The restaurant itself was only about 1/4 full when I went with my parents, yet it took us over an hour just to get a couple sandwiches and some waffle fries. The prices are very fair and the food quality was what you'd expect for a pub. The service staff were very friendly but it was very frustrating when our server continuously forgot item after item we ordered.

It's a little confusing because it seemed like no one was there to serve us when we went through the entrance to the restaurant part. So we (my friend and I) went around and through the bar and was told to just go and take a seat. That somewhat put me off that no one was in the restaurant.

So we took our seats in the restaurant portion (so this review has nothing to do with the bar. Sorry!) and a server came to tend to us. I ordered a coffee, Cola and a steak sandwich and my friend had the chicken po'boy, a soda and tea. The drinks came out first and she was rather quick about it. And what felt like 5-10 minutes later the food came. Fast service! However I did go on a Tuesday night at about 5pm. There weren't any other customers in the restaurant. They also had a phone charger nearby one of the booths, so that came in handy!

The sandwiches were good. The caramalized onion straws in the po' boy were a bit sweet for me but I absolutely loved the chicken. The steak sandwich is served on garlic bread so an extra + for that!  The bill came to about $22 and change for the 2 of us. We weren't charged for our sodas! Whoops!

I'm officially OLD!  My days of going to Tommy's Place for drinks on a Friday or Saturday night are long gone.  Now my visits to Tommy's are for eating lunch outside on a nice day.....or maybe not anymore!

Got the cajun chicken sandwich.  Two pieces of grilled chicken in a dry rub cajun seasoning with slices of raw onion, tomato and no sauce.  Way toooooo dry and it left my mouth burning from the dry rub.  Won't ever be ordering that again.  The outside area needs a make-over.  The seats are getting dirty looking, the concrete is full of old gum and the fence needs a good painting.  I totally get that there are mobs of drunkards there every night, but still no excuse for having 2 empty but dirty ashtrays on the table when we arrived.  NASTY!

draft beer with some girls on a Friday night... no food, no mixed drinks. we hung out on the outside patio for hours talking and laughing. this place was MOBBED. the bouncer that checked our ID at the door was witty, the bartenders filled our drink orders super fast even though they were busy. i think the term "sausage party" came to mind upon entering the place because i was one of the very few females in the building. Tommy's place is kind of a beer drinkers bar. i like that. the bathroom is small, but relatively clean and nice. they have an ATM by the bar. there is plenty of seating. not quite sure i would ever come here with my kids but i would definitely return to have a few drinks with my friends.

Two Hilarious things...1) You can bet on horse racing here...amazing. 2) They have a Chinese food sandwich.

As for the gambling...this makes Tommy's place better than your average bar...we went to watch the Preakness there and had a blast. It's not everyday you can have a beer and bet on the races.

And there's the issue of the Chinese food sandwich...technically they call it something like e "Southern BBQ Chicken sandwich". Sounds tremendous right? Well it is...only problem is it tastes Nothing like southern BBQ...at all. Lol. It is and I kid you not...General Tsao Chicken on a sandwich. And that my friends is one of the funniest and best surprise sandwiches I've ever had.

Check this bar out...you'll leave confused and happy.

I have to clear up something Bill M. wrote about Tommy's not accepting credit cards. I went there on Saturday evening April 14 for dinner and asked the staff. They said credit cards may not be accepted if you're sitting at the bar running a drink tab but they definitely accept credit cards for meals at the tables which proved to be the case.  Any meals I've had there are typical bar food and are just OK. I ordered a shish kabob dinner where your choice was beef, shrimp or chicken or you could have one of each which is what I opted for. When a young kid who was not our waitress brought the plate I noticed there were what appeared to be 2 chicken and one shrimp. I asked him about it and he replied "I don't know, I didn't make it! " I mentioned it to the waitress and she was surprised at his response. They gave me a free beef. People standing at the bar seem to be having a good time so the atmosphere for that sort of evening is fine. If you're looking for  a relaxing lunch or dinner without great expectations Tommy's will work.

I am from this town, went to high school with the bartenders, my HS reunion (of Port Jeff HS) was here and this bar is....well look do you like the opinions, jokes, voices and attitudes of people from Long Island?

If you love the opinions of a 45 year old transportation supervisor from Lindenhurst or Miller Place paired with a 1945 19 year old girl who goes to Stony Brook or St Joe's or Suffolk (or goes to Mt. Sinai or Comsewogue) who will give opinions about Hunger Games or Twilight, make sure you are being here.

if not, you're really at an 8 right now and you need to take it down a notch. You're fucking pissing me off.

Yankees games, drinks, loud, long island, loud, colorful opinions, why are you even reviewing this if you are from another state? How did you get here? Did you take a plane just to come to Port Jefferson and see Tommy's Place?

it's a long island bar, if you like that, go.

Does not accept credit cards on Fridays and Saturdays, beware! Why a bar on a busy street in a popular downtown location wouldn't accept plastic, I don't know. But it made my group of friends spent about a QUARTER of what we would have. At least the one beer I had was cold.

Gross, I used to work there. The kitchen is barf-a-riffic. But, the underage drinking is top of the line!

I met up with some friends recently here and wasn't overly impressed. They only take cash on the weekends and seem to be overrun by guidos later into the night, and although there is ample seating you really can't seem to get away from them. They didn't have many beers on tap although their appetizers did look tasty. Given the other options in Port Jefferson, I'd probably meet up with friends here again, but only if it was because they were making the plans.

    Pub.

We wound up here one sunny afternoon during the oppressive heat wave mostly because we wanted to sit and have something to eat and catch our breath.

It turns out that this particular day the woman's world cup finals were on and the whole place was packed out - so we opted to sit outside.  It was hot but we managed to cool down after a while and enjoy a nice lunch.

Food was very good - we stuck with a bunch of seafood items and everything was perfect.  Drinks were cold and served in large glasses- so bully for us.

We managed to make our way inside after that, scored two seats at the bar and continued our revelry for quite some time - it is mostly a blur but a good time was had by all.

Parking stinks in the village- you have to grab a muni lot and the ones closest to town are usually jammed- so be prepared to do a little walking.

Tommy's is one of the hottest places to go in this one horse town.  The food is pretty good for bar grub.  The location is nice, right in the heart of Port Jefferson.  But the crowd is lame.

drinks are seriously overpriced and the crowd this place attracts is unintelligent at best

I don't go for the usual thu-sat night madness (it's a little too much madness for me), but happy hour is nice. Usually quiet during the week, lunch is pretty good. Happy hour there are half price drinks and appetizers, which is a wonderful thing. Huge fan of their potato soup (lots of cheese and bacon) and sweet potato fries. I've never had anything I didn't like there. Outside is nice, though it's right on the busiest parking lot in town. The food has always come out quickly for me, unlike some of the other places in town where I've tried to have an hour lunch and have either had to get my food to go and eat it quickly or I've just left. Tommy's is a dive, but it's the best dive in town.

    Sucked!!
Cant get any clearer than that. We went for lunch and we were seated at a table that felt like it was going to fall over because the floor was built on a steep incline. We got over it bc we were starving.  We ordered cordon blue bites. Took about 30 min to bring them out and they were frozen in the middle. We politely sent it back, asked for them just to be reheated. They brought out a new batch and they were even more frozen. Before we could change our appetizer order they were already putting our main course on the table. I ordered a MEDIUM RARE all american burger. I specified more than once... MEDIUM RARE. Well, lets say it was just shy of burnt and the cheese wasnt even melted... Not even slightly warm. I didnt even send it back because i wasnt in the mood for a new one with a spit shine. My boyfriend got the french dip. It was better than my burger but it was bland and boring. The sweet potato fries were decent. Last time we will ever eat there!!!!!!

Depending on what night of the week, tommys is well known for hosting makeshift high school reunions. When was the last time you saw that drug addict from HS? You know the one who knocked up his HS gf then bailed, still lives in his moms unfinished basement. He is at tommys with the rest of the losers u graduated with who never moved on...

This is the last place I'd go to watch a game. Prices are normal. The crowd is weak. This is the type of place you'll find your ex girlfriend from HS doing SHOTS!
Embarrassing...Personally I need to be tanked to even walk in the door.

Another down fall, do they even play music? Why the fuck not!?!?!

It gets 2 stars simply bc it sells alcohol, similar to getting 400 pts on ur SATs for filling out ur name...

This is always a stop for me during my Port Jeff bar hopping sessions.

Fun bar that's always filled (but not overcrowded) with good looking people (albeit a bit fratty) in their mid to late 20s who are looking to meet other good looking people in their mid to late 20s.

They have a nice outdoor seating area where you can bring your drink to talk with friends or strangers. Drink prices are reasonable-- $9 for a screwdriver (might sound expensive) but it comes in a PINT glass. Yay!

Can we say college bar for college kids or adults who like to pretend they are still at their prime?

Overcrowded and very noisy people who pay way too much for their drinks.  You will find a range of people here but come on a Friday and Saturday night and it is mostly college kids trying to pick up other college kids.

I feel like I went to these kinds of bars when I was a Freshmen in College and now I am ready for something a little more... mature.

I don't understand why this place is so popular.  The drinks are a total rip off.  If you get a mixed drink like a Jagerbomb or any other like drink, it will run you about $9!   On the weekends it is packed and you cannot even have a place to stand, let alone sitting down.  I mean I guess it is ok but not anything good that I would recommend.   What the previous reviewer (elisa k. ) mentions as the clientele is roughly accurate, but I consider it a mixed crowd and not necessarily bad.   Creepy old guys is a bit of an overstatement, and if you say cougars, well they are "creepy" too.   A typical mixed bar crowd I would say trending towards the younger folk.

If you go during football, miller lite is $5 a pitcher, but it is nasty and you can get regular beer at taras for $6 a pitcher 7 days a week right up the road.

The crowd here is absolutely hilarious: college kids, creepy middle-aged dudes, cougars, large groups of chicks parading around in their tightest tube tops...need I say more? Some decent beers on tap (Stella, Brooklyn Summer) though hard to really enjoy a drink here when both the bar and the patio are overflowing with the aforementioned characters. Our experience here was heightened by the presence of an old school "rocker" belting out Britney Spears and 80s tunes on an acoustic guitar!

Happy hour's the bomb here, friendly bartenders, 1/2 price apps and cheap beer.  Stay in the bar though, as the table service sux and the outdoor area has as much ambiance as behind your local supermarket.  Currently has Brooklyn Pumpkin on tap, and they don't ruin it by rimming the glass with Cinnamon sugar.  Stop by between 3 and 5 during the week and you might meet "the kid" (aka me).  Stop by after five and expect to talk to local joes who will talk about their "old ladies" and tell off-color jokes at which you will nod your head and feign laughter.  A friend of mine refers to this kind of vibe as an "electric" scene, which is secret code for "uncomfortable."  Stick with the day shift and you won't be shocked by all the "electricity."

I've gone here in the daytime for lunch (not amazing) and many times at night for drinks. I like that it isn't overly crowded but is still popular. There is enough space that you can spread out, especially in the back room/outside on the patio when it is warm. The location is ideal since it is right by the water and near the best parking areas. If you get bored here just move on to the many other bars down the street!
