Tom's Original Fried Pies

This place is delicious.  They use real ingredients, not premade canned fillings.  Make everything in house daily.  Savory and sweet pies.  Never greasy at all, you'd hardly know they were fried. I like the Roagie, it's a filling based on the traditional pirogue.

really fun and off the beaten path.  Tom was interesting and we visited while waiting for our pies.  I got the Roagie (yum!) and coconut cream.  major score for our road trip rule of no chain restaurants!!!

Tom's is a dive with made-to-order fried pies with fillings for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert. You can get a fresh flaky crust wrapped around scrambled eggs/sausage, or a Pizza Pie (like a fresh Hot-Pocket or something), Taco/Southwest, or fruit or creme filled dessert pies (blackberry, lemon, cherry, apple, peach, vanilla/banana creme), etc... They have a pretty broad list of options. They come in a small & quite large. Better to get several small ones to try different ones. Don't go if your on a diet, & it will take a few mintues since they make them fresh for you, but they're pretty cool, & worth the trip to South Jackson, just off the McDowell Road exit. They also have a drive thru. Feels like an old donut shop of a dive inside.
