Disappointing!! We've eaten here before and it's been good. I like the pumpkin curry a lot. Went at 2pm (they close at 2:30) so not sure if that had anything to do with the sub par lunch we were served. We each got one of the specials of the day. Hubby ordered the firecracker chicken and shrimp. I ordered the salmon curry. Nothing too great about either one. Both came with an soggy, stale, half fried spring roll. My lunch consisted of cabbage, carrots and a previously frozen square piece of microwaved salmon that didn't taste too fresh. The rice even tasted old. It was covered in a curry sauce that was the only hot (temperature) thing about the dish. My husbands fried chicken pieces were ok, but the shrimp was like the frozen fried shrimp you get from the store all covered
with a sweet and spicy sauce. It was obvious that the "specials" of the day were meant to get rid of the leftovers.

I've been here a couple of times, and just didn't like this place either time. After the second visit, I decided it would be my last.

And it isn't that I don't like Thai food. I do. But there are definitely better places to get it than here. Definitely.

As an alternative, I would recommend Thai Peppers. WAY better. There's not even any comparison between the two.

Aside from Patrick understanding customer service 100%, his journey with this restaurant is no less like the story of Job. He is an inspiration. His food is delicious. We always get the peanut chicken, thai iced tea, spring rolls (not the fried ones) and the magic noodle dish. Oh, and the wonton soup is di-vine! Thai Xpress is inexpensive and it will not disappoint.

Best Thai food anywhere!!  I travel a lot for work and I haven't found a Thai place anywhere in the US that is as good as Thai Xpress in Springfield, MO.

This isn't a place to come for ambiance, but the food is awesome and so is Patrick the owner.

Favorites:  McQueary Chicken, Vegetable Curry, Pad Thai, Magic Noodle.  My kids love the s&s chicken--it's a little different from most Chinese restaurants.

All the food is full of flavor and super scrumptious!  Prices are very reasonable too.

Great good and a really good price. Have loved Patrick and have followed them for over 10 years since Thai House was on Sunshine. Pad Thai is always good, but keep trying new things. Everything is good. Love the drive thru as well.

    Good food, good price.
The quality slipped for a bit after Patrick's wife passed, but they seem to be making it up.
I almost always get the Magic Noodle and I'm never disappointed.

Yuck!  Why does this place have good reviews.  Was so excited to drive out of my way to get some good Thai food and was completely let down.  I ordered Pad Thai, Mcqueary Chicken, and a Pepsi.  Pad Thai was the worst I have every had.  Tasted like they use powdered Pad Thai mix, water, and fish sauce mixed with noodles.  The Chicken Mcqueary had flavor, but was more like cafeteria food than Thai food.  It is what I would expect from a school lunch or hospital food.  Do not get a fountain drink...it was straight up terrible.  I would never suggest this place to anyone who is looking for real "Thai food".

Great food. Good price. I missed their old location, but I am excited they came back to this location. Patrick is a stud.

Just had Thai express for the second time. Both times I have gotten the Salmon special in some coconut curry sauce and both times I have ordered out. It was delicious the first time, so much so that it beckoned me back. Unfortunately, it was absolutely atrocious the second time. Seriously, I think they were kind of fucking with me this latest time-its the only explanation as to why my salmon was so bad. It was definitively the toughest fish I have ever had any where. ANY WHERE. I threw half of it away because my fork wouldn't even go through it. Perhaps it was because it was so near the closing time that I got the shittiest salmon known to man.
My rice as a side was bland beyond belief and there was so much...tough white cabbage pieces. Bok Choy? I dunno... The only thing that saved the meal was that creamy, somewhat savory sauce. I know its probably way sweeter than the authentic version, but I don't care! I did enjoy that part. I want to like this place so bad too! Its quick, the workers are seemingly nice (don't speak their native tongue so I cannot give a comprehensive judgement on nicety) and the decor is delightfully, cheaply Thai (rundown building, openish kitchen, portraits of unknown-to-white-people princes? and princesses?, scribbled on large menu, diner style laminated wood "booths" and its relatively cheap pricing). Relatively, in this case refers to the quality of food you receive. Of course its a good deal when your food is good, but when it is bad? Not so much. Also, I didn't get a spring roll with my combo meal! Is that what the extra "+ $1" for that was vaguely hanging around on the white board sign? Should I have known that by some sort of insider-Jedi-mind trick? Usually the price differences relate to portion size?! Baahhhh!!!

Honestly, if I had written a review after the first time I ate here I probably would have given it four stars, but this meal was so bad that I can't let it pass. More and more I feel like if I get a bad meal, then the cooks have betrayed my trust. Granted they don't know that it was part of my last spare dollars for the next two weeks, and that I put my faith in them in an act of Lockean capitalism, but it shouldn't matter. Now, the question is, do I go back and try something else, or do I sit on my mistrust and unhappiness?

We'd never eaten here before so we went off the suggestions of a fellow reviewer. He suggested Masamaan curry and McQueary chicken. I ordered chicken and my boyfriend ordered the curry. Mine was alright. It wasnt bad by any means but I couldnt really pinpoint the flavor of the sauce. The pieces of chicken were all white meat and pretty tasty though. The clear sauce they give you to dip your wontons in is sweet and yummy!

The Masamaan soup was awesome! It was a sweet/savory curry with chicken, green beans, carrots and potatoes in it. It was spicy but not overpowering and it was so creamy.

Also, to top it off, there was a girl in there (an employee I'm assuming) that was playing a mini guitar and singing Christmas songs and some other "hits"... was really entertaining! :)

The owner's wife died...that's why the quality went down.

Big menu with loads of Chinese favorites.  Not what I was expecting but I guess it is a fast food place in the heartland so they need to appeal to people who are likely virgin to Thai cuisine.  I ordered red curry chicken to go.  Make sure to request jasmine rice if you don't want the default fried rice.  Service was quick and friendly.  Food was OK.  The sauce was a little thinner than what I'm used to and they weren't exactly generous with the chicken.  I'll return and try something else.

Walking into Thai Xpress, you will discover a massive, wall-mounted menu full of things like Curry, Fried Rice, and Cashew Chicken. This Chinese/Thai takeout restaurant offers a wide selection of items for every customer's craving. What I love the most is the plethora of vegetarian options, as you can substitute tofu for meat in almost every dish.

For the price of things, and the massive menu, Thai Xpress is becoming my new favorite takeout place. When I went to experience the drive-thru though, the drive thru was closed so we went inside only to discover they had no AC. I've been back since, only to discover they were closed for the day.

Beyond these minor hiccups, they have failed to disappoint in the category of quality food. As the owners used to run Thai House, I'm thrilled I can still get the Hawaiian Fried Rice here in Springfield.

I love Thai Express!  Pumpkin curry with tofu is my favorite Thai dish in town.  Yes, sometimes the rice is questionable.  But whatever.  Super cheap, super fast.

This might be the only drive thru Thai Restaurant in America...but maybe it's just a matter of time.  Took the family in on a Saturday night....brought a bottle of wine.  We were the only ones eating....got to meet the owners, who are absolutely terrific and very nice.  We ordered 4 dishes, Tom Yum soup, and some spring rolls.  My sister said the soup was the best she's ever tried (she lives in the Bay area).  Dishes were drunken noodles, eggplant basil, curry salmon, and one of the Chef Recommendations that had mostly beef - that was probably my favorite.  The food did come out extremely quick (less than 5 min), which is good and bad also depending on what you want.  I've been spoiled by living in NYC for the past 2 years, so nothing really was the best that I had, but everything was very enjoyable, especially given the price and speed of delivery.  My parents who teach at Missouri State both said they still prefer Thai Peppers.  I'd come back here if I'm ever back in Springfield but the only restaurant I miss when I leave Springfield will remain Mexican Villa.

Can you believe that they have a Drive Thru? Thai food at a cheap price & you don't even have to get out of your car! Most entrees $5-6 with a good portion size. Quick food preparation and very friendly service. Excellent Thai Iced Tea - best in the City ! Great vegetarian options they have tofu substitutions for every dish!

Insider Tip: Closing time is the best time to go if you are hungry - they serve up all items they have left to get rid of them and serve fresh next day!

ThaiXpress serves terrific, authentic Thai food... and it's quick too! The sign sort of looks like an auto shop (LubeXpress or TiresXpress), and the building is incredibly tiny, but neither of those artificial particulars affect what may very well be the best Thai food in Springfield. I'm a big curry fan, and their red curry is spectacular. I haven't asked them to make it spicy yet, but I think I will next time around. They just added crispy spring rolls to their menu, and I can attest to their deliciousness. And the best thing about ThaiXpress? THE PRICES! $5.95 gets you a good serving of rice and plenty of curry goodness.

They're not open on Sundays, which is a bummer, but other than that, ThaiXpress is GREAT!
