Wow! Simply great Mexican food. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I had to eat at Jalepenos. Upon arrival, it "looked" right! By that, it had the colors, the appearance, and the smell that I need when I crave Mexican.

You enter at the ordering counter and are greeted by a very nice, hard working gentlemen who knows his stuff. My party of three grabbed a paper menu and sat for 5 minutes going over it in detail to grab a bit of everything. We ordered chips and salsa, large guacamole, wet burrito (spicy) dinner, Chile rellano dinner, carnita gorditas dinner, two chicken fajita tacos, enchiladas and taquitos dinner and a couple of beers.

The chips and salsa were amazing; fresh, homemade, hot chips, fresh chunky salsa (not liquified). The guacamole was very good; chunky but smooth. In fact, I ordered more chips and salsa because they were so good! I always judge a Mexican restaurant by the initial quality of their chips and salsa, so I had very high expectations for the food.

Our dinners did not disappoint!  Fresh, hot, and packed with flavors!  I started on the spicy burritos with shredded beef. Simply great! Smothered with cheese, ot was what a burritos should be. The rice was great and the beans had a unique flavor that was deliciously different.

Then the food swapping started! The carnita gordita's were amazing! Probably one of the best foods I ever ate. Everything was flavorful, plentiful, and lived up to my expectations! I will be back, at least once a week....!

After a round of golf in Naples we cruised all the way up 41 to this awesome taqueria.  They we're out of the fish tacos - which my wife was looking forward to.  She settled on the shrimp and they we're excellent.  I had 2 carnitas tacos and one carne asada.  The carne asada was good - I've had better.  But the pork carnitas tacos were some of the best I've ever had.  The chips and pico we're fresh and delicious.  The service was excellent - a very friendly staff.  I'll definitely be back here again.  Now back to the lame mexican food in Seattle!

We stopped by here for a late lunch because of the Yelp ratings.  Ordered the Chili con Queso, chips were great but the cheese dip was out of a can so that was a little disappointing but they had jalapenos available so it was okay.  We ordered the taquitos, chicken and beef and we would highly recommend them, they were great!  My husband also ordered a shredded beef burrito, smothered and it was okay, more beans & rice than beef and "smothered" wasn't.  Keep in mind we are from New Mexico so our expectations are pretty high.

The guacamole looked fantastic, we saw some other diners had ordered and we had a small amount on our taquitos.  Salsas were very tasty.

We would go back and try some other things on the menu.  Our bill for 2 was $28 which I thought was a little high but we did order a soda & beer with our meals.

Cheap and delicious Tex mex food! Nothing more can describe this place, great service, great food low prices. I usually order the taquitos combo with rice and beans and they are never disappointing.

Authentic Mexican food with a good price and excellent taste.  We usually go for the wet chicken burrito - and their green sauce is way-good.

Definitely a hole-in-the-wall eatery, but you won't regret this place.

Great taquitos, guac and chips.  The pico is very good, has a citrus flavor to it.

    Great service, quick.

The carnitas was very tender and flavorful.
    Chicken tacos were great.

Nachos for my younger kids was a winner as well.  Only small point was that the carne asada was a bit salty.

All in all great food for the value.  The sopes were great too.

Would have been 4.5 if an option.

    Good stuff.

I have been eating here for years and it is second to none!  Very authentic!  The horchata is the best, you gotta try it. Also, the chimichanga is to die for.

I go here all the time when in Ft Myers and order 3 tacos.  They are possibly the best I have ever had.

Holy crap, this is one of the BEST (and cheapest) Mexican places I have ever eaten at. Totally authentic and amazing!! I got the wet cheese and bean burrito with rice and beans on the side and everything was sooo goooddd. FYI, this is a total hole in the wall with no frills, so don't go expecting on the border type food (aka FAKE!). You order from a counter and there's lots of seating everywhere, so find a place to plant  and enjoy your food, but beware of the flatulence that'll occur afterwards.

I tried Jalapenos for lunch.  I am visiting from Minnesota and wanted a quick place for lunch.  I checked out my Yelp app on my phone and quickly found this place.  I was greeted by a very nice Mexican woman and I quickly ordered 2 corn tortilla carnitas tacos and 2 pork tamales.  For good measure I threw in chips, guacamole, and a Negra Modelo (YES, THEY HAVE BEER!).

I was served the chips and guac almost immediately.  They were amazing!  Home made corn tortilla chips and out of this world guac.  Nice and chunky...just how I like it.

The tacos and tamales quickly followed.  The tacos had a little bit of red onion and cilantro on them.  I squeezed a little lime on them and added some red hot sauce (you can find red & green by the pop machine).  Fantastic.  Juicy pork...good flavor and nice corn tortillas (two for each taco).

I unraveled the tamales and was pleased to discover that they were not dried out and they had a good deal of pork in them.  The two biggest mistakes Mexican places make is drying them out and having a minuscule amount of meat.

The atmosphere is casual and I found the place pretty clean.  Definitely two thumbs up for this place! It really hit the spot.

I finally had the chance to eat at their this location.  I wasn't very satisfied with the dish I had but the service and people were awesome!  I ordered  two Carne Asada Tacos to-go with an Horchata.  The meat wasn't tasty and it was a bit chewy.  They do have the BEST horchata though.  The lady at the counter said they have been voted for the best Horchata in town.  I have also eaten at the Edison Mall location when it was open, it's no longer there.  I had a Carne Asada Chimichanga and it was very tasty.  So maybe I just had a bad run in with the tacos I got at their other location? I would go back to try something different and get more horchata!!

You have to appreciate this place for what it is: a hole in the wall that serves cheap, tasty Mexican food without all the hoopla!
Right when you walk in, go to the counter or stand in line. Be prepared to order when you get up to the counter, pay and get your number (it helps to have some rudimentary spanish skills in learning the numbers dept. but they help out a dumb, gringo-ette like me and will call out the numbers in English too when your food is ready. Go up and pick it up.  Self service on the drinks as well. Horacha is tasty (from those in the know).  This restaurant also has 2 other locations: one in the Edison Mall and one located on College parkway--the food in the mall is not too bad, but the location on College Parkway OVERSALTS ALL THEIR FOOD AND THE SERVICE SUX!!!
Stick with this location and be prepared to enjoy the moment with driving to Ballard and Ortiz and run the risk of a car-jacking.  Oh yeah, during lunchtime, the place is packed with all the downtown, whitecollar dudes-attorneys (defense and state), judges, so you know if those sharks will eat there, it must be okay. In the evening, it turns into  a mostly Latino/a crowd-lovely families and friends enjoying each other's company.
Be wary of the back of the restaurant near Cleveland Ave. by the door that doesn't open, there is a mouse who lives there--and he's not afraid to come out and visit.  Bathrooms are sketchy, but I'm there for the fabulous tacos and guac.
