I will start off by saying this is a great place to watch a game. TVs everywhere. Last time here was liquids only. Now that we have tried the food, I feel more comfortable saying that this will be a Tajunga staple. M-F, 11-2PM, all food is buy one, get one 50% off. We got the BLT with coleslaw and the hot pastrami with steak fries. Pastrami was excellent. Fries were perfect. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. BLT was a BLT, except I will say the thick cut bacon was perfectly cooked. Crunchy but not overdone. There is something off about the coleslaw. Too much sugar? Slightly fermenting? Not sure, but it's off. Staff has always been friendly and smiling.
Can't complain though when you get 2 entrees (all under 10) and 3 schooners (about 20 beers on tap) and your bill says 22 dollars. That's why it will be a staple (darts, pool, video games, etc.).
Nice local place to grab a drink and watch a game.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to try any of their food because the place turns into a complete concert hall on Saturday nights when local bands came in and play. I'm not saying they don't serve food that late because I don't know; I'm just saying you won't be able to get waiter service or a table unless you're sitting at the bar which is actually hard to come by. On the other hand their beer selection is pretty impressive especially for such a small place. I love that they serve their beer in Frosted Goblets . . . kind of fun and a bit playful.
Since the Steel Pit Sports Grill serves food it isn't considered a bar and seemed to be a popular place for teens which obviously makes it a little less appealing in my book. Sure, if I were a teen this would definitely be THE place to be on a Friday/Saturday night but I'm not . . .
Overall
I would consider it a friendly dive. I will definitely be checking out the Steel Pit Sports Grill for a game sometime soon.
Tip
They have billiards.
Parking lot is decently sized. However, if you plan on going for a band make sure to go early because it gets packed.
I went here because they're part of IDINE and a Steelers bar. Â I was surprised upon entering that there is pretty much nothing from Pittsburgh here but a few signs. Â It totally smelled of smoke and was more or less a bar. Â Had a salad which was Ok. Â So I ordered a Sierra Nevada and it tasted gross and flat. Â Bartender asked if I wanted another so I said, yeah, but I'll have a Stone IPA. Â So she asks, does the Sierra Nevada taste funny? Â Another customer said that. Â Thanks for NOT telling me. Â This place is real dirty too, not to mention the smoky stench. Â I doubt anyone ever vacuums and scrubs it down. Â So assume their kitchen is similar. Â Â Next best part is some pretty cool jazz band comes in and plays. Â Â Some disrespectful mexicans in the crowd start yelling "Free Bird" so the drummer throws his sticks and jumps off the stage ready for a throwdown. Â Â This place is a dive bar and not even a good one at that. Â About 20 dudes for customers and had the impression they came in most days. Â Avoid this place and certainly don't plan to 1) eat here 2) see Steelers stuff.
Review Source:I've been there many times to see the Football Games, and last night was the first time I went there for live music. Their food selection is good. The kitchen is open late. If you are going there to see a game, you can get beer in the Frosted Goblets. They use plastic cups on show nights. They have a good selection of bottled and tap beers. Bands mix their own sound at the shows so the sound is only as good as the bands can make it.. They have some clean pool tables, video games, and a darts machine. The main room is mostly tables and chairs so it it gets filled pretty quick.
Overall, it is a good place to see a game or a band.
If you want to see what a zombie bar must be like look no further. Man if I had to create the perfect buzz kill from the ground up it still wouldn't come close to this joint.
First the positives: Ice Cold Beer served in Ice Cold Thick Glass Goblets. Though I don't remember the exact price I don't recall thinking it was overpriced for the venue so I'm going to say that they are very reasonably priced.
Now for the non-positives: just about everything else. The food looked horrendous. When I was young, one of my favorite shows was "You Can't Do That On Television" on Nick. On that show was a recurring skit where the kids (including a young Alanis Morissette) would frequent the diner from hell where Chef Barth would serve burgers with boogers, slime, etc. http://www.youtube.com/w… Anyway, I'm fairly certain they got their inspiration from this place. Nothing coming out of that kitchen looks like it should be cleared for human consumption.
The people are actually quite nice as long as you don't mind the blue haired crowd. But I'm a firm believer that there is wealth of knowledge one can learn from our elders. Yeah, so you won't lack any resources on that note.
You know what? I just raised the star status from 2 to 3 just based on re-reading my own review. Go there for a ice cold beer, stay away from the food, learn something about the Great Wars from the friendly crowd. Ok, maybe it's not such a bad place after all.
I'm done.
Came here tonight with my dad and brother well lets say right off the bat, that the waitress acted like we didn't exist. First off she wouldn't let me order two beers without my 25 year old brother with me. (like I'm going to bring in a minor to get a drink for him). Idk her name she works late nights on Sunday with black hair and kinda chunky. (that doesn't matter but just giving a accurate description). She finally brings our beers and swiftly walks away when I wanted to order some food. I finally get her attention and order some onion rings but hey the cook finished them really quick. The onion rings were nice and fresh until they sat on the counter for 10 min without caring to bring them over. She also takes my ID says she can't read it do goes behind the bar to look at it with her glasses then comes back with it then does the same with my brothers ID. Like HELLO! Why don't you bring your glasses to the TABLE so you don't need to keep wasting time walking back and forth. The place was good for food I have eaten here before and normally pleasant, but this time I felt not wanted. Two stars just because the food is good and normally a enjoyable expeirence.
Review Source:I wanted to love this place but NOPE.
BBQ Brisket sandwich was utterly DISGUSTING and of course turned into a legitimate GUT BOMB. Â NOT ok.
Don;t have hard liquor, and their mikes hard/ smirnoff ice's are EXPENSIVE.
Unles you're really coming here to watch sports stay far away, far far far away.
Went here the other day for the first time for lunch. Loved the BBQ chicken sandwich. Very tasty. I am not a huge steelers fan, but the environment was awesome. The people were all nice and the bartender and other employees very courteous and professional. Will definitely go back again.
Review Source:ehhhh was not a fan!! I was excited when I saw how many draft beers they have but, I didn't realize that most of them would be flat..... and that wouldn't be such a big deal if the staff seemed at all friendly or like they knew what they were doing....everytime i go in there is a "new" girl...must be something to be said about the owners....anyway, deff will not go there to spend my money on over priced fried food, rude people and flat beer:( enter at your own risk...
Review Source:This place cracks me up for it is weird.
The Steel Pit is a few blocks from me, and always has Steelers fans in it with their caps and shirts from the Pittsburg Steelers.
It always has shady characters in it of all ages. Many pool tables here too.
Lot's of different beers on tap. Bands play on the weekend nights.
Food is ok only.
This is a normal bar. Do not walk in with any semblance of expectations. They have beer. Their fries are drenched through-and-through with oil. Their breaded fish in their fish-and-chips are as heavily-coated and soaked in oil as the popcorn-chicken-style dish. The owner seems to be a Steelers fan. There are a couple of pool tables, a dart board, televisions (smaller ones) etc. available. Come on. It's a bar.
What's there to say besides they do have a row of seats outside for you to sit and smoke at.
I love this place! Its like the best place to spend your Saturday Night! Erik is like my best friend! i love playing Adele on the jukebox for Rachael, because we are in love with her! By the way, Rachael is the bartender that looks like Gwyneth Paltrow. The Steel Pit is like Hollywood, because everyone there looks like a famous person. My favorite bartender there is Sarah, because she does everything so perfect. Heather is pretty and a cool friend to hang out with too, but if you ever plan on cheating on her, never tell her "it happens" when she confronts you. This place has good pizza, quesadillas, chicken, and burgers, and I just love the milk here. And as Sarah has always said, "Im a growing boy, so I need to eat"! It also has some good bands that play here. My favorite is bandwagon, because they were just so awesome and they let me sing on stage with them! If you like dancing, you should come to the pit because everybody loves a dance party. Ive been told that i am quite the dancer. The Steel Pit has the best jukebox in town, so if you feel hearing your favorite songs, come and play them on the jukebox, baby! I enjoy my visit to the Steel Pit every time im there. Erik really knows how to satisfy his customers. The empanadeas are really really delicious! Also, i have alot of fun shooting pool, so if that is something you enjoy doing, come on by and shoot some pool! The people at the pit are very friendly and it is such a nice place to hang out!
Review Source:I don't understand the 4 & 5 star reviews... Â
They do have a decent selection of draft beers and if were to rate them on that alone I'd give a 3 1/2 star. Â But the food is average at best... sometimes you'll get a decent hamburger and other times the bun is dry and nasty. The service is often very slow and frustrating. Â The employees are great people but they are usually ridiculously understaffed... I've been in there when the place is full and there is only 1 person serving tables & running the bar. Â It also can be somewhat grungy...
If you want to just sit at the bar and drink beer... then it's all good
I've come here many times because it's close to where I live and there is very little else in Tujunga. Â A few years ago the food was actually great, but no more.
Super Super Yummy Onion Rings! Like one of the best I've had! They are beer battered and amazing! Â Staff was also friendly and fast. My only suggestion I've been to the Steel Pit twice and both times I was in there that whining depressing Adele song came on not once but Twice! Let's pleaseeee remove that from the Juke box , I will be so appreciative and buy many many rounds of onion rings and Shock Tops : )
Review Source:Okay YUCK.
This place was so gross. Â It smelled like dirty bar nastyness. Â
I brought my brother here to watch the packer game while he was visiting, Â and we were both really upset that we had ordered anything from this place. We thought that since it's called the Steel Pit, and advertises it's self as a 'grill' that the food had to be half way decent. Â I ordered popcorn chicken, and my brother ordered pulled pork sandwich. Â The popcorn chicken had no chicken, just hard oven fried bread crumbs in the form of balls. The pulled pork made my brother sick later. Not to mention that the bread was soggy on the sandwich, with luke warm meat. Totally gross! Â
Also, I think the beer was stale, the two types we tried were flat, and tasteless.
The carpet was layered with grease, and sticky. Â It was peeling up like wallpaper, and I'm sure added to the awful smell in this place.
We didn't want to stay to watch the whole game, it was so uncomfortable, and icky. Â
I'm never taking anyone here again. Barf
My band played a show here on Saturday. It's in Tujunga so... it's nothing fancy but it's actually pretty damn cool.
The owner and bartenders were awesome. The locals/regulars there were all cool and into the music. The stage, set up and sound were great.
Cheap drinks and gigantic beers called "schooners" to quench ones thirst. And the food ain't bad at all. Despite it's location I totally dug it. I'd play here again and I'd eat here again too.
I am from Pittsburgh and love Pittsburgh sports. Â I went here for a game and it was a great place to watch a game. Â Obviously I've been to better Steelers bars, but not in LA. Â The place was completely overrun by Pittsburgh fans, they were doing cheers at commercials, so I loved it. Â Also, the staff was friendly and although they were full, they asked people if they wouldn't mind sharing their table with us.
Review Source:So good I drive from Reseda to Tujunga just to hang out here. And they have the best hot wings I've tasted in five years of living in LA (partly because they take the time to do it right - don't order these if you need to eat in a hurry - and they're well worth the wait).
The Steel Pit is a family-friendly sports bar and restaurant with a Pittsburgh Steelers theme. They have lots of TVs for watching sports, and three TVs dedicated to the nationwide NTN/Buzztime trivia and poker competition. They also have two pool tables, pinball, darts, and some arcade games.
There's a stage for live music a couple of nights a week. They also have occasional comedy and belly dancing shows.
The owner's family is of Argentine descent, and that influences the cuisine in a very good way. The empenadas are home-made, and the steaks are grilled with spices.
But the hot wings - I can rave about them for hours. They have a nice red hot sauce with a butter base and just a hint of bacon. They can take 20 minutes or so to prepare, and they taste wonderful.
They have almost 40 beers on tap, and wine, but no harder alcohol. Service is very friendly, and most of the staff have been there for several years. It's filled with regulars, and welcoming to new customers. Even with gas approaching $4 a gallon, I find it worth the drive.
FOOD POISONING!!!! I ate there on Saturday night 01/22/2011 with my Husband. We both got Food Poisoning... I started feeling stomach pain as soon as we got home from the restaruant. Couldn't sleep much because my stomach hurt so bad then woke up next morning at 8:30 a.m. and threw up for the next 9 hours. I am still sick, the vomiting has stopped but I am extremely weak, and my stomach still cannot digest food yet. My Husband and I both had to call out sick today.
So beware of the Food here, it didn't even taste that good. I had the Philly cheese steak, and the meat was pretty dry. I had to dip it in Ranch to add some flavor.
BEWARE.
The service was terrible. Although we were informed it was our server's first night. The food quality was alright. When your appetizer arrives after you've finished your meal, it's pretty disappointing. The beer selection is good, and the live music was a nice surprise. Only went because we had a coupon, probably won't be going back, despite its convenient location.
Review Source:Stopped by this place randomly on a Saturday afternoon for some beer and snacks, and my husband is a steeler fan. Big, dive-y sports bar, large beer selection. Most of the bar food is just run of the mill. But they also had some homemade specials including empanadas which were fantastic. nice surprise.
Review Source:Was on vacation from Western PA, so I was glad to find such a cool Steeler bar to watch the game at. The food was pretty good, but the service pretty much sucked. I'm waiting for another beer, and the bartender is text messaging on a cell phone. 10 minutes to get a beer is not acceptable!
Review Source:I live not far away so have been here many times. They've upgraded many of the T.V's to flat screens and for a sportsbar you can't complain about too much as the beer selection is enormous (30+ on tap) there's pool and video games. I can't recommend any of the food as it's just O.K. The owner was nice enough to give me 2 beer tokens when he saw we didn't like his pizza and he comped us some empanazas to try. Staff are friendly and it can get crowded when there are big games. There's not much competition in the area so it does well. In general a decent local hang out.
Review Source:All us Pittsburgh kids went the The Steel Pit yesterday for the AFC Championship game and I was not very impressed. Â Granted, we wanted to be around a bunch of other Steeler fans for the game, which was awesome. Â But, the service was pretty horrible and the waitress tried to rip us off for $20. Â The set up was pretty bad as well. Â They had a few prime spots in front of the bigger TVs, but they were all reserved. Â So, our group was forced to huddle around a small table for the game with the closest watchable screen being 30-feet away. Â What garnered this place 3-stars instead of 2 was that the onion rings were out of this world.
Review Source:I found this place because I went to the mechanics right next door. I grabbed a sandwich for lunch and a pop. They are open early for lunch. They have pool tables, juke box, and is actually a really nice bar and grill. The theme is Pittsburgh Steelers - hence the name. Great establishment and they have entertainment on the weekends.
And pin ball and other games. The patio is awesome too.
I am actually typing from here while the car is being finished worked on and there are about 20 peeps here for lunch and drinks.
Excellent place!
