If I could, I would give NO star at all.  We went last evening to have a drink and some food and especially to see if our favorite employees were back to work.  Nope.

The waitress/bartender/busser proceeded to tell three tables of guests (thinking we were only here too attend the Bach festival as the other two tables were) that the new owners were NOT interested in local business at all.  They did not want locals who wanted a happy hour and only pay five dollars for drinks.

They especially don't want "little old ladies with plastic lined purses" who take the free cheese home.  I have NEVER seen anyone do anything like that.  Ever.  And those ladies do not carry plastic lined HANDBAGS but carry Chanell and Prada, thank you very much, barmaid.  (shame on me here but I am really ticked!)

She also told all of us she was SICK of people asking for Noe.  He tended bar there for 33 years, why wouldn't people ask for him?  This was all said in a very LOUD voice.

Noe has class.  Noe is soft spoken.

We got the message. There are many very nice bar menus in town and yes, they do have happy hours.   So, my friends, we will see you in those places now.  I thought all the locals should know how La Playa feels about us.

We went into the bar and I thought I was in that Somewhere in Time movie. Good news was that the drink prices were as lost in time as the decor.  The bartenders are as old as the leather chairs but very pleasant chaps. My friend kept complaining about how sour her drink was and they kept adding stuff to it until we had to hold her hand down the stairs.
This will be on my repeats for future trips!

I like the Terrace Grill Bar at the La Playa Hotel in downtown Carmel.  It's great to visit with a friend or that special someone when you need time to talk and relax.

When you enter the hotel and walk past guest reception into the lobby, the pathway to your right leads you to the Terrence Grill Restaurant and the bar (the bar's on the right).  The bar is kind of old school with lots of brass and wood furniture.  The wait staff is really friendly.  The bar offers a wide range of California wines to try.  They also offer a limited food menu to order from.

The hotel is a romantic Mediterranean type villa.  From the bar, you can go out through the door opposite the bathrooms and walk right into the garden, which is always well-kept and fragrant and fun to walk through.

If the moon is out and the sky is clear, walk two blocks down 8th Avenue and you'll come to Carmel Beach, which with its white sand and cypress trees is one of the world's most beautiful beaches.

The bar is open from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM and offers a happy hour and Sunday brunch.

    Enjoy!
