Thunder mountain is pretty awesome, kinda scary, but awesome. This is a good ol' boy country bar, and don't think it's anything else, 'cus it ain't.
It's located in the basement part of the building, so make sure to duck your head going down, due to the really low hanging ceilings. It really feels like your in a secret cowboy cave.
The first time I went there you could hear a pin drop as my boyfriend and I hit the last stair. Everyone had turned around and proceeded to stare at us until we got to the bar and ordered a miller/coors light and asked about a certain bar tender that we know used to work there. All of their expressions seemed to relax as If we had uttered some kind of password. The rest of our daylight beer (granted it felt like night, being underground) was had without a hitch. I can imagine if you go at night you might seem less like an outsider, but during the day time hours, it's like a private club.
The place itself gets 3 starts, not 4 due to the standoffish nature of the bartender.
Next time I'm out on Hwy 50 cowboy shoping, I'll be back again.
