Sundance is a nice little place to have lunch in downtown Smithville. Daily specials are listed on a white-board by the front door, but menus with the standard items are also available.
In addition to daily lunch, Sundance is open on Friday and Saturday nights for dinner and draws a nice local crowd.
Portion sizes are generous, and the food is quite tasty. The salad dressings are homemade, and the house dressing is the best thing on the menu. The twice-baked potato is delicious, but rich, with lots of cheese, sour cream, and butter. The hickory-smoked chicken has great flavor, but the last time I ordered it, the meat was a bit on the dry side. I've had it before when it's been perfectly cooked, so don't be afraid to order it, simply be prepared to use some of the extra sauce they bring with the plate.
The catfish is delicious, and I highly recommend it. I wish fries were a side-dish option, because I love catfish with fries, but the fish is so good, I really don't miss them THAT badly.
Save room for dessert, as there's a good selection of homemade cakes and pies, and no meal at Sundance is complete without a piece of one of them. Get it to go and have dessert later on in the evening. The caramel pie is SO tasty, and the Tropical Mousse cake is to die for. Pies have sky-high meringue. My sister's a big fan of the Jewish Brownie, which is a dark chocolate brownie with a delicious "Almond Joy"-type coconut filling.
Go eat!!
