weren't "Steamers", cause it makes me think it's a seafood restaurant.  But whatever....

Great prices on beer, good old school rock, lively 20-30 something crowd, and the $2 tacos are huge, filling, and pretty good to boot.

Servers seem to get slow and forgetful the longer you sit and wait, then just when you think they've forgotten all about you they show up with the bill.....

A nice unpretentious (AKA rustic, and falling apart) bar.

A local guy that we had met skiing told us about the place, and their $2 Monday taco special.  It was a few miles from the tourist area, but it was nice to check out where the real residents of the area go out.

Plus the beer was half the price of the tourist trap places.

The $2 tacos were unique.  I didn't care for them, cause they were loaded with cheese, but I could certainly see the greesy drunk-food appeal to them.

    Would go back.

The $2.00 tacos and beer have done me right. I was able to reverse engineer their tasty taco recipe, but have to go back to compare.

Also, love the old school hard rock music selection: Sabbath, Zepplin, and more. Otto from The Simpsons would love this place.

Steamers is famous in Tahoe for it's low prices and tasty food, like their killer Tacos, which on Mondays and Saturdays are $2.00.  Great atmosphere and friendly local staff.  On summer days, there is outdoor seating.
Great place for lunch, and an evening out for drinks.
