Roaming around in Lake Country on a late Sunday afternoon after some time on Big Cedar Lake we were starving and tired. Timmer's was the recommended place closest to us, so we gave it a try. We were pleased by it's northern Wisconsin resort layout, and it's large patio looked full as we walked thru into the hostess station. No problem, we were about ready to eat off the floor if we had to, so as the main dining room looked 80% full, when we were told we could sit in the bar at a table (because we didn't have reservations) that was just fine. We were seated at a corner table, surrounded by windows---nice. As we read thru our menus time started to tick by, and it became apparent that we WEREN'T going to be waited on. I walked up to inquire with the bartender if we were to order the food thru him, or if we could expect a waitress. To say the bartender berated me would be a slight exaggeration, but lets just say he wasn't offering any  service to this customer. I was somewhat taken aback, and he had apparently been speaking at enough volume that my wife was looking at me aghast from our table. We promptly set our menus down, and walked out. I DID inform the 16 yr. old hostess (appeared to be the average age of MOST of the wait staff) about the unpleasantness, and that we wouldn't be dining with them, tonight or ever again. She had kind of a blank stare mouth open kind of look, and was saying something about the manager as the door was closing behind me.
Review Source:Waitress said it was her first night, so we were understanding.  Food was excellent (swordfish and walleye),  then we noticed, after finishing our food that other tables were offered soup or salad with  their we entree.  Also we were never received any bread.  Upon pointing this out to the busboy (busgirl?), another waitress came over and apologized and said our waitress was new.  Who puts a new waitress on an evening shift without proper training or supervision?  Comped us desert, but this is a bad reflection on the restaurant.
Review Source:This review is for Sunday Brunch. Â Limited selection of items, but what they had was good. Â Nothing out of the usual, just omelets, bacon, potatoes and some noodles and beef tips. No chicken or other meats. Â Great atmosphere though. Because of such a limited offering I would not make the drive out for the Brunch again.
Review Source:I've been to Timmer's before on several occasions. Â Always had a good experience... good food, service and atmosphere so when it came time for good friends to celebrate their marriage Timmer's seemed like the perfect location. Â When making the reservation the staff was very helpful and accommodating. Â They said they would have loved to put our party of 12 in a private room however there was a previous party booked. Â Our table was placed in a smaller more intimate room which was perfect. Â Tonight, everyone in the party loved their dinner and felt the Timmer's would be a place that they would love to return to. Â Thank you to everyone at Timmer's who helped my friends celebrate their wedding day! Â A perfect ending to a perfect day!
Review Source:I called all the way from California for a reservation, just to make positive that my sister, brother, and my son and myself would be assured a nice table for a mid-summer Sunday brunch when we visited
Wisconsin in mid July. Somehow, a rather large party from Illinois managed to arrive at the very same time, and with the same last name of Mayer! Needless to say, my reservation had been swallowed up by the other. No one in the staff flinched, and the place was packed to the rafters. Before you could say another word, we were ushered to a fine table in the main room, where we were waited on promptly and courteously. The young and attractive wait staff were energetic and more than eager to please. One very attractive blonde girl, who looked as if she could be swept off to New York and a very lucrative modeling career at any moment, took time to talk with our party and make us feel right at home. Oh yes, and the food... Well, it was delectable! We could not have had a more enjoyable Sunday midday feast. It became one of the highlights of my ten day visit to Wisconsin and my long overdue reunion with my family. How I wish we had a place like this to go to in Southern California. But alas, Timmers couldn't, be reproduced, even if Walt Disney himself were behind the project! My thanks go out to all the staff for our wonderful day there!
We recently hit up Timmers for a birthday dinner and it was delicious all around. We enjoyed a couple of pre-dinner cocktails (as we do), then were seated in a very warm and cozy dining room. The menu had a lot to offer and I'll admit I hemmed and hawed between a couple of dishes. Ultimately I decided on the half of de-boned duck with a cherry bourbon glaze on Himalayan red rice. The duck was crispy and big, I only finished a quarter of it (and felt quite virtuous for not devouring the whole thing). The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the cherry bourbon glaze. It was just too sweet for me, I would have prefered something tarter and more bourbon-y. I couldn't taste the bourbon at all really, and I'm a girl who loves her bourbon. Usually I'm not a fan of rice as a side because I tend to think it's overcooked and bland but the Himalayan red rice surprised me with it's nuttiness and flavor.
My boyfriend ordered their Scallop Lobster Mac and Cheese, and I did manage to sneak a bite of it and it was decidedly wonderful. It was creamy and was definitely had noticeable lobster and scallops in it.
This was my first time at timmers. We live about 30 mi away but I met one of the cooks and was encouraged to try it. We went on Friday I like fish frys. I had the perch fry, my wife steak sandwich and my daughter chicken cordon bleu panini.
We went early to avoid the crowds as I like a drink or two before, my wife does not. We where seated immediately, I noticed there were few tables in this dining area, but they have an outdoor seating area is well. Now the waiting started. Water was on the table and plenty of waitresses seemed to be walking around, however, approached our table. Two tables where seated after us and both where greeted before us. Finally  our waitress found time to greet us. I ordered a glass of wine and an appetizer, soft drinks for the others, soft drinks brought quickly a few minutes for the wine. App came in a reasonable time and was great, fried smoked mozzarella was great! We also placed our dinner order. Our server left and didn't come back for quite a few minutes so I went to the bar for another wine. Bartender greeted me and provided requested beverage quickly. Enough about the service, it sucked and wrecked what was otherwise a great experience. Bar staff was great as I continued to get my own drinks, our waitress never questioned this.
Now about the food. Wife had steak sandwich, tender and tasty with fantastic seasoned fries. Daughter chicken panini very good. I had perch fry, wasn't bad however price was a little high for the area $14 quantity was low, 3 small pieces, and potato pancakes sucked. Go with the cod! Also, after we placed our order, I overheard a different waitress explain a walleye special. I would have had this if I knew and it looked good when they brought it out.
So to sum up, food is great except the potato pancakes and I could have used more perch for what I paid for it. Have the fries! Atmosphere is cozy and friendly. Give Timmer's a try, but stop in the bar before sitting and bring a drink to the table with you.
I'm from/grew up in the area, but live in Milwaukee. I was around for the evening, visiting my dad. It was dinner time, so he was listing off some places that we could go to eat. I had such a hard time deciding because everywhere that he listed elicited a blah feeling, nothing that made my mouth water or my stomach rumble. So, I decided on this place because I don't remember ever having been there. I may have been when I was a child, but I'm not sure.
I heard that it had been renovated, however I can't say anything about it because I don't recall how it was before. However, it looks like a new building (kinda built to look older) surrounded by a bunch of really old buildings. My dad was giving me some background on the place and told me the the big concrete block (that is now a replica) that says Timmer on it when you pull up in the parking lot was for the horse drawn carriages to pull up next to it so that people could step down out of their carriages. I thought that was pretty interesting.
When I walked up, I saw a board through the window and the words "ribs." That got my mouth watering. I wanted ribs, but only if they were pork ribs. So, we followed the hostess to our table and sat down right next to the window and real wood fireplace. As I looked over the menu, I didn't see ribs. There was a little card apart from the menu that was sitting on the table with specials on it. Many of those things were quite appealing to me. But, I noticed at the top of the card that the specials went from Monday to Thursday. And when I asked about the ribs, same thing. BOOOOOO!!!!
So, I ordered the spinach artichoke dip for an app. It was delicious. Lots of artichokes, not so much spinach, I guess there could have been more, but it had a pretty rich/cheesy flavor. It was quite yummy. The waitress brought more bread without me having to ask because she said that there never seems to be enough bread. That was nice. For the meal, I ordered the beer battered perch with potato pancakes. There was a choice of beer battered or hand breaded, I didn't know which one to choose, so I asked the waitress and she said beer battered. I asked her if the potato pancakes were good and she said they were really good. When I got my plate the first thing that I noticed were two of the most beautiful potato pancakes I've ever seen. I was hoping that they tasted as good as they looked. I tired one and it was a small piece of heaven in my mouth. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the flavor was great too. I would have been happy eating just potato pancakes. I wasn't in the mood for fish, so I can't really say much about it. However, I suppose that for anybody who was in the mood for it, it would have been very good. Being the type of person that I am, no dinner is complete without dessert. As the waitress had been spot on with her recommendations, I asked her what I should get for dessert. She said that I should get the carrot cake. I never was a big fan of carrot cake, but I do love the cream cheese icing that usually accompanies it. So, I got the carrot cake. Surprisingly, I liked it, even the cake part. I've never had a waitress who was so willing to make recommendations and be so right about them.
My dad got the poor man's lobster. His ate everything on his plate, so I'm guessing that it was good.
The bill was about $51. Besides that food that I listed above, that includes a diet coke and an old fashioned. So, not too shabby. I'd go back.
The renovated restaurant has a very nice wooden interior which apparently kept much of the style of the original place torn down a couple year's ago. We ate in the attractive bar area on a Friday after golf, but it was too early for the fish fry. Fortunately, the luncheon menu had two fish entrees, beer-battered cod and baked cod. The waiter who was great offered fresh fruit skewers (he called it "chopped fruit" -- not good) in place of the fries. We would do this again. However, the dinner menu seems pricey to us, given the substantially lower prices at nearby upscale restaurants like the Little Red Inn and Fox and Hounds. We will probably not try dinner here.
Review Source:Had dinner with my wife and father in law on a Friday night. Fish fry was one of the best I have ever had anywhere. Flavorful, not greasy at all...just excellent. Everything is home made right down to the tarter sauce. Wife had filet mignon and raved...and she knows her steak. Wine list was surprisingly good, too. We shared a slice of their triple chocolate cake and along with their very good coffee it was a wonderful finish. We will be back, and I think we have a new favorite in the rotation.
Review Source:This restaurant has potential. Â Since the turnover in ownership and the remodeling it has gone from bad to above average. Â We have dined there 4 times since the remodeling. Â Overall our experience was good. Â Good food and friendly service. Â The dining room acoustics make it difficult to have a conversation. Â They need something to absorb some of the noise. Â The service was a slow and inexperienced. Â We hope this will improve with time. Â We ate there on both a Friday when it is more casual and a Saturday. Â The food was good both nights. Â The new facility is excellent.
Review Source:The Timmers that exists as of Spring, 2009 is entirely new from the ground up. No kidding. The Timmer family sold the property and is no longer involved. The new owner tore down the original resort over the winter of 2008/2009 and completely rebuilt it from the basement on up. The only remaining part of the old building is the original fieldstone fireplace that still occupies the main dining room. Amazingly, the new place looks almost exactly like the old place, at least cosmetically, but the interior is much more user friendly.
The menu is in transition but my wife has had the potato crusted sea bass on two occasions and just raved about it. I ordered a southwest style pork loin twice and twice it came out more done than I requested. So I moved on to a pasta dish in alfredo sauce and it was fantastic.
The service was prompt & professional. I particularly like that the bar is roomy, well staffed and well stocked. Most of West Bend's movers and shakers are in here so the wine menu reflects demanding tastes. For me, seeing a Guinness served at the correct temperature in a glass that hasn't been chilled makes my day.
I came here while visiting family. Â The fish fry was amazingly delicious and the service was good (after they figured out who was supposed to serve our table). Â They were very accomodating, moving us from outdoors to indoors after many in the party thought it was too cold. Â I ordered All-You-Can-Eat Cod but they were out of cod (oops). Â Instead they gave me All-You-Can-Eat Perch. Â Sweeeeet. Â But this place doesn't have the brightest staff. Â The table outside had these Christmas lights strung above each table. Â The lights at our table weren't working well but I fixed it easily while the staff had no clue what to do about it.
