We've stayed here four times - twice when moving to or from Sierra Vista and twice when visiting the town.
The good:
The price ($75-90 / night) was pretty good. Â Other places are cheaper, but the value is fair to good.
You can't beat the location if you have to (or want to) spend time on Fort Huachuca. Â It is also right across the street from a Circle K (great for picking up drinks or snacks for the room) and a short walk from the International Karoke, Sorry Gulch and a few other places to drink, if you are interested in that. Â It was a minute walk from the late Daisy Mae's Steakhouse, now sadly closed.
The hotel also has a reasonably good restaurant and bar. Â Its breakfast - usually included with your room - is a great way to start the day. While some distance from really good places to eat, it is within driving distance of a few. Â If you are up for a short drive you can try La Casita on Fry Blvd., which offers great Mexican food, The Diner on Hwy 92 providing good 50-60s all-American fare, My Place (also on Fry), a good Mexican-Asian-American fusion restaurant, and Arirang, on Hwy 92 and Foothills, which offers authentic Korean meals.
Finally, the pool is nice and offers a great view of the Huachuca Mountains and is a good place to sit and unwind with a drink at the end of the day.
The so so:
The quality of the rooms is not high and most have a Motel 6 circa 1985 feel. Â On the upside, they are generally clean and the staff - from the front desk to the cleaning team - were always friendly.
On balance while there are cheaper and more modern places, the Sun Canyon Inn remains a solid choice for people visiting Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca.
I have stayed here for extended periods of time. Last time was in 2011, loved the little bar/grill on the first floor. Bar tender lady was totally awesome, and during happy hour kept the wine coming! The rooms were decent, and if I didn't now live in the area, I would likely stay here.
Review Source:Great place to stay. Â All the staff was very friendly and helpful. Â Rooms and bathrooms were clean with great toiletries. Â Pet friendly also. Â They wanted to make sure their guests are happy and that was another great thing about this place. Â They have a restaurant called the brushfire BBQ in the hotel that served good food, too. Â They have a free brkfst buffet that serves real eggs, not the packaged kind. That was a bonus for me.
