I have some reservation writing a somewhat negative review but I have to be honest. I mainly go here because I can walk to it and its a Sports Bar. There are limited options in Santa Maria. I have been around the world and in many Sports Bars in the US and Overseas so have a good idea of what a Sports Bar should be.
Pros: Decent food and very good burgers and Garlic fries. Long Happy Hour is a plus.
Friendly staff and owner that tries to please their customers.Clean bath rooms are a plus.
Cons: No HD TV's and not enough 50+ inch TV's. Sports packages are limited as well.
In this day and age those 3 things are enough to loose "Sports Bar" status. Even the Roadhouse and Applebee's have nice TV's that Stinky's would benefit from. Most likely, this place does what business it does because competition is slim to none in Santa Maria and Orcutt. This area is in dire need of a Buffalo Wild Wings or similar establishment.
Last Thursday they were advertising the NCAA Tournament but when I walked in halfway through the first half of the Miami-Marquette game, I had to ask them to turn the game on and tell them the channels. That would never happen in say a Buffalo Wild Wings, Hooters or any other sports bar. To not even have the games on - Really????? To the bartenders credit, she immediately turned the games on and  maybe 15 minutes later the owner started turning the games on the other tv's.
The bar is in need of the show "Bar Rescue" as well. An upgrade would keep it going for many more years. I hate a sticky bar and fruit flies and Stinky's has them both. According to "Bar Rescue" Fruit flies are there because the bottles are not wiped down enough during the day. It's takes work but a necessity.
Food is bomb! Went in with a party of 6, first timers, very patient for us to decide what we want. Had a new waitress helping us, but she was actually better n nicer then the veteran one lol I had the steak. I will be going back, but maybe not with the family but instead with my boys to watch the game!
Review Source:The first time I came here a month ago I had the stinky burger and it was awesome, burger juicy, fries seasoned perfect, cheese all melty with jalapeños.  But this time I ordered the same and got different result, burger was dry and slightly overcooked.  Cheese was not quite melted and barely warm.  Fries were overcooked a little but still seasoned.  Plate just was not awesome like before, must have had a different cook. Servers are friendly.
Review Source:Pretty cool place, they have a lot of interesting stuff on the menu, from the usual burgers and bar snacks to a solid selection of chicken sandwiches and specialties, along with a good bar and tap. I love that they have a regularly rotating set of Firestone on tap, love the 805. Foodwise, I only tried the Southwest pasta, with its cajun-style sausage that was freaking awesome, although a bit too heavily salted. The waiter was good and attentive on a half-full night, and the prices were reasonable for a bit of a trendier place (for Santa Maria). I definitely look forward to going back next time I'm in the area.
Review Source:Stopped in here for lunch as I was traveling from SLO to LA.   Ordered a pulled pork sandwich, cole slaw and a Hoppy IPA.   This is a funky building, i can't tell but I think it is an old Taco Bell so I am sure it is hard for them to get a lot of drive by customers.  But inside it is a nice sports bar / restaurant.   Food was good and  priced reasonably.  Staff was great!!  There were two waitress working and both were sharing the floor.  One would bring the food, the other the water, the other check up on me, the other a beer refill.   Felt like 5 star service almost!   Customers were mixed (some drinkers and some there for food) and all polite and appeared to be regular locals.  I'll be back next time through and I even bought a Stinky's T-shirt on the way out ($17).
Review Source:We walked in and we also called 2 days earlier to put our names in on the ufc fight however the girl on the phone said it shouldn't be a problem just come in to buy your seats that day. When we walked in and it was early so no one wasn't even in the place. The Manager just looked at us and said Were pretty booked up. He made us feel like oh your not a local not interested in helping you. We even said hey will stand no problem and he said it wouldn't look good for us and he could maybe have us out on the balcony. But just by his lack of wanting to help us. I decided to walk out and try some were else which worked out better for us. Food could be great but if you have a bad Attitude no thanks especially if your the Manager
Review Source:This is a fantastic place to stop and have a beer at. Tired after work, I stopped in and ordered a Guacamole Chicken Burger but preferred it crispy instead of the recommended grilled. The burger was delicious and fries that came with it were to die for. We also order the spinach and artichoke dip - the chips were yummy and the dip was light and tasty (it didn't seem as fatty as other artichoke dips I've had). The atmosphere was perfect for a much needed chill and relaxing dinner. There was a crowd at the bar who were a little loud but it still didn't deter me from enjoying my meal. Would definitely head here again - especially if a foot game is on!
Review Source:Checked it out on our way up to Morro Bay and was unimpressed. Â It wasn't busy but the server got our food all wrong and the beer was flat. Â I pointed out the beer might need some looking at and got a perplexed look.
The food was salty and also not very good. Â But, if you like Chili's and Applebee's, it would make sense why you would give this a good review. Â Skip it and go to Pappy's or Jocko's...
I often go to Stinky's during football season to catch some games that aren't available to me. That, and the food is tasty, the beer is good, and the waitresses are damn cute. Very friendly, always smiling.
They rotate the beer on tap regularly, and I appreciate that -- variety! And thank heavens they finally got rid of the newsprint menus! REAL menus now- yay!
Stinky's Grill is an excellent place to grab a bite to eat and relax or sit at the bar to watch some sports. With over 16 different tv, you can request almost any sport show that is on and they have it. Plus good food at a reasonable price makes it a great spot to relax. The service is fast and friendly, making you want to come back time and time again.
The bar area stocks a large selection of liquor ranging from tequlia to vodka. Dare you to take a shot of the Remy Martin. The bartenders can make anything you want, just have to ask. If they don't know, they are glad to whip it up right there on the spot. They also have at least 9 beers on tap ranging from Guinness, Bud Light, Coors Light to San Adams and Heffenwiezen. Bottled beers are available as well.
The dining area is open to small and large groups. The area is comfortable to sit in and you don't feel cramped, so you can relax and enjoy your food. An open  heated patio area when you want to be outside, smoke or and also watch sports if you want.
Stinky's Grill is a great place for watching sports or UFC fights. UFC fights fill up fast, but they do sell reserve tickets ahead of time. Just walk in and talk to one of the bartenders or even the owners to obtain tickets and select where you want to sit. The reserve tickets are cheaper then walking in during the fight and you are guaranteed your spot(s) no matter what.
Sports from not just the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB are shown. If they have it on satelite or cable, they can almost always have it on any of the TVs where you are sitting. Â This is just one of the many reasons as to what makes this place a great find.
Stinky's also runs fundraisers from time to time to support various causes. How I can to know this place was through a fundraiser for Leukemia. I actually shaved my head to raise funds to support thier fundraiser.
So this is the best place in town to grab a bite to eat, watch some sports and relax with new and old friends. I haven't found a better spot and I don't expect too. This isn't a franchise, this is a local business with vested interest in giving the best to those that want it.
My family and I eat at Stinky's every week. Â Always a great food and on the rare occasion something is wrong, its quickly taken care of. Â The portions are always more than enough!! Their Prime Rib is the best around! Â My kids are always treated great by the entire staff and I have not ever left unhappy.
Review Source:Arrived late on a Sunday as the Sunday night NFL game was about to finish. They close at 9pm on Sundays which is right around the same time the game finishes. Happy Hour starts at 9pm too, so you have 1 minute to order a beer and drink it. No but seriously, the food is alright, nothing great even for pub food, but has a bunch of TV's to watch the games. There is a no profanity guideline on each of the tables....I mean what kind of crowd do they have coming here where they have to regulate the swearing? Kind of ironic that you have an establishment that serves alcohol but you can't use language reserved for grown-ups. Not that I expect to drop F-bomb after F-bomb but to have to put these rules on each table is kind of ridiculous.
The Mondo beer deals are pretty good. If they could improve in the kitchen this place has the potential to be a decent sports bar. It's a surprise because the menu offers so much more than your average sports bar, and tries to be more of a bar and grill, but the food missed the spot. Maybe it was because we went late and were the last to be served that night.
Whenever I visit the parent's I always somehow end up at Stinky's. I swear it is the sweet potato chips and chipotle ranch dressing. We went as a mob. My brother's family (6) + my Mom & I. Did I happen to mention that 3 in the party are under the age of 7. The food was good as usual & the service was fantastic. The server was so good with the kids and super friendly to the table. I tried cleaning up all the S**T on the floor before we left...however, I am sure I didn't get it all. The server was understanding and gracious. I will be back next time I visit, if not once more before I leave! YUM! YUM! YUM!
Review Source:I go to Stinkys about once every 2 months. Â I go to eat - not for the bar. Â So I can't comment on the sports bar part. Â I do like thier food. Â My favorites are the BBQ ranch chicken salad, and the buffalo chicken sandwich. Â They have yummy slightly thicker fries with a differnent beer batter type outside. Â
Service is hit or miss.  Service is the only reason I did not give them 5 stars.  I go with my family, and it seems like the bar area may get  more attention than the restaurant?? .......the ladies wear low cut shirts if you get my drift - it can be a bit much at times.  Sometimes we are well taken care of and I love it and other times we only get one drink because no one comes by again to ask if we want a second or refill.
We rarely have to wait to be seated - even on busy Fri/Sat night dinner time. Â Your wait at Applebees will be 45 min, and you get right in here. Â Way better than Applebees, and its local. Â
Overall LOVE it, but the clevage low shirt gals could pay more attention to the people in the restaurant.
Stinky's serves really good food. Â That's what I go there for. Â The Italian burger is heaven on a plate. Â It is a sports bar as well, so if you're into that great. Â I am a ROCKIES!! fan, so I'm usually out of luck there. Â But the food is good, someone on here compared it to Applebee's, not a bad comparison. Â Think Applebee's with slightly better food, more sports, and more cleavage.
Review Source:Have gone here a couple times for NFL on Sunday for Breakfast. Â Go Pack! Go! Â For NFL, I love this place. Â There are puhlenty of screens and each one has a tag below it showing which teams are playing also multiple screens showing the same games. Â There are screens outside if you're a smoker.
Good selection of draft beer and the breakfast is fantastic. Â Both times, I stuck with a standard cheese and bacon omelette, hash browns, sourdough toast, and a cup of decaf. Â All good. Â However, they forgot my toast the first time I was there. Â :( Â So the staff kind of let me down - but no problems my second time (actually much better).
The only other complaint I have is that my team has only won one of the two times I was there -- but I doubt they had anything to do with it.
It seems like a fun place when there's a game on, but I just wasn't impressed when we were there. As far as my experience, our server was helpful, attentive, and friendly. My bleu burger was delicious and the sweet potato chips was a nice surprise. I like all the sports-related decor too, even though I'm a Giants fan. :-)
Overall though, the place is okay. It's a good place to go for a game and have drinks with your buddies.
I was in Santa Maria for and heard of this place from some of my coworkers that work in the facility up there.
GARLIC FRIES are the best I ever had! Â They're the size of steak fries and are lightly breaded with chopped garlic pieces that weren't over burnt like most places you go to.
Drinks are cheap. Â From 4-7, you can get a Jack and Coke, Hornitos shot or a Jager bomb for $5; and, get some discounted appetizers as well. Â Perfect place to watch a Laker game.
It's been a while now since I came to Stinky's, but I recall it being a very pleasant afternoon.
There was drinking, and plenty of it. Â We watched football, or maybe it was baseball, or even nascar. Â I don't really remember what was on TV that warranted us being there, but I have the strong suspicion that the sports event, whatever it was, was merely an excuse for us to enter Stinky's and start drinking.
You gotta fricken love to go get faded at a place called Stinky's, no? Â
"Yo dude, where you at?"
"Awww... man... I'm getting drunk down at Stinky's!"
"Nice one, bro!"
Anyway, this place is cool. Â They got booze, full bar, good beers on tap, and some pretty tasty bar food. Â I shall come back, if and when I am ever in Santa Maria, which is almost certainly never, but then again, never say never!
