We've stayed here four times - twice when moving to or from Sierra Vista and twice when visiting the town.

    The good:

The price ($75-90 / night) was pretty good.  Other places are cheaper, but the value is fair to good.

You can't beat the location if you have to (or want to) spend time on Fort Huachuca.  It is also right across the street from a Circle K (great for picking up drinks or snacks for the room) and a short walk from the International Karoke, Sorry Gulch and a few other places to drink, if you are interested in that.  It was a minute walk from the late Daisy Mae's Steakhouse, now sadly closed.

The hotel also has a reasonably good restaurant and bar.  Its breakfast - usually included with your room - is a great way to start the day. While some distance from really good places to eat, it is within driving distance of a few.  If you are up for a short drive you can try La Casita on Fry Blvd., which offers great Mexican food, The Diner on Hwy 92 providing good 50-60s all-American fare, My Place (also on Fry), a good Mexican-Asian-American fusion restaurant, and Arirang, on Hwy 92 and Foothills, which offers authentic Korean meals.

Finally, the pool is nice and offers a great view of the Huachuca Mountains and is a good place to sit and unwind with a drink at the end of the day.

    The so so:

The quality of the rooms is not high and most have a Motel 6 circa 1985 feel.  On the upside, they are generally clean and the staff - from the front desk to the cleaning team - were always friendly.

On balance while there are cheaper and more modern places, the Sun Canyon Inn remains a solid choice for people visiting Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca.

I have stayed here for extended periods of time. Last time was in 2011, loved the little bar/grill on the first floor. Bar tender lady was totally awesome, and during happy hour kept the wine coming! The rooms were decent, and if I didn't now live in the area, I would likely stay here.

Great place to stay.  All the staff was very friendly and helpful.  Rooms and bathrooms were clean with great toiletries.  Pet friendly also.  They wanted to make sure their guests are happy and that was another great thing about this place.  They have a restaurant called the brushfire BBQ in the hotel that served good food, too.  They have a free brkfst buffet that serves real eggs, not the packaged kind. That was a bonus for me.

This is a well kept secret. Food is awesome. The Brush fire BBQ restaurant located inside the Sun Canyon Inn is a hidden gem. BF BBQ offers so many variations of their BBQ (Ribs, Chicken, Pulled Pork, Sausage etc...) You also have a variety of BBQ Sauce to choose from.

The prices were good and I would definitely recommend this eatery to anyone who is in the Sierra Vista area for work or pleasure.

BF BBQ also has 2 locations in Tucson.

I'm on TDY orders and stayed here for the first few days in the Sierra Vista/ Ft. Huachuca Area. Upon Arriving the first thing I noticed were the outdated furnishings and rather dilapidated feel of this Hotel. The lobby smelled a bit funny and looked rather uninviting.

As I checked in the gentleman at the front desk was unfriendly and cold - something I wasn't used to in the hospitality industry. What was more frightening than the 1950's style decor was the elevator - rickety and seemingly very old.

The room dark and smelled of mildew - however did have a king size bed. Unfortunately, the king size bed had 3 pillows and a very very very thin blanket. I ended up folding the blanket over itself a few times in order to make it thick enough to do anything of worth. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. I'm a hardy infantryman, and by no means have difficulty sleeping anywhere, but when it came to this establishment, I wish I'd rather brought my standard issue sleeping mat and woobie.

My number one complaint would have to be the shower. Let me tell you, the shower was luke warm (yes, I played with the "don't scald me" switch) and the water pressure was that of a small child peeing on me. Needless to say I was unimpressed.

Despite this hotel's short comings I rated with 2 stars, and here's why.

    1. It's a hop and a skip from Ft. Huachuca - great for afternoon nap and lunch breaks during work hours.

    2. Because there are so few people (or so it appears) that stay at this hotel - the internet connection is awesome! Probably the best I've seen.

So, if you love the internet and naps and don't mind bringing a sleeping bag, extra hot water tank, and blanket, this place is for you. Everyone else - your car is a better bet.
