This place was so good, I could eat there twice a day and have no complaints. Their prices are reasonable, food is great (they bake daily), portions are good. For a diner of such small size, I was able to get in and out with great service. They were really busy but very well staffed and managed! Can't wait to go again :)
Review Source:We come here often most recently for breakfast which is their best offering. I usually get the banana bread French toast but this time with both got eggs benedict. Â Outstanding. Â My wife got the half order and I got the full. Â Both came with home fries.
Ignore the Phantom Gourmet ratings: that's all a bunch of crap. Â That's a paid service and a scam. Â The Reuben sandwiches are ok and lunch is pretty basic. Â This is a great breakfast spot.
The banana bread french toast is reason enough to visit this place. My son got a breakfast sandwich which was great as well. It's small with a handfull of booths and a counter, so if you are a large party, might want to go elsewhere. Quick service, but cash only. Can't wait to come back when we visit Lincoln in August!!
Review Source:A great place for a party of 2 to grab a fast breakfast! Â It's fast in for a small group - but it's a small place (counter seating with a few booths), so if you're numbers are over 4 I would recommend dining elsewhere.
Wait staff is FAST. Â Menu is classic. Â Prices are ~5-9$ (typical for a resort town). Â A cup of coffee, 2 over-easy, and a grilled blueberry muffin : ~5$. Â And they have REAL maple syrup (I hate when establishments in the Whites have the fake goop). Â The pancakes were a little dry, but I was pleased with my eggs and muffin.
A word of caution, but this establishment is $$$cash-only$$$ (sign on the door warns the unknowing patron, but I usually don't spot these until it's too late).
This place is conveniently located right next door to Clarks Trading Post. Â Plenty of parking but get there early or you won't find a place to sit. Â Seating is very limited. Â Food is very good, portions are just right and the price is right too. Â I had a western omelet which was delicious. Â I would recommend this place.
Review Source:BEST. DINER. EVER. Me and my family ALWAYS come here when we go camping up in the white mountains, it's a must! I've never had their lunch so I'm really only reviewing their breakfast, but I'm sure their lunch is great to! To start off I love the way the Sunny Day Diner looks from outside. It's like a big round metal camper almost. It's in a nice environment (right next to Clark's Trading Post) and the workers there are very nice. I don't know what it is, but I LOVE their chocolate milk. Their hash browns and waffles are excellent to. It's small (as a true diner should be) and its never to crowded. If your nearby check this place out, you won't regret it.
Review Source:We were in the area for a getaway weekend with the kids last winter and after reading all the rave reviews on this place here and on Roadfood - so we took a big sidetrip to try out this place.
My wife only ate half of her reuben - she said that something about it just wasn't right.
The steak and eggs that I ordered were weird and not all that tasty - I'd guess that they were/were once steak tips, except they were round-ish like someone had run them through a rock polisher for a day or two. Â They actually kind of looked like animal droppings.
The steak food was overdone and had a faint taste of some type of marinade. Â The kids had chicken fingers, which were good.
Since the place got great reviews for their dessert we decided to try some pie to see if that could redeem the place. Â Unfortunately the apple pie didn't taste any different than any other diner's plated up and Saran Wrapped pies.
After we walked out I mentioned that we should check the sign to confirm that we were at the right place.
Oh yeah, the waitress was kind of miserable too.
Sunny Day Diner has been my favorite breakfast spot in the White Mountains for years. Â The banana bread french toast, the salmon stack and the Eggs Benedict are fantastic! Â The only thing we've ever had that disappointed was the spinach when my wife asked for some as a meat substitute in her Eggs Benedict - the spinach was frozen.
The diner is a great old diner car style diner just south of Clark's Trading Post on Route 3. Â It's a fun place to eat, but the diner setting is misleading on 2 fronts - both the price and sophistication are above what you'd expect from a typical diner..
Things to remember: Â The joint is still cash only and there is limited space, and you may have a wait. Â Service is fast, and I've never had to wait long.
Home-made corned beef hash, home-made bread, fresh frozen muffins. What we got was really good, you can taste the home-made flavors. Prices were up there a bit, wait staff was average, like Flo on tv show Alice. They seem to make the breads and muffins fresh, but then freeze them. Our meal was still great, we are going back. Cash only, no credit cards.
Review Source:Cannot say enough good things about this place. This is my go to place for breakfast and or lunch. I've never had a bad meal. It's a little more expensive than other place in town but worth it due to the consistency in the quality of food and service. Â I've been coming here almost since they opened. There was a change in ownership a few years ago, they did experience some adjustment pains but eventually they got back on track. Sadly no more homemade ice cream but at least the bread it still made on site.
Love the banana bread French toast. Great omelets, poached eggs, eggs Benedict, meatloaf. Top notch dinner chow!
I don't know why anyone would give the Sunny Day Diner a bad review!! We were here Mon-Wed for a mini-vacation only to find that most of the town is currently only open on weekends for the next few weeks. In fact, we found Sunny Day by accident when the breakfast place down the street from our hotel was closed (even the hotel restaurant isn't open Mon-Wed!!) and we were heading to the only place I knew would be serving, which I also knew would be expensive. I saw Sunny Day right next door to Clark's Trading Post and knew it was a better idea than where we were headed. This has officially become my go-to breakfast spot when I'm in the White Mountains (and I go several times a year!) -- we went both mornings!
We walked into an empty house, but it quickly filled with locals and other tourists. The servers were super friendly; chatting about our plans, the weather predictions and other small talk. Coffees were immediate, although in typical diner fashion, was in need of a little extra sugar and cream. The breakfast options were diverse, but not crazy. All baking is done on premises, and it's apparent from the toast that came with my girlfriend's omelets each morning. They offered a half dozen different omelet choices, including salmon & cream cheese and mediteranean. I had eggs benedict both mornings, the first morning selecting them served on HALF A WAFFLE! Can you really think of anything better than this? The sweetness of the waffle very much compliments the eggs and hollandaise. My only issue was I felt half a waffle was a little light--I almost wanted the whole waffle. It also doesn't come with sides. Luckily I was able to share my girlfriend's hashbrowns (delicious!) and bacon (perfect!). Prices are a little higher than typically expected at a diner, but being a tourist town, I wasn't shocked by the prices--and it was probably the cheapest breakfast we could have had!
The Phantom Gourmet hasn't let me down yet, and he didn't this time either. I have been vacationing in this area my entire life, and I am hugely disappointed I had never found this gem before (that my grandparents owned a B&B might have had something to do with that, but who's really keeping track?), and am anticipating my next visit.
The Sunny Day Diner, a boxcor diner, located in Lincoln, N.H., is your standard diner serving typical diner food albeit with a little more creativity. Â Their banana bread french toast, while a carb counters horrific nightmare, is drop dead delicious. Â The prices are a bit high; but, you have to expect this in the White Mountain tourist-belt. Â
Astonishingly, they are only open on weekends.
The restaurant is a bit off the beaten trail being located on Route 3 (across from Clark's Trading Post). Â However, they are worth the short drive as the other breakfast places in the area are sub-standard at best (especially Peg's in Woodstock).
Typically, when I think of a diner, I think cheap eats. This is not the case for Sunny Day. Perhaps, any type of venue near a ski resort will result it jacked up prices for mediocre food.
I did not know Phantom Gourmet goes all the way up to White MTN so I was surprised to see that sticker on the door. Usually, when I see that sticker, I wont get my hopes up.
I'll tell ya though, the service here is slow. I'm used to fast paced diners. Power breakfast so to say. Good thing, we were only doing half day on the slopes so we weren't in a rush.
The breakfast is only OK. Oil was still dripping off my saggy bacon when it was time to be devoured. The sunny side eggs were a bit overcooked for the style. The corned beef hash is very different from what I'm used to in Boston. The OJ is from concentrate so don't bother.
Among 5, the bill came out to $62 before tips for a heart attack breakfast. But yes, we will probably come again since the selection in the area isn't wide.
WTF Yelpers. Â Here is another place I went out of my way to go to because of the Yelping, and I got screwed.
Everything here was mailed in, no care at all.  This includeds my Reuben, GrandMa's omlette, the kid's preformed perfectly round burger.
Prices were a little high for what we got, we thought.
This place has "Phantom Approved" stuff hanging out...as previously stated by other Yelpers, this is usually a reverse review to me, which proved to be true, pretty much.
Nice voluptous waitress, curvy and good attention.
After a beautiful ride on the motorcycle on rt.118 we stopped for breakfast at the Sunny Day Diner. Â You have to love an old diner! Â The servers were very nice, the food was good & we didn't wait long at all. Â I had the french toast...you get your choice of 5 different home made breads for it to be made with, very yummy! Â My boyfriend went with the eggs benedict on waffles rather than english muffin...haven't seen that before. Â All in all good experience. Â Two thumbs up=)
Review Source:We have certainly had what seems like a slew of sunny days! Â This past weekend my boyfriend and I and his friends went skiing up in New Hampshire. Â We could not have asked for a better spring ski day on Saturday. Â Although the lines at the lifts were horrific the runs made up for the wait. Â The snow up at Loon was fluffy and braced my falls while I tried once more to get a better handle on snowboarding.
On our drive home we all stopped at the Sunny Day Diner. Â The prices were reasonable, unlike at Panificio on Newbury Street in Boston. Â I blogged about that experience on my yelp blog. Â Here I didn't feel bad about a waffle costing over $4 and the eggs did not look like quail eggs.
I am dreaming of returning here for another breakfast when I am in the Lincoln area again. Â And I have to mention, if you are looking for a god place for dinner and a beer, you have to go to the Woodstock Station restaurant, the entrance is to the left of the entrance for the Woodstock Inn. Â This is a truly excellent place to boogie to a house band and grab a burger that is over 12 oz!
So...let's review...
1. Go up to Loon Mountain for some last-minute spring skiing!
2. If you are looking for a good place to have a dinner among the locals and fellow skiers, head over to Woodstock Station.
3. A stop at the Sunny Day Diner is a must! Â Currently they are only open on weekends but once the kids are on vacation they will be open every day.
Until the next review!
We found this place a few weeks ago, while looking for a late Saturday morning breakfast. Â It was great. Â Clean with typical diner decor. Â I got a corn beef hash & cheddar cheese omelet with a side of hash browns & coffee. Â This was the best breakfast I've had outside of my kitchen in a long time. Â If you are in the Loon Mt area, I recommend stopping here for breakfast.
Review Source:Food are carefully made here. They don't have any potato skin in their hash brown. None of the food are burned. Food looks very clean and less greasy. Every thing was made to the right stage. it reminds me my great breakfast experience in Neighbor hood restaurant in Somerville or Legal seafood at Logan airport in Boston. I will try this place again next time I come here to ski.
Review Source:I used to think this place was a 5, but after my last visit, I'd rather take my breakfast dollars elsewhere. They have some interesting dishes such as banana bread french toast, and great omelette choices. I had never found the coffee to be good, but I think that's typical for most diners.
On my last visit I was with another person who was also a fan, but we found the food to be bland and the service was terrible even though it wasn't busy. It was a big enough turn off to decide we wouldn't go back.
My favorite diner hands down. Â Upon serious craving I have even driven the 2 & 1/2 hours up only to eat there and come 2 1/2 hours back home. Â No joke.
Every trip to the white mtns. includes a mandatory stop (or 10) at the Sunny Day Diner for us. Â It gets busy sometimes, so either go at off hours or prepare to wait. Â I am a super fan of the sausage gravy and biscuits, which they serve alongside eggs and hash browns. Â Check out the specials board for creative pancake, french toast & omelet variations. Â Their bacon is outstanding. Â You won't be disappointed.
So, it turns out the Papermill theater kids are NOT the only gays in Northern New Hampshire! Â You'll find some staffing the Sunny Day diner too!!
My gf and i received grade-A service along with that friendly nod of acceptance that you get when you pass other lesbians on the street(it's kind of the same as when jeep owners wave at each other because they're both driving jeeps)
My omelete was perfect, with fresh veggies and cheddar cheese stretching down from my fork to my plate with every bite. Jennie B. enjoyed her breakfast sandwich, but wished that her bagel was a little more crispy on the outside. The homefries/hash browns were wonderful, however the only thing keeping this place back from 5 stars is the fact that these home fries/hash browns don't come with the omelets... you have to order them seperately as a side... my breakfast (with coffee and orange juice) ended up costing over 10 dollars. That seemed a little steep for a diner.
Otherwise, this place hit the spot.
Love this place. Â I've been a bunch of times and it varies between stuffed to the gills with people or pleasantly empty. Â Hit it during the off season if you can. Â The food is great, last time I had the salmon and cream cheese omlette, yum. Â Coffee is always refilled, the breakfasts are hot off the grill, you can't go wrong with this place.
My only complaint is they don't have Coke in glass bottles, that would seal the deal for the ultimate diner experience.
I love you Johnnycakes.
You want to hear that line from all of your smart-ass friends? Bring them to an old-school rail car diner in the White Mountains, and this place has that feel. Minus the gay mobster making googoo eyes at the cook.
In all seriousness, the food here is outstanding and the atmosphere is retro without being cutsey and kitschy. The banana bread french toast will melt your brain. Great location right off the highway too.
This place makes me long for country living. If you want gourmet food in a homey atmosphere and want the price to be reasonable you must try this diner. If you have been in the area and have not been to this place shame on you.
The cook is a professionally trained chef from NY. The menu has your basics and sometimes even throws a few surprises your way. The last morning I went they had linguisa (yup, I'm a Portugue) on the menu.
I am a dessert freak and this place does it for me. Many a morning I have been tempted to just start with a piece of pie; Or maybe finish with one. I am on a quest for the best pie ever made. I have never had lunch there but I have plans for it.
My biggest beef and heartbreak is that damn line I have to wait through, it was freezing out. The space is typical diner, limited seating. A few booths and a counter area. And the wait staff is kick ass and will try to accommodate you if they can. But do not sass them they are the real deal. Tip well.
If I keep writing I see a long ride in my future. Diner on..........
