Sunset Lounge Bullet Points:
-It's a dark cave for miscreants to seek solace in cheap cocktails.
-Their menu references a MySpace page, circa 2007. (It was a good year??)
-Their liquor selection is a whole lotta *yawn*, but  redeem themselves with decent cider/beer selection.
If you happen to be in the area, pop in for some cheap drinks in a decent dive bar setting. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll make it in time for karaoke. If you're SUPER lucky, you'll have a tall, dark and handsome man serenade you with Van Halen's cover of "Pretty Woman"....er wait....y'all ain't that lucky.
Simple review.... Dive bar, porn shop behind the bar and a sleazy looking motel next door. Â I recommend not to shake hands with anyone in the bar. Food is dry and could possibly be used to hang something on the wall with. Â Someone actually brought their kids in this place. Â The drinks are strong but not a date spot.
Review Source:The food here can range from nasty to great it all depends on who your cook is. I can tell you right now that the best cook here comes in on Saturday at 2pm I believe his name is Jose bald head gentleman makes the best food in Escondido.
I came in this past Saturday morning only to find out we had a new cook-not a fan the double bacon cheeseburger was ok but the onion rings were nasty greasy.
To be fair i'm sure in time this new young cook will only get better.
A dive for all seasons - they've been here forever. Decent prices on cocktails and beer, and there's an adult store next door for those adventurous types or if your date gets amorous. Karaoke is usually the entertainment, but prices and service are good. Don't take a first date here, as it won't impress.
Review Source:I'll start off with the nice things I have to say about this place which include: the nice people I met there, the security guy who led us out the back so creepy dudes wouldn't follow us out into the parking lot, cheaap drinks.
Now to the bad stuff. Worst worst worst bartender EVER! I was totd that she was the owner which makes it only worse because you'd think that someone who owned the place would care more about the service at her establishment. Not only was there not a bartender anywhere near the bar multiple times we went to order a drink, you could often find her grinding up on some guy or outside on the patio. Sure, drinks are cheap but honestly, I would mind paying a bit more for a better bartender. Also, the place is a little skeevy and I wouldn't want to see the place with the lights on (but then again, I feel this way about a lot of bars).
Been to the Sunset Lounge about 3-4 times and every-time we go there and start a tab it seems as though the prices are a little high when the bill arrives. Â Sure enough the bartender we had confirmed that some or the bartenders may not be very legitimate. Â So with that said she told us to pay cash when we come in. Â Can't believe that she told us...but she did.
The drinks are stiff but you end up getting stiffed by a high bill. Bring cash and you should be fine. Â
Not sure if we will frequent The lounge as much after being informed of the dishonesty.
If you are looking for a dive bar, this is the place. If you are looking for cheap drinks then go to another establishment.
Why do people come here? well for one, if you live in Escondido, there aren't a lot of bars to go to so people choose this dive. I've never eaten here, I've just gone at night to enjoy the bar. The bartender is nice but seems a little out of it.... We ordered drinks and he didn't remember if we paid and kept insisting that we did, so we basically got our drinks for free. I guess thats a good thing, but the place wasn't busy, how can he not remember if we paid??
There's karaoke which is amusing, but it can get annoying if someone really drunk is up there. I guess this is a fun place to go for a semi high school reunion or a potentially free drink, but i would say take some time to drive to a better bar if you have the time.
If you don't mind watching the bartender serving an obviously pregnant girl a cocktail and then lighting her cigarette then this place is for you. Â Oh, also if you don't mind walking in on some guy doing blow or most likely meth in the bathroom they this place is certainly for you. Â Its only saving grace is the overpriced drinks, the painful to look at hookers who prowl the place looking to bring fresh victims to the skeezy hotel next door, and the 50 to 60 year old men trying to scam on 21 year old women. Â It gets one star because I like to people watch and for that, this place never disappoints.

The good... Â
Food can be pretty tasty actually. It may even be tastier because you expect it to be shitty but its not. If that makes sense.
Football. They have the Ticket. There is an inconsistent crowd usually for football which means you can choose the games you want.
They have a fairly cool patio with some heaters and wee TVs. Mostly its just for people to take their drinks outside to smoke.
The bad....
Havent met too many servers there that I liked. Most of the girls get drunk and then talk your ear off. They also flirt with every penis in there... Â I will tell you that I know alot more men who love this place than women. ; ) Â
The cook staff can be very strange people. I'll just leave it at that.
There are usually some leering and odd old characters at the Sunset.
Its kinda dirty... but what bar isnt!
So, in conclusion. If you want to go to a random uber dive bar in Escondido i'd give it a try. You either like it or hate it!
want to sing karoake in a dive bar and then sit awkwardly by yourself sipping your wallpaper-strippingly strong drink by yourself while your gay friend gets a handjob in the bathroom? Â sunset's the place.
