This is a grungy dive bar...and not the cool hipster kind. It's populated by older townies who play Korn on the juke box. There's a sketchy back alley smoking area that I don't recommend using.
The thing that grinds my gears about bars like this is that they somehow get off charging $6 for a Bud Light. If I go to a dive bar I expect cheap drinks, because being a dive bar there is low overhead with the owner not putting a whole lot of money back into the bar...yet at Towne Tavern you have the pleasure of meeting the scum of the Earth AND paying a premium price for beer.
Yes a local tavern. Not a dump! It is old and well used but it has character and charm. Older pinball machine, a bowling/video game, trivia game machine on the bar and four large flat screen televisions gives this place an extra star. Food is cooked right behind the bar on a gas grill, inexpensive burgers (very good ones), hot dogs, and a few other grilled items complete a simple menu. The bartender (I think her name is Emma) on Saturday nights makes a good stiff drink, locals fill the place on weekend nights. The day crowd are mostly older middle age retired guys and their wives, late night are early twenties and older wanna be hipster type fellows. Never experienced a drug deal in the bathroom or in the parking lot. Yes the trough in the mens room is there, clean and practical and used in lots of establishments throughout the country. Like I said, the place is old but it is worth a visit for people who like a little character in their drinking watering holes. People are friendly at the Towne Tavern and if you start the conversation someone will buy you a drink,....or two!!!
