You can't go wrong at the Train Wreck. Good food, good beer, good vibes. Go for breakfast and get the chicken and waffles, trust me, even if it sounds weird for breakfast just order it!
I've also had their burgers, crab cakes, and omelets. All fantastic and worth the wait. Gosh, just writing this review makes me crave some chicken and waffles right now!
I love the Train Wreck, especially on Mondays (Margaritas / Tacos) and Wednesdays (Sushi).
The tacos are great! They serve street tacos with one or two small corn tortillas (strangely inconsistent from week to week). You can't go wrong with any of their tacos selections. I've tried them all, and always enjoyed them.
The chicken tacos are especially good, and spicy.
A lot of people seem to like the sweet potato fries at the Train Wreck, and I can't imagine why. This is one of the two areas of the Train Wreck that prevents it from getting 5 stars from me. I've had the sweet potato fries three different times - they have never been crisp. I even asked after the third time, and the waitress said, "That's how they always are." Good to know. I don't need to order limp, soft sweet potato fries there any more.
The other thing that bugs me is when you do order tacos, they come with cilantro and onions. "What's wrong with that?" you may ask. Nothing, except that the cilantro hasn't been removed from the stems. They literally lay a couple five or six-inch cilantro stems on top of your tacos. I guess they expect that we enjoy pulling the cilantro leaves off the stem before eating.
Other than that, the Train Wreck rocks!! The service has always been spectacular. I went in recently and my server - Christy - did a fabulous job even though I wasn't really drinking, racking up a big tab. Just enjoying some great tacos (after I prepped my own cilantro stems, thank you).
Avoid the sweet potato fries and get there early - the place is always busy.
Note: Always check Yelp's 'Filtered Reviews.' One of the businesses I reviewed has a 1-star rating with only 1 review, but there are 5 'filtered' (hidden) reviews averaging 4.8 stars!
Ridiculously good food, horrible service! (it doesn't matter, you'll come back anyway!)
I previously thought there was no such thing as good food in Burlington (I don't do chains) until I discovered the Train Wreck.
Must try the sweet potato fries!
Great Gluten-Free options too!
Service is consistently disappointing yet they know what you drink when you walk in the door. You'll certainly find yourself craving their food. Must-see.
We came in one day all mudded up after riding Galbraith, and we were welcomed with live music, and they even let us put our bikes in the back!
Needed a place to eat after hiking with friends, and came upon the trainwreck. Good selection of local beers, decent mixed drinks.
The calamari was incredibly bland-absolutely no flavor whatsoever, and not worth even half of what they charge. The aioli it was served with was delicious, but there wasn't nearly enough to adequately dunk the flavorless calamari in.
Sweet potato fries were excellent.
Burgers were moderately good, but nothing exciting- the "Blue" burger came with hardly any blue cheese, and I had to take apart the whole thing to make sure there was any on there to begin with. Crab cakes were pretty small, though the coconut prawns were a good size.
The service was excellent-our server was friendly, attentive, and the couple problems we had she fixed quickly. All in all, a decent place to stop for a drink, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.
Went tonight for my birthday dinner, we had burgers, both were fabulous!! One with sweet potato fries, the other onion rings. Service was quick and friendly. We had soda and great iced tea, kept being refilled, a big plus!! We will be stopping in again for lunch when we head south again. Added bonus, the place really rocks when the train goes by!!
Review Source:Went here for lunch...(for the second time)...amazing!!!! We are from across the line and this place is worth the drive down!!! Ive eaten at a lot of pubs in my time and this place is on my top 5 favourite pub!  Even if your plans aren't  to go shopping at the outlets...its worth the drive just to come here!! The food is soooo good! Homemade good pub food...not all that pre made and frozen crap!! The buns for the burgers and sandwiches are even made there from scratch and he uses local suppliers...which is just another wicked plus!
We had the oyster shooters....super fresh!!! AND local!!
We also had the pleasure of sharing pub stories with the owner Nick...who is a, SUPER cool dude!!!...young guy with a big dream and a good attitude! This place is a home run!!
Went here for breakfast the other day, and had the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were toasted, and they were so much better this way! The potatoes were flavorful and had just enough spice. I really loved the meal, and the service was great.
But, they dropped my wife's side of bacon on the way to the table, so she had to wait for another five minutes while she ate her pancakes. "The bacon kamikazeed right off the plate!" exclaimed the waitress. So, they comped it, which I thought was very generous.
The coffee? Not so good.
Will definitely eat breakfast here in the future.
The menu here is definitely the most creative one I have seen within a hundred mile radius. We have been here twice now, and everything we had was amazing (fried cheese curds with tomato jam, cod bahn mi, calamari appetizer with garlic aoli, cashew chicken salad). The oyster shooters are probably the best I've ever had. The cocktail sauce is amazing!! Our server both times, Veronica was lovely and friendly and conversational. We will definitely be regulars here! They have a great happy hour too, and the place is always packed and lively.
Review Source:I loved Train Wreck! Locally grown, zero GMO food, huge hamburger menu that can be substituted with salmon (not a salmon patty, but a thick slab of grilled salmon. I got the Thai burger with salmon on a sour dough roll with a couple of slices of cucumber, slivered carrot and a little sweet red pepper in a modestly used Thai sauce. Spicy sweet but not hot. I opted for the yummy, colorful side salad, which took up half of my large plate. A lean and hearty choice, I'm definitely going back!
Review Source:Food: decent, definitely very large portions (I got a Caribbean sandwich). I wish the sweet potato fries were cut more thinly. I felt like I was just picking up a yam.
Service: awesome, super attentive servers
Setting: I went on a Tuesday night past HH time and it was fairly empty, which I liked. It felt like a casual meetup place. I sat at the bar and watched the Olympics and had a pretty good time, as I was just passing through.
All in all, I think this is a great place for locals and travellers alike if you're already in Mt Vernon, looking for somewhere to go
To start, I must disclaimer that I do not drink, so this review is all about the food.
After a couple of hours of half a** climbing, Jim and I found the Train Wreck for some nutritional (and alcoholic) sustenance. The bar is fun, down to earth without being too divey, and full of people enjoying their various drinks... and I was a bit excited because yelp told me that the food is pretty good too. We settled in to a booth made out of giant timber logs, with a plank top embedded with granite, which is totally rad, but that's kinda where the rad stopped for me. Â
I had the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, and it was really really mediocre. The sandwich is seasoned with clashing flavors, and left a weird after-taste in my mouth. The sweet potato fries were soggy and tasteless. Granted, sweet potatoes are quite difficult to get right as fries due to its moisture content, but just the week prior I had the most amazing sweet potato fries in Skaha, and I've had way better sweet potato fries at the local Red Robins. Seriously, if you can't do better than Red Robins, you better have another think about whether you should be serving food.
The calamari which came highly recommended by the waitress is also less than memorable. All around a 2 star food experience. An extra star for the ambiance, and the waitress paying special attention to Jim despite being busy.
Probably wouldn't go back, nor would I recommend you going there for food... drinks on the other hand... probably pretty good, you'll have to rely on someone else for that review.
For our dinner to finish our trip up here, we head to this hole in the wall, not, in, the, wall.
Packed house for dinner and just missed HH, but that's no big. We pull up at the 2 open spots at the end of the bar by the wall. Our bartender is working her toosh off: "Oh, just a little busy," she says. lol...
-Just another night, as they say-
The other lady just as busy. We finally order beers then wait some more for the food. Service was slow but that's a busy given, and our lady still managed a friendly persona.
For grub:
-BBQ Beef Brisket sandwich (co-worker)
-Caribbean Chicken Sandwich (me) with half 'n half fries (reg and sweet potato)
The Brisket was a winner, I was told. My sandwich was awesome! Very decent chicken spiced(?) flavors, with the onions, the cilantro and that baguette(?) bread. Good stuff. The sweet potato fries were great and that "mango mojo" sauce accompanied was interesting.
And for the first time up here, I believe I also heard my first train fly-by... how fitting, haha.
Food: Â Good
Service: Â Great
Environment: Â Friendly with good music selection, Local and Relaxing (Interesting decor and love the big tree tables and benches)
This looked like a local friendly meeting place. Â At 11ish am, every local table has at least a drink on the table.
I liked the pastry they served before the meal. Â The jalapeno bread and banana bread were good.
This is only my first visit, I cannot say I am a fan yet but pretty close.
We stopped by here for lunch on our way to the Tulip Festival (which was notably bereft of tulips) and weren't disappointed. First of all, we came on a Saturday at about 12:30 and they were offering $1 beers. As in, any beer on draft. I got the Boundary Bay IPA which was pretty good, but honestly it could have been a frothy mix of PBR, Schlitz and Beast and I would have gotten it at that price.
The cod banh mi is justifiably a star. The baguettes they use are really, really good. But they've taken two Seattle staples and made it taste delicious. It was a really big sandwich and I could not tackle it, to my enduring shame.
Wifey got the fried oyster grinder and loved it as well. Personally, I felt the oysters were over-fried, but it was at least a 3-star sandwich.
The fries were the big disappointment. Being the suckers for sweet potatoes that we are, we upgraded for $1 each, but they were just limp. I'm not sure how you can fail to fry a fry, but they managed.
Wow! Small town place with excellent food. The fish n chips had the best pub style breading I have had in a long time. The Skagit mushroom burger was a very good char broiled burger with lots of flavor. Â Â Â
Service was very good for a semi small pub restaurant. Rumor is they get very busy for dinners and weekend breakfast.
I said I'd go back... and I'm so glad I did!
Grilled Chicken BLTA, yummariffic. Grilled Thai Cod Banh Mi, perfection! Â Tried the regular house fries this time and I have to agree with other reviews, they're terrific and the house-made ketchup is excellent.
Great service again. Â Wasn't so busy at 11:30 when we showed up for our weekday lunch, but it filled up by the time we left. Â What's nice is the big range of folk here... Ladies who Lunch, local workers in their neon orange jackets and hardhats, sophisticates and cutesy couples. Â The only pre-req for this bar is to be hungry and looking for a great meal.
I'm shipwrecked in Burlington WA for a two week trial; decent place, not home. Â Thank G for Train Wreck. Â This place is the bidness, from its matte black exterior, its friendly/funny waitstaff, to its massive flintstone type tables in the back. Â The food is great--charred salmon ceaser, hummus plate, trainwreck burgers--I could go on and on. Â The customers seem like mostly locals, but didn't give a bunch of lawyers in suits a hard time for infringing on their spot. Â If this place was closer to home, I'd ask to move in.
Also, it's one block away from a shop named "Marty's Paints." Â Except, the p in paint is a paint roller, so it actually reads, "Marty's Taints." Â Brilliant.
I had high hopes after reading the reviews.
The food was good, but not great. I tried the cheese steak, fries, onion rings and had a bite of my girlfriends burger. Some of the onion rings (about 25% of them) had too many rings in them so were undercooked. The properly cooked onion rings were great. The cheese steak was good, but not great. The burger had ham and egg, the ham was cut too thick so it tasted more like a ham sandwich.
The service was not good. We didn't get a thank you, hello, etc. Unfortunately, I wouldn't go back...
Thank you, fellow yelpers, for finding this gem for me! Â I've been here twice since I moved to town at the beginning of the year. Â The food is excellent - it's bar food done with really high-quality ingredients. Â Their use of local purveyors is also a big plus for me. Â The crab cake sandwich had a perfect ratio of crab to bread and was not at all greasy. Â I didn't get a bite of my boyfriend's bahn mi, but he said "I can't even describe how good this sandwich is." Â The fried cheese curds are so light, flavorful and greaseless that you forget they're fried (until you try to put on your jeans). Â
The service here is also top-notch. Â The first time we went was in the middle of the day and it was very quiet. Â Our waitress was so helpful with her recommendations and suggestions. Â Our second visit was during a busier dinner hour, and our waitress this time was just as nice - she even came running out in the freezing cold with my purse when I forgot it.
If you're like me and diet Pepsi is in no way an acceptable substitute for diet Coke, you will be disappointed. Â But it's a great excuse to have a beer!
Train Wreck rounded out an awesome three days of eatingfest.
Service is friendly, beautiful solid wood tables, and some of the best casual dining food I've ever had.
Delicious mini burger sliders with thick crispy bacon and pepperjack. Fresh, large sized oysters/shooters from Blau Oyster (get a dozen. trust me), tasty grilled fish tacos (need a little salt  + lime on the salsa).
Bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos are good but I wish they'd cut them in half while grilling. There's too much cheese to get warm inside of a big ass whole jalapeno.
The pulled pork sliders were good, but nothing to go HAM about.
Highly recommend you stop in Burlington for gas and eat at the Train Wreck.
We stopped by the Train Wreck on our way up to Bellingham. Â I was pleasantly surprised by the casual and clean atmosphere, esthetically appealing exposed brick and retro lighting. Â Local ingredients and a great breakfast menu-you will not be disappointed. Â I had the pulled pork and yam hash. Â Too much really for me to eat, but I tried my best anyway. Â
Cute, casual, great service, plus cool tunes- someone there is a fan of  Pearl Jam and  Nirvana!  We'll stop by again next time we're on the road Northbound.
We were driving from Vancouver, BC to Seattle and were getting hungry so we pulled up Yelp on our phones while getting gas and settled on Train Wreck--the reviews and ratings did it for us.
Oh man, talk about burger heaven! Finding a place to park was a bit tough, even on a Wednesday night, but so worth it once we got in. The service was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable both about the menu and bar offerings, and very attentive. The food was delicious, two of us had burgers (the Train Wreck and the BBQ) and the other had the tacos and we were all extremely satisfied with the food.
While I'm an east coaster and don't find my way out there too often, I would certainly return--and definitely suggest this place to others passing through. It is a "local joint" but super welcoming.
Didn't think Burlington had a night life? Well think again this place was a really good time with really good beer and a really fun live band.
I don't know that they have live music every night but the band that was there on this night was particularly fun. People were dancing the bar was packed out too standing room only but I would have opted to stand if I had just walked in the vibe is just all around fun. And the Waitress's are super nice. I ordered one beer ended up with 3 because they liked me.
good lunches and fast service.
I had a yummy hummus sandwich. I will say I was actually surprised they had hummus on the menu.
I know this will sound a bit rude - but I lived the area for 20+ years and I will say the valley is not know for any veggies options..
Next time I am in town visiting I will come here again.
