We stayed in the ski valley for a couple nights in June while we hiked Wheeler Peak. I'm so grateful that this cantina was open for business and ready to feed some hungry hikers during the off season. The food and most of the employees were fantastic!
Meal #1 (pre-hike dinner): I was so pleased that the server steered me towards something that wouldn't sit in my stomach like a rock during our epic climb. I had a delicious turkey, avocado, tomato, and bacon sandwich. My companion had a black and blue burger and loved it. Service was excellent!
Meal #2 (post-hike dinner): Blue corn chicken enchiladas with red & green chile. Scrumptious! Also tried the chile relleno app which was awesome. The Brazilian cocktail was strong as hell and kicked my ass after being at 13,000 feet that day. Our server was a little standoffish and seemed quite overwhelmed with her Saturday night duties (which I'm sure are miniscule in this light summer season). Luckily our server from the night before came over to check on us and clear plates from time to time.
We were toast after the hike and ended up getting a room for a 2nd night at the suites next door. This was a good thing because we got to enjoy...
Meal #3 (breakfast): We showed up at 8 a.m. and were the only breakfast customers at that hour. Our server was amazing and funny, what a pleasure! I enjoyed the huevos rancheros with papas (to die for). I split a short pancake stack with my friend and it was one of the best dining out pancakes I've had. Mmmm!
One of my hiking friends was camping that weekend, and he said it was his best camping trip ever because the cantina was a short walk away. I agree. If we hadn't had this delicious watering hole to enjoy, our trip would not have been as much fun. So happy to have found this little bit of heaven in Taos!
