It's impossible for me not to make comparisons. (There are times when only a double negative will do. There ain't no two ways about it.)
I would have given the Pie I had here today 4 to 5 stars. It was a very good Pizza. I had the Lunch size Black Knight; Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushrooms and Black Olives. The NY style Crust was perfect and the toppings, Cheese and Sauce were liberally applied.
It tapped my wallet at the rate of $7.99. And therein lies the rub. I can get an almost identical Pizza at Michelangelo's in Salem for $4.29 on their three topping lunch deal any weekday.
The counter person at Ugo's gave a good level of order-at-the-counter service. The usual Parmesan Cheese was available at the condiment bar. A nice not-so-common touch was Tapatio Sauce which kicked my lunch up a notch.
The place was clean but beginning to show its age.
Will I come again? Sure.
As Pizza go's I like to think I know my stuff. I love Pizza. Love it. That being said I have had Pizza all over this nation and around the world.
There is something different about Ugos Pizza. They aren't lying when they say they use top quality ingredients, its grade a stuff. Fresh dough, fresh vegetables and meat choices. The sauce is not the typical generic tomato paste you find on most Pizzas these days. Something about the crust makes it crispy, all the time, in the right places.
Every time I am in Stayton I eat here, and only here. The staff is friendly and inviting and the place is always clean. The owner is often there, in the back, putting in work along side his employees. He is friendly and genuine. After talking with him it is obvious he takes this business seriously and cares about the quality of his product.
If you are anywhere near Stayton or within delivery range, I would suggest you give them a shot, you won't be disappointed!
If you are hungry give the Tummy Thumper a shot, trust me you won't be disappointed!
The employees here have always been incredibly nice to me. Some even have a chat with me while I'm waiting for my pizza to be done cooking.
Most importantly though, their pizza is outstanding. One of the two places in the area I highly recommend you get your pizza from. When you take a bite of any kind, you can taste the freshness of the ingredients they use and the sauce is just right.
Ugo's is known for having the occasional birthday or graduation party so if you don't like big noisy crowds while you feast, I would suggest you avoid this place on weekends (unless you do take-out or delivery of course).
If you like thin, crispy crust style pizza then you should like Ugo's. Â Personally I prefer a more doughy thick crust. Â The pizza was good overall and the service was fine too. Â Plenty of seating and I've never seen it overly crowded. Â I go here when I don't feel like cooking a take and bake. Â Try it! Â You might like it!
