Positives: Ordered the catfish with hushpuppies and slaw.  They were all very good! I'd definitely go back for their catfish and maybe use their drive through window for a to go order.

Negatives:  A fly kept buzzing around and landing on our table.  The chairs were uncomfortable and the place was too brightly lit for my tastes.  The waitress brought a glass of tea to our table with a bowl of lemon slices sitting in the top of the tea.

There was a party of 2  1.) Philly Cheese Steak & Onion Rings 2.) French Toast & Bacon.  The Philly Steak was over cooked (Brown, Crispy & dry) served on hot dog bun. Cheese was not even melted. Worst i have ever had. the onion rings were ok, hard to mess up frozen onion rings. / The french toast was like brown toasted egg, no flavor. The bacon was under cooked and limp. My dog enjoyed the bacon.  The coffee was fresh and hot.

The day started out with thunder, lightning and torrential downpours as my sis, aunt and I drove up to the Shiloh Battlefield. It all stopped once we got there and we walked/drove around for a few hours, our moods somber ,our hearts heavy upon viewing the site where so many people died for their 'cause'..

So it was with great anticipation that we left to find a good local restaurant
take our minds off such awful things. We drove through Savannah,Tenn. a town right on the Tennessee river and passed the Toll House which seemed empty. We didn't see anything else besides fast food joints so we returned. Glad we did.

Toll House is an unassuming place with worn plastic table cloths and a half-empty saladbar and lots of empty tables due to us having missed 'dinner' which I call 'lunch'. I was happy to see fried catfish on the menu although I was tempted to try the fried frog legs. But catfish it was along with fries and slaw. The three filets of catfish came to the table perfectly fried, not greasy and nary a bone was found. The fries and slaw were good too but nothing out of the ordinary. I even tried some of the smokey, salty ham which came in my aunt's stuffed potatoes. All in all, a satisfying meal.

Toll house is open 5 a.m. to 8 p.m Mon.-Sat. and from the looks of the breakfast menu, might be worth the early wake-up call. They ad some decadent home-made pies I had to pass on. And no, they don't have Toll House cookies. It's worth checking out if you're passing through this part of Tennessee.
