My husband and I decided to try Trattoria Longo on a Friday night. Â The place was full, but we were seated immediately. Â Firstly, the bar and the dining room are one and thusly, it was overly loud in the room. Â This does not make a good setting for a quiet dinner. Â
We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and were quite disappointed. Â The portion was very small and the calamari rings were bland and mushy. Â We also ordered the antipasta (which is incorrectly spelled on the menu - it should be antipasto...my husband was born and raised in Italy, so he tends to be picky about these things. Â But if you are going to call yourself an Italian restaurant, well...it's important). Â The serving size was also quite small.
I ordered the special of the day, Seafood Fra Diavolo.  This meal was a profound disappointment.  It was supposed to have shrimp and scallops, however there was nary a scallop on my plate and five smallish shrimp.  The sauce didn't have even a hint of spice - it was the blandest pasta sauce I have  ever had.  I've had tastier meals pouring Ragu out of a jar.  How in the world they could call this "Fra Diavolo" defies any explanation. Â
My husband ordered another special, Pappardelle Bolognese...again bland, but at least edible. Â It was overpriced at $19. Â
If you like your food bland and tasteless, this is the place for you. Â Otherwise, choose one of the other eating establishments in Westerly. Â This place is not worth the money or the time.
